Varietal Difference of Protein Content and Amino Acid Composition in Sesame (참깨품종의 단백질함량과 아미노산 조성)

  • To obtain the basic information an seed quality improvement in sesame, protein content of 114 varieties and amino acid composition of 12 varieties was analyzed. Protein content showed the vaietal difference ranged 20.6-30.2% and the mean was 24.72%. The highest variety in protein content was PI158066 (30.2%) originated from U.S.A. Protein content of Korean local varieties were highest among original group analyzed. Seed coat texture and seed coat color affected to protein content so, smooth type was higher than rough type in protein content, and black seeded varieties showed the hight protein content. Amino-acid composition of sesame was uneque in balance and higher than FAO reference. Total amino-acid of variety PI258372 was highest as 25.03%. Essential amino-acid (EAA) /total amino-acid(TAA) ratio of sesame was higher as 42-58.2% than soybean, corn, rice, peanut. Korean local variet 'Samcheck' showed best quality in amino-acid composition as 58.2% in EAA/TAA ratio with high tyrocin and lysine. Total amino acid content was high in order of Korean local '||'&'||'gt; introduced '||'&'||'gt; Korean bred varieties.

Landslide Susceptibility Mapping and Verification Using the GIS and Bayesian Probability Model in Boun (지리정보시스템(GIS) 및 베이지안 확률 기법을 이용한 보은지역의 산사태 취약성도 작성 및 검증)

  • The purpose of this study is to reveal spatial relationships between landslide and geospatial data set, to map the landslide susceptibility using the relationship and to verify the landslide susceptibility using the landslide occurrence data in Boun area in 1998. Landslide locations were detected from aerial photography and field survey, and then topography, soil, forest, and land cover data set were constructed as a spatial database using GIS. Various spatial parameters were used as the landslide occurrence factors. They are slope, aspect, curvature and type of topography, texture, material, drainage and effective thickness of soil. type, age, diameter and density of wood, lithology, distance from lineament and land cover. To calculate the relationship between landslides and geospatial database, Bayesian probability methods, weight of evidence. were applied and the contrast value that is >$W^{+}$->$W^{-}$ were calculated. The landslide susceptibility index was calculated by summation of the contrast value and the landslide susceptibility maps were generated using the index. The landslide susceptibility map can be used to reduce associated hazards, and to plan land cover and construction.

Changes of Vitamin C and Chlorophyll Contents in Oi-Kimchi with Storage time (저장기간에 따른 오이김치의 비타민 C 및 클로로필 함량변화)

  • This study was carried out to examine the changes of pH, chlorophyll, chlorophyll patterns and ascorbic acid contents, and sensory evaluation in Oi-Kimhi by the different periods of storage. The contents of chlorophyll a and b were 52.2% and 14.44% at storage 0 days, 20.67% and 16.99% at storage 11 days,0% at storage 14 days, and decreased with storage times increased. But, phephorbide a and b were increased with storage times increased until storage 11 days, and were 28.44% and 1.25% at storage 0 days,42.63% and 15.79% at storage 11 days,0% at storage 12, 14 days. The contents of ascorbic acid were increased until storage 4 days, but afterwards were decreased with storage times increased, and were 2.57mg% at storage 0 days, 5.49mg% and 2.95mg% at storage 11 days, 0% at storage 14 days. Sensory evaluations of appearance, flavor, taste, texture, overall acceptability showed the highest at storage 8 days, and disliked after storage 10 days.

A Survey on the Occurrence of Barley Stripe Disease in Yoengnam Area (영남지방의 보리 줄무늬병 발생실태에 관한 조사연구)

  • The survey on the occurrence and distribution of barley stripe disease was conducted in the farmer's field of 19 gun (county) throughout Yeongmm area in May of 1982, in order to obtain a basic information on the breeding of resistant varieties, and for control of the disease. The percent of infected culms of barley stripe disease in Gyeongnam province (Southern Yeongnam) was higher $(13.7\%)$ them in Gyeong-bug $(6.9\%)$, northern Yeongnam, and especially, Ham-an, Milyang, Eui-chang and Weol-seong were severly occurred. The cultivar of Millyang 6 was slightly infected while the cultivars Olbori and Oweolbori were severely infected by the disease. Among soil conditions, the barley plant grown in the loam, clay and clay loam texture which have more availble moisture, and that of the plant cultivated in the poorly drained soils were shown to have severe infection. The barley plant grown in the soils in local valley $(18.8\%)$ where is frequently over saturated with water showed the more infection the barley plant grown in plains $(9.5\%)$. Generally, the poorer the soil drainage the more severeinfection occurred. Among cultivation conditions, the earlier the sowing dates of the barley, the less the percent of infected culms was observed. The heavier or lighter application of N fertilizer than the optimum to barley plant seemed to cause more infection.

  • Soil structure and organic matter have been known to strongly affect water flow and solute transport, yet little information is available concerning soil hydraulic properties related to soil physical and chemical properties in the forest site. The purpose of this study was to quantify the spatial variability and spatial correlation of the measured parameter values from the plots established with the rainfall simulator on Japanese larch(Larix leptolepis) dominated site in Kwangju. Kyunggi-Do. Measurement of soil water flux and retention were made with the inherent soil texture, soil structure, and organic matter. The method was based on the observation that when water was applied at a constant rate to the soil surface on each plot. The method was simple to apply and consists of following steps: (i) Wet the soil from a rainfall simulator with several known discharge rates on a relatively leveled soil surface with and without organic matter. (ii) Once the borders of the ponded zone were steady, saturated hydraulic conductivity( $K_{s}$) and the matric flux function(F) was evaluated from a regression of flux vs. the reciprocal of the ponded area. A conductivity of the form $K_{i+}$$_1$ $_{c}$= $K_{i}$( $_{c}$) [1-d /dz] where flux continuity implies. For this, continuity of matric potential at the interface at all times are as follows: $_1$( $Z_{c}$) = $_2$( $Z_{c}$) = $_{c}$ for steady state intake from water ponded on the soil surface. Results of this investigation showed the importance of understanding spatial variability in wide differences of water retention and saturated hydraulic conductivity with respect to pore geometry and organic matter contents which influenced the water flux throughout the soil profile.l profile.ile.

