  • We fabricated textured Ni substrate for YBCO coated film and evaluated the degree of texture in terms of rolling condition and annealing time. The substrate was compacted from pure Ni powder and reduced the thickness to 100 $\mu$m by rolling followed by heat treatment. As decreasing the thickness of substrate, it was observed that the non-uniform deformation such as ‘wave edge’ or ‘wave buckle’ developed locally on it, causing reduced texture. On the other hand, uniformly deformed substrate showed better cube texture indicating the FWHM of in-plane and out-of-plane of about $11^{\circ}$ ~ $14^{\circ}$. In addition, annealing at $1000^{\circ}C$ for 1~ 8 hr did not make a remarkable difference on the texture.

  • Short-length and long-length Ni tapes were fabricated by powder processing, cold rolling and recrystallizatioon heat treatment. In the case of the short-length Ni tape, both in-plane and out-of-plane texture were less than $10^{\circ}$. In the case of the long-length Ni tape, the degree of texture is lower than that of the short-length Ni tape. The relationship between the texture formation and the processing parameter is reported.

  • The texture of Al/Ti thin films deposited on low-dielectric polymer substrates has been investigated. Fifty-nm-thick Ti films and 500-nm-thick Al-1%Si-0.5%Cu (wt%) films were deposited sequentially onto low-k polymers and SiO$_2$ by using a DC magnetron sputtering system. The texture of Al thin film was determined using X-ray diffraction (XRD) theta-2theta ($\theta$-2$\theta$) and rocking curve and the microstructure of Al/Ti films on low-k polymer and SiO$_2$ substrates was characterized by Transmission electron microscopy (TEM). hall thin films deposited on SiO$_2$ had stronger texture than those deposited on low-k polymer. The texture of Al thin films strongly depended on that of Ti films. Cross-sectional TEM resealed that Brains of Ti films on SiO$_2$ substrates had grown perpendicular to the substrate, while the grains of Ti films on SiLK substrates were farmed randomly. The lower degree of 111 texture of Al thin films on low-k polymer was due to Ti underlayer.

  • We fabricated Ni-substrate for YBCO coated conductors and evaluated the effects of pressing and annealing time on texture. Ni substrate was fabricated by powder metallurgy technique and compacts were prepared by applying uniaxial or isostatic pressure. The texture of substrate made by applying cold isostatic pressure (CIP) was stronger than that by uniaxial pressure. The texture of substrate made by CIP had a strong 4-fold symmetry and [111] ∥ ND texture after annealing temperature of 100$0^{\circ}C$. It is to be noted that the degree of texture was almost independent of annealing time and the full-width at half-maximum (FWHM) of in-plane and out-of-plane was measured to be in the range of 9.55$^{\circ}$-10.53$^{\circ}$ and 8.57$^{\circ}$-9.85$^{\circ}$, respectively. Development of strong cube texture of Ni-substrate made by powder metallurgy technique in our study is considered to be suitable for the application of YBCO coated conductors.

  • The objective of this study was to evaluate quality properties, including amylopectin content, and texture analysis of brown rice and germinated brown rice cultivars in Korea for rice processing products. The amylopectin short chain content of germinated brown rice was significantly higher than that of brown rice. Texture analysis test showed that germinated brown rice Jinbo had the lowest hardness and toughness as well as and highest stickiness and adhesiveness. The correlation between degree of polymerization of amylopectin and texture analysis was also evaluated. In particular, germinated brown rice, short-chain amylopectin showed a negative correlation with hardness and toughness, whereas long-chain amylopectin showed a positive correlation with hardness, toughness, and adhesiveness. These results indicate that there is a relationship between degree of polymerization and texture analysis.

  • We proposed a method of effective watermarking based m HVS. To speak generally, HVS parameters are contrast sensitivity, texture degree, entropy sensitivity and standard of deviation, etc. The aim of this paper is evaluated by the experiments of imperceptibility and correctness of watermark. According to some experimental results, contrast sensitivity function is superior in smooth image. On the other hand, standard of deviation provides good results in rough images. Consequently, how to select the parameters considering image attribute is key problem in effective watermarking.

