  • As the design complexity increases, it is a major problem that the size of test pattern is large and power consumption is high in scan, especially system-on-a-chip(SoC), with the automatic test equipment(ATE). Because static compaction of test patterns heads to higher power for testing, it is very hard to reduce the test pattern volume for low power testing. This paper proposes an efficient compression/decompression algorithm based on run-length coding for reducing the amount of test data for low power testing that must be stored on a tester and be transferred to SoC. The experimental results show that the new algorithm is very efficient by reducing the memory space for test patterns and the hardware overhead for the decoder.

  • The compression-compression fatigue properties of the closed cell Al-Si-Ca alloy foams have been studied. The monotonic and cyclic compressive properties were compared with each other and the fatigue stress-life (S-N) curves were presented. In compression-compression fatigue, the crushing was found to initiate in a single band which broadens gradually with additional fatigue cycles. Progressive shortening of the specimen took place due to a combination of low cycle fatigue failure and cyclic ratcheting which is in accordance with the findings of previous researchers [1-3]. Young's modulus of the foam was found to decrease with the increasing strain in case of fatigue test however in case of monotonic compression test the value of Young's modulus increased with the strain (number of cycles). The endurance limit on the basis of $10^{7}$ cycles obtained by extrapolating the experimental results were 0.98 MPa and 1.70 MPa for load ratios 0.1 and 0.5 respectively which are 34 % and 59 % of the plateau stress.

  • The effect of coating of liner components with oxidized starch on the properties of corrugated box was examined . Coating was carried out on liner components of B flute, single-wall corrugated board(SK180/S120/K200) , and corrugated box was made from the treated corrugated board. Box was made in a regular slotted container (RSC) style, and box compression strength was determined in the direction of top-to-bottom compression. The compression strength of box coated on outside liner component showed 15.4% improvement for 1.58g㎡ coating. On the other hand, the strength of box coated on outside liner component showed only 1.45% improvement for 1.41g/㎡ coating and 3.46% improvement for 2.32g/㎡ coating. Coating on inside liner component with oxidized starch at low coating weight more significantly improved box compression strength than coating on outside liner component, and the improvement was marked at the coating weight of 1.5-2.5g/㎡. In estimating top-to-bottom box compression strength, the experimental values were closer to the calculated values from McKee's equation suing edgewise compression strength of the combined board measured by column crush test than those from Kellicutt's equation using compression strength of component paperboards measured by ring crush test.

  • Mechanical properties of potato and sweet potato were measured under impact and compression loading. The test apparatus consisted of disgital storage oscilloscope and simple mechanisms which can apply compression and impact forces to potatoes and sweet potatoes. The mechanical properties could be measured while the tissues were ruptured in a very short period time less than 10 ms by impact loading. Rupture force, energy, and deformation were measured as mechanical properties of potatoes and sweet potatoes under impact and compression loading. Rupture forces under impact and compression loading were in the range of 84.1 to 93.7N and 128.9 to 132.2N for external tissues and 60.1 to 64.8N and 158.9 to 171.1N for internal tissues of potato and sweet potato, respectively. Compression speeds and drop heights for each test were in the range of 1.25 to 62.5mm/min and 8 to 24cm.

  • The compression index is one of the geotechnical properties which represent the compressibility of clay. The compression index are generally obtained from consolidation tests, otherwise it has been predicted by soil properties due to the efficiency time and cost. In this study, consolidation tests result for Busan and Inchon clays are analyzed to suggest the correlations between the compression index and soil properties. It is found that the compression index is well correlated with the void ratio and natural water contents. The prediction errors, which is difference of compression indices between measured from consolidation test and predicted by liquid limits, decrease with ${\Delta}e_0/e_L$.

