  • Tensile strength is considered key properties for characterizing rock material in engineering project. It is determined by direct and indirect methods. Point load test is a useful testing method to estimate the tensile strengths of rocks. In this paper, the effects of rock shape on the point load index of gypsum are investigated by PFC2D simulation. For PFC simulating, initially calibration of PFC was performed with respect to the Brazilian experimental data to ensure the conformity of the simulated numerical models response. In second step, nineteen models with different shape were prepared and tested under point load test. According to the obtained results, as the size of the models increases, the point load strength index increases. It is also found that the shape of particles has no major effect on its tensile strength. Our findings show that the dominant failure pattern for numerical models is breaking the model into two pieces. Also a criterion was rendered numerically for determination of tensile strength of gypsum. The proposed criteria were cross checked with the results of experimental point load test.

  • We briefly review three Raleigh type location tests based on direction vectors, which have been shown to be efficient when the distribution is unknown, skewed, or heavy-tailed. Then we calculate their test breakdown points and discuss the robustness of Randles multivariate sign test for one-sample.

  • The liquid limit(LL) test is universally used as a standard test for determining one of the index properties of a clay. There are two methods of determining the LL, Casagrande method and cone penetration method that is fall cone test. The interpretation of the Casagrande method of obtaining the LL is not obvious, but it has been suggested that the fall cone test is essentially a strength test and that the LL test simply ascertains the moisture content at which a clay has a certain standard undrained shear strength. This paper presents a determination of the LL by a single-point method. Results obtained from fall cone that is general method and a single-point method are analyzed by comparison.

  • In this paper, we consider a change point test for stochastic volatility models. By considering the relation between moments of the logarithms of squared returns and the parameters, we construct the cusum test to detect changes of the parameters. We also carry out a simulation study and verify that the proposed test is more powerful than the cusum test proposed by Kokoszka and Leipus (2000).

  • Several tests are performed to evaluate road booming noise. Baseline test delivers the information of road noise characteristics. Coupling effect between structure and acoustics is obtained from the mode shapes and the natural frequencies by the modal test. Equivalent stiffness at joint areas between chassis and car-body system can be determined by the input point inertance test. Noise sensitivity of body mounting point of a chassis part can be obtained from the noise transfer function test with input point inertance test. Operational deflection shape makes us analyze the actual vibration modes of the chassis system under actual leading and find noise sources very easily. Finally, the transfer path analysis is used to Identify noise Paths through the chassis system. The objectives and the procedures of the tests are described in this Paper Also, the guideline for efficient road noise evaluation test can be found.

  • This study was carried out for the age 60years over who are attending a villa house for the aged during day time. The purpose of this study was to measure occurance rate of Diabetes by self cognitiveness about their disease of Diabetes; by result of urine test tape test and a questionaire study and self-care behavior about Diabetes. The results of the study are summarized as follow: 1. General Characteristics of the suryeyed. The population studied consisted of 143 males and 256 females comprising $73.9\%$ of the total population registered at the elderly villa house at the time of the study. The mean age group of the study was 70-79 years; educational level $77.2\%$ was below than primary education. 2. The results of Diabetes study. The number of cases who were self-recognized about their Diabetes were 19; 8 males and 11 females. The number of urine sugar positive cases was 35; 19 males and 16 females. The consistency rate of positive urine sugar test was $93.5\%$ An average degree of the results of knowledge test about Diabetes was 1. 4 point. When the correct 1 item was given 1 point for the 6 item of questions. Among 19 cases of self-recognized disease group an average degree of the knowledge test results was 2. 3 point and among the 35 cases of the urine test positive group an average degree of the knowledge test results was 1. 7 point. The average degree of self -care behavior about Diabetes was 1. 6 point when measued 3 point scale on the self-care behavior for the 7 item of questions.

  • Objectives : This report is to compare Remote Acupuncture Point Needling group with Trigger Point Needling group about Shoulder pain treatment. Methods : From November 11th 2006 to May 10th 2007, 30 cases of shoulder pain patients were divided into 2 groups ; one group(test I group) took remote acupuncture point needling, and the other group(test II group) took trigger point needling. For evaluating change of pain, Visual Analog Scale(VAS) and clinical evaluation grade and Range of Motion was checked before and after Treatment. Results : Both acupuncture therapy showed good effect on shoulder pain. And test II group showed better effect on decreasing pain than test I group. It was proved by the difference between VAS and ROM checked before treatment and what checked after treatment. But it was only significant statistically for adduction, inversion and eversion of shoulder joint motion. Conclusion : Trigger point needling can be recommended as a useful therapy to treat shoulder pain.

  • This paper deals with the problem of testing mean change with one change-point with the normal random variables. We propose a test with the mean difference for change in a location parameter. A power comparison study of various change-point test statistics is performed via Monte Carlo simulation with S-plus software.