  • In this paper, we proposed a robust watermarking algorithm based on fuzzy inference and human visual system. In the first, discrete wavelet transform(DWT) is involved to calculate additive energy strength, then we devised fuzzy inference, which was established by computing contrast and texture degree in gray-level image. Watermark is embeded into the coefficients of 3-level DWT so as to consider a spatial effects. Visual recognizable patterns such as binary image were used as a watermark Consequently, experimental results showed that proposed algorithm is robust in JPEC compression.

  • Nickel and nickel-tungsten alloy were electroplated on a cold rolled and heat treated copper(Cu) substrate. 4 mm-thick high purity commercial grade Cu was rolled to various thicknesses of 50, 70, 100 and 150 micron. High reduction ratio of 30% was applied down to 150 micron. Rolled texture was converted into cube texture via high temperature heat treatment at $400-800^{\circ}C$. Grain size of Cu was about 50 micron which is much smaller compared to >300 micron for the Cu prepared using smaller reduction pass of 5%. 1.5 km-long 150 micron Cu was fabricated with a rolling speed of 33 m/min and texture of Cu was uniform along length. Abnormal grain growth and non-cube texture appeared for the specimen anneal above $900^{\circ}C$. 1-10 micron thick Ni and Ni-W film was electroplated onto an annealed cube-textured Cu or directly on a cold rolled Cu. Both specimens were annealed and the degree of texture was measured. For electroplating of Ni on annealed Cu, Ni layer duplicated the cube-texture of Cu substrate and the FWHM of in plane XRD measurement for annealed Cu layer and electroplated layer was $9.9^{\circ}\;and\;13.4^{\irc}$, respectively. But the FWHM of in plane XRD measurement of the specimen which electroplated Ni directly on cold rolled Cu was $8.6^{\circ}$, which is better texture than that of nickel electroplated on annealed Cu and it might be caused by the suppression of secondary recrystallization and abnormal grain growth of Cu at high temperature above $900^{\circ}C$ by electroplated nickel.

  • This study was conducted to standardize the cooking methods of Omija-Pyuns and to investigate the effect of different starch densities (6% 7%, 8%, 9%) on the texture and taste of Omija-Pyuns. The results of these studies were as follows: 1) It was better for Omija to soak for 18 hours. The most favorite Mungbean starch density of 7% of Omija-Pyuns has the degree of lightness of 18.90, the degree of redness of 19.18, and the degree of yellowness of 3.98. 2) The Brix of syrup used for Omija-Pyuns was 49.4%. 3) As a result of the measurement of texture through Instron, if Mungbean starch density is increased, its hardness also increase. Each of the Omija-Pyuns (6%, 7%, 8%, 9%, in density) has showed its effection (p<0.05). 4) The result of the sensory evaluation showed that the Omija-Pyuns produced with Mungbean starch density of 7% was most preferred in appearance and overall taste, but it did not show the statistical effection (p<0.05) from the Omija-Pyuns produced with Mungbean starch density of 8%. The flavour was highest in Omija-Pyuns of 6%, and as the density was increased, the flavour decreased.

  • Objective: The aim of this study was to develop an automated computer-aided diagnostic system for diagnosis of thyroid cancer pattern in fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) microscopic images with high degree of sensitivity and specificity using statistical texture features and a Support Vector Machine classifier (SVM). Materials and Methods: A training set of 40 benign and 40 malignant FNAC images and a testing set of 10 benign and 20 malignant FNAC images were used to perform the diagnosis of thyroid cancer. Initially, segmentation of region of interest (ROI) was performed by region-based morphology segmentation. The developed diagnostic system utilized statistical texture features derived from the segmented images using a Gabor filter bank at various wavelengths and angles. Finally, the SVM was used as a machine learning algorithm to identify benign and malignant states of thyroid nodules. Results: The SVMachieved a diagnostic accuracy of 96.7% with sensitivity and specificity of 95% and 100%, respectively, at a wavelength of 4 and an angle of 45. Conclusion: The results show that the diagnosis of thyroid cancer in FNAC images can be effectively performed using statistical texture information derived with Gabor filters in association with an SVM.
