An Experimental Study on flow Noise in a 180 Degree Circular Tube (180도 원형 곡관에서 유동소음에 대한 실험적 연구)

  • During the past three or four decades, the characteristics of turbulent flow have been studied extensively because of their scientific and academic importance. This research deals with the periodic flow oscillation without swirling flow in a 180 degree circular tube using hot wire anemometry, microphone and accelerometer. The frequency regions are observed through the structured oscillation from spectrum. This work carried out to measure the sound level for each Reynolds number, $6{\times}10^4$, $8{\times}10^4$ and $1{\times}10^5$ respectively at the test tube without swirl flow.

Development of Flow Visualization Device with Smoke Generator in Learning Wind Tunnel (학습용 풍동의 연기 유동가시화 장치 개발)

  • The purpose of this study was to develop of the smoke flow visualization device of learning wind tunnel, teaching-learning materials in order to demonstrate air-flow around the fluid-flow field qualitatively and understand the resistance concepts of fluid-flow in secondary school. The contents of this study were consisted of the development and experiment of smoke flow visualization for learning wind tunnel. The main results of this study were as follows: First, this developed teaching-learning material here will help students understand the fundamental physical phenomena related with the resistance of fluid and the various patterns of air-flow in the field of transportation technology. Second, flow visualization has shown the same tendency in both of theoretical and experimental patterns. Third, the airfoil model has the smallest wake region meaning resistance against air-flow of circular cylinder and square rod model. Forth, flow separation point at leading edge and wide wake region began to show under the angle of attack of airfoil model ${\alpha}$ is $20^{\circ}$. Fifth, the wake width of the flow field behind a golf ball with dimple became slightly narrower than that without dimple. Sixth, the developed device was made to apply the teaching and learning materials for the experiment and practice in order to increase students' interest and attitude.

Analysis of the Mathematically Gifted 6th and 7th Graders' Spatial Visualization Ability of Solid Figures (입체도형에 대한 $6{\sim}7$학년 수학영재들의 공간시각화 능력 분석)

  • This research aims to look into the mathematically gifted 6th and 7th graders spatial visualization ability of solid figures. The subjects of the research was six male elementary school students in the 6th grade and one male middle school student in the 1th grade receiving special education for the mathematically gifted students supported by the government. The task used in this research was the problems that compares the side lengths and the angle sizes in 4 pictures of its two dimensional representation of a regular icosahedron. The data collected included the activity sheets of the students and in-depth interviews on the problem solving. Data analysis was made based on McGee's theory about spatial visualization ability with referring to Duval's and Del Grande's. According to the results of analysis of subjects' spatial visualization ability, the spatial visualization abilities mainly found in the students' problem-solving process were the ability to visualize a partial configuration of the whole object, the ability to manipulate an object in imagination, the ability to imagine the rotation of a depicted object and the ability to transform a depicted object into a different form. Though most subjects displayed excellent spatial visualization abilities carrying out the tasks in this research, but some of them had a little difficulty in mentally imagining three dimensional objects from its two dimensional representation of a solid figure.

Flow and Heat Transfer Characteristics of $CO_2$/Oil Mixtures in a Circular Tube

  • The present study is directed at flow and heat transfer of $CO_2$ and oil mixtures in a circular tube. PAG and POE oils are considered in this study. Flow characteristics of $CO_2$ and oil mixtures have been investigated by flow visualization. Pressure drop has been measured in the range of operating mass flow rate from 0.1 to 0.4 kg/min in a circular tube. Heat transfer characteristics of $CO_2$/oil mixtures have been investigated using a counterflow heat exchanger. In case of pure liquid $CO_2$ as well as $CO_2$ and POE mixtures, flow are seen to be uniform so that $CO_2$ and POE oil are still miscible even at flowing state. However, it is found that $CO_2$ and PAG are not miscible. Pressure drop of $CO_2$/PAG mixtures are much higher than that of $CO_2$/POE mixtures as well as pure $CO_2$ at a fixed mass flow rate. As the concentration of POE oil is increased from 0 to 5 wt%, pressure drop is increased. However, heat transfer rate and heat transfer coefficient of $CO_2$/POE mixtures are much higher than that of $CO_2$/PAG mixtures. The f-factor correlation and Nusselt number correlation for $CO_2$/POE oil mixtures are suggested in this paper.