  • The high temperature deformation behavior of the activated sintered W powder compacts was investigated. The W compact showed the relative density of 94% with the average W grain size of $23\mutextrm{m}$ by activated sintering at $1400^{\circ}C$ for 1 hour. Compression tests were carried out in the temperature range of $900-1100^{\circ}C$ at the strain rate range of $10^{0}$/sec - $10^{-3}$/sec. True stress-strain curve and microstructure exhibited the grain boundary brittleness which was dependent on the compression test temperature. The activated sintered W compact showed that the maximum stress as well as the strain at the maximum stress was abruptly decreased as the test temperature increase from $900^{\circ}C$ to 1000 and $1100^{\circ}C$ regardless of the strain rate. The discrepancy of the microstructure in the specimen center was obviously observed with the increase of the test temperature. After compression test at $900^{\circ}C$ the W grain was severely deformed normally against the compression axis. However, after compression test at $1000^{\circ}C$ and $1100^{\circ}C$ the W grain was not deformed, but the microcrack was formed in the W grain boundary. The Ni-rich second phase segregated along the W grain boundary could be partly unstable over $900^{\circ}C$ and affect the poor mechanical property of the activated sintered W compact.

  • Front the production on the farm to the consumer, agricultural products are subject to various physical treatments involving mechanical techniques and devices. It is essential to understand the physical laws governing the response of these biological materials so that the machines, processes, and handling operations can be designed fur maximum efficiency and the highest quality of the end products. A compression test system was developed to test the physical properties of fruits including apple, pear, and peach which may lead to a better understanding of the physical laws. The test system consisted of a digital storage oscilloscope and simple mechanism which can apply quasi-static compression to fresh fruits. Rupture force, energy, and deformation were measured at the five levels of compression speed from 1.25 to 62.5 mm/min for each internal and external tissues. Rupture forces for apple and pear were in the range of 42.2 to 46.2 N and 38.8 to 41.2 N for external and infernal tissues, respectively. Rupture forces fir peach external tissues were in the range of 48.2 to 54.0 N.

  • A relationship between stress and stain is very important to design a die to avoid defects of products during semi-solid forming process. Since the liquid will be of eutectic composition in alloys liquid segregation will result in significant or undesirable situation. The materials used in this experiment are A 357. A390, Al2024 alloys that is fabricated by the electro-magnetic stirring process from Pechiney in France. The compression test was performed by induction heating equipment and MTS. In order to prevent the liquid segregation these measured temperature would be useful to control of strain rate during compression test. The liquid segregation is controlled as change of the strain rate and solid fraction during the compression process, The characteristics of flow between solid and liquid phase considering liquid segregation is examined through the above experiments. In the case of medium and high volume fractions of solid the distribution of strain rate is calculated by using compression test data of semi-solid materials (SSM). The thixoforming experiments with the designed die are carried out successfully. The die filling patterns of SSM for variation of die temperature and pressing force have been investigated. The hardness of the thixoformed scroll products is evaluated in terms of the microstructure for each position.

  • In order to investigate the influence of the water on compression characteristic of decomposed granite soils, a single particle crushing test and one-dimensional compression tests were carried out on three decomposed granite soils and Silica sand. The initial fracture strength for single particle reduced and variability of the strength increases due to weakening by existing water. Moreover, it was recognized that one-dimensional compression characteristic was related to the initial fracture strength characteristic, and the initial fracture strength also has the effect of weathering.

  • The stress corrosion index of Kumamoto andesite are evaluated by two types of testing method. One is the uniaxial compression test under various water vapor pressures, and the other is the double torsion (DT) test under a constant water vapor pressure. For the uniaxial compression tests, the uniaxial compressive strength increases linearly with decreasing water vapor pressure on the double logarithmic coordinates. As the results, the stress corrosion index obtained is estimated 44. On the other hand, in the DT test, the relaxation (RLX) test and the constant displacement rate (CDR) test were conducted. For the CDR test, as the displacement rate of loading point increases, the crack velocity increases. However, the fracture toughness is constant regardless of the change in displacement rate and the average fracture toughness is evaluated $2.07MN/m^{3/2}$. For the RLX test, the crack velocity-stress intensity factor curves are smooth and linear. The stress corrosion index estimated from the curves is 37. Comparing stress corrosion indexes in the uniaxial compression test and the DT test, there is no significant difference in these values, and they are considered to be in coincident each other regardless of testing methods. Therefore, it is concluded that stress corrosion is one of material constants of rock.