Welfare Interface using Multiple Facial Features Tracking (다중 얼굴 특징 추적을 이용한 복지형 인터페이스)

  • We propose a welfare interface using multiple fecial features tracking, which can efficiently implement various mouse operations. The proposed system consist of five modules: face detection, eye detection, mouth detection, facial feature tracking, and mouse control. The facial region is first obtained using skin-color model and connected-component analysis(CCs). Thereafter the eye regions are localized using neutral network(NN)-based texture classifier that discriminates the facial region into eye class and non-eye class, and then mouth region is localized using edge detector. Once eye and mouth regions are localized they are continuously and correctly tracking by mean-shift algorithm and template matching, respectively. Based on the tracking results, mouse operations such as movement or click are implemented. To assess the validity of the proposed system, it was applied to the interface system for web browser and was tested on a group of 25 users. The results show that our system have the accuracy of 99% and process more than 21 frame/sec on PC for the $320{\times}240$ size input image, as such it can supply a user-friendly and convenient access to a computer in real-time operation.

  • This paper proposes a grade prediction method to measure meat quality in Hanwoo (Korean Native Cattle) using classification and feature extraction algorithms. The applied classification algorithm is an AdaBoost and the texture features of the given ultrasound images are extracted using SFTA. In this paper, as an initial phase, we selected ultrasound images of Hanwoo for verifying experimental results; however, we ultimately aimed to develop a diagnostic decision support system for human body scan using ultrasound images. The advantages of using ultrasound images of Hanwoo are: accurate grade prediction without butchery, optimizing shipping and feeding schedule and economic benefits. Researches on grade prediction using biometric data such as ultrasound images have been studied in countries like USA, Japan, and Korea. Studies have been based on accurate prediction method of different images obtained from different machines. However, the prediction accuracy is low. Therefore, we proposed a prediction method of meat quality. From the experimental results compared with that of the real grades, the experimental results demonstrated that the proposed method is superior to the other methods.

Detection of Suitable Sites for Effective Cultivation of Morus alba L. (뽕나무의 효과적 재배를 위한 적지 탐색)

  • This study was conducted to scientifically analyze on the trends of cultivation area and production, and to detect the suitable site for Morus alba cultivation in forest of Buan-gun for effective cultivation. During last 3 years, the cultivation area of M. alba has steadily been increased, and the mulberry production of Jeollabuk-do has been researched as the greatest in Korea. Especially Buan-gun has the largest cultivation area of M. alba. On the other hand, as the result of detecting the suitable site for M. alba cultivation by factors of altitude, aspect, slope, soil texture, and organism content using GIS, there was the 663 ha suitable site of the total of 16,608 ha. In this area, Byeonsan-myeon, Sangseo-myeon, and Jinseo-myeon were included with the largest area, therefore, it was considered that these were the favorable regions for the expansion of M. alba cultivation area. The result of this study would be expected to be used as the effective information when establishing the expansion plan for M. alba cultivation area focused on the forest of Buan-gun in the future.

  • Remote sensing technique has offered better understanding of our environment for the decades by providing useful level of information on the landcover. In many applications using the remotely sensed data, digital image processing methodology has been usefully employed to characterize the features in the data and develop the models. Random field models, especially Markov Random Field (MRF) models exploiting spatial relationships, are successfully utilized in many problems such as texture modeling, region labeling and so on. Usually, remotely sensed imagery are very large in nature and the data increase greatly in the problem requiring temporal data over time period. The time required to process increasing larger images is not linear. In this study, the methodology to reduce the computational cost is investigated in the utilization of the Markov Random Field. For this, multiresolution framework is explored which provides convenient and efficient structures for the transition between the local and global features. The computational requirements for parameter estimation of the MRF model also become excessive as image size increases. A Bayesian approach is investigated as an alternative estimation method to reduce the computational burden in estimation of the parameters of large images.

An experimental archaeological study on the Baekjae iron smelting furnace and its production process (백제 제철로 및 제철기술의 복원을 위한 실험 고고학적 연구)

  • A Jincheon Seokjangri B23 furnace was reconstructed and iron smelting experiment was performed to investigate an ancient Baekjae iron production process. The work mainly described in this paper is the $1^{st}$ and $2^{nd}$ experiments among the several experiments carried out at Jungwon National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage. Iron ore(magnetite) and oak charcoal were used as a source and a foot bellow was used for air supply. Common results of the experiments are masses of iron, slag and charcoal formed in the furnace. Most iron lumps were formed nearby the tuyere rather than the area of tapping hole. Metallographic and chemical analysis shows that the iron lumps can be used for either forge or cast depending on their carbon content. Low Fe content and glassy texture of the inner slags suggest that the operation environment was quite reducing. Based on the results of the iron smelting experiments, measurements and analysis, various information was obtained regarding physical-chemical and metallurgical processes of the ancient iron smelting process. It is firmly believed that its undisclosed contents can be revealed more in depth with continual reconstitution experiments.