Clinical Application of $^{99m}Tc-HIDA$ Cholescintigraphy in the Cholecystitis (담낭염 환자에서의 $^{99m}Tc-HIDA$ Scan의 진단적 의의)

  • Cholescintigraphic studies with $^{99m}Tc-HIDA$(dimethyl iminodiacetic acid) were performed in 22 cases of normal subjects, 21 of acute cholecystitis, 12 of chronic cholecystitis and 12 others, with the results of, 1) In normal control group, liver and intrahepatic biliary tree, CBD and gall bladder, and G-I tract appeared at 10, 20 and 30 minutes after intravenous injection of $^{99m}Tc-HIDA$ respectively, 2) In acute cholecystitis, 20 among 21 cases showed non-visualization of gall bladder with the diagnostic accuracy, sensitivity and specificity of 93.2%, 95.2% and 100% respectively. 3) In chronic cholecystitis, 5 among 12 cases showed non-visualization of gall bladder and remained 7 among 12 cases showed poor contraction of gall bladder (4), delayed visualization of gall bladder (1) and normal findings (2). 4) In the other disease group, the 12 cases which initially suspected as acute cholecystitis, revealed normal scan findings to exclude the cystic duct obstruction easily, With the above results, this scintigraphic procedure was found very rapid, accurate and easily available method for the determining of the cystic duct patency.

  • In this study, we developed the activity program for data visualization utilizing scratch and applied it to preliminary coding instructors and then verified its effect. The activity program was developed based on the procedure of ADDIE model based on the result of preliminary requirement analysis conducted for 20 teachers of computer elementary school incumbent primary school. The developed program was organized by "${\bigcirc}{\bigcirc}$Center for Creative Economy and Innovation" and a total of 21 hours set lectures and practical training for 4 weeks for 3 hours each 3 times per week in "Youth Coding Project" held at "${\bigcirc}{\bigcirc}$University" It applied to time. Application of the program In order to verify the effect on creativity, Torrance Tests of Creative Thinking Figures A and B were introduced and pre- and post tests were carried out. As a result of the verification, it was found that the educational program developed in this research is effective for improving the creativity of the preliminary coding instructors.

Thermal-flow Characteristics of Magnetic Fluid for Concentric Annuli Under Fixing Magnetic Field Using Visualization Technique (가시화기법을 이용한 고정자장에서 이중원관내 자성유체의 열유동 특성에 관한 연구)

  • This article is experimentally to investigate thermal-flow characteristics of the magnetic fluid for concentric annuli under externally fixed magnetic fields using visualization technique. Temperatures of the inner tube and outer tube in the tested concentric annuli were constantly maintained at both $30^{\circ}C$ and $25^{\circ}C$ and the middle tube was filled with the magnetic fluid. Magnetic field was uniformly applied using 4 permanent magnets at 4 directions of the concentric annuli. As a result, the thermal-flow characteristics of the magnetic fluid for concentric annuli could be controlled by directions of the external magnetic fields.

Influence of Periodic Blowing and Suction on a Turbulent Boundary Layer (주기적인 분사/흡입이 난류경계층에 미치는 영향)

  • An experimental study was carried out to investigate the effect of periodic blowing and suction on a turbulent boundary layer. Particle image velocimetry (PIV) was used to probe the characteristics of the flow. The local forcing was introduced to the boundary layer via a sinusoidally-oscillating jet issuing from a thin spanwise slot. Three forcing frequencies (f$^{+}$=0.044, 0.066 and 0.088) with a fixed forcing amplitude (A$^{+}$=0.6) were employed at $Re_{=690. The effect of the forcing angles ($\alpha$=60$^{\circ}$ , 90$^{\circ}$ and 120$^{\circ}$ ) was investigated under the fixed forcing frequency (f$^{+}$=0.088). The PIV results showed that the wall region velocity decreases on imposition of the local forcing. Inspection of phase-averaged velocity profiles revealed that spanwise large-scale vortices were generated in the downstream of the slot and persist further downstream. The highest reduction in skin friction was achieved at highest forcing frequency (f$^{+}$=0.088) and a forcing angle of $\alpha$=120$^{\circ}$. The spatial fraction of the vortices was examined to analyze the skin friction reduction.

  • National wind atlas of Korea requires effective database management because it has been constructed by 5-year long-term time-series numerical wind simulation. Therefore, database of the national wind map has been developed to increase data structure efficiency using IDL scientific programming language which has outstanding feature in mega-capacity numerical dataset. Visualization module also has been developed under IDL environment and it is anticipated to maximize post processing efficiency and applicability of the national wind map especially in the standing points of researchers and developers.

  • An experimental study was performed to investigate adiabatic wall temperature and heat transfer coefficient around on a module with longitudinal fin heat sink cooled by forced air flow. In the first method, inlet air flow(1-7m/s) and input power(3-5W) was varied after a heated module were placed on an adiabatic floor($320{\times}550{\times}1mm^{3}$). An adiabatic wall temperature was determinated to use liquid crystal film(LCF). In the second method to determinate heat transfer coefficient, inlet air flow(1-7m/s) and the heat flux of rubber heater($0.031-0.062\;W/cm^{2}$) was varied after an adiabatic module was placed on rubber heater covering up an adiabatic floor. In addition, surface oil-film visualization were performed to characterize the macroscopic flow-field around a module.
