  • A software engineering process has been developed for the design of safety critical software for Wolsong 2/3/4 project to satisfy the requirement of the regulatory body. Among the process, this paper described the detail process of validation testing peformed to ensure that the software with its hardware, developed by the design group, satisfies the requirements of the functional specification prepared by the independent functional group. To perform the test, test facility and test software ore developed and actual safety system computer was connected. Three kinds of test cases, i.e., functional test performance test and self-check test were programmed and run to verify each functional specifications. Test failures ore fedback to the design group to revise the software and test result were analyzed and documented in the report to submit to the regulatory body. The test methodology and procedure were very efficient and satisfactory to perform the systematic and automatic test. The test results were also acceptable and successful to verify the software acts as specified in the program functional specification. This methodology can be applied to the validation of other safety-critical software.

  • Objectives: This study compared the cyclic fatigue resistance of nickel-titanium (NiTi) files obtained in a conventional test using a simulated canal with a newly developed method that allows the application of constant fatigue load conditions. Materials and Methods: ProFile and K3 files of #25/.06, #30/.06, and #40/.04 were selected. Two types of testing devices were built to test their fatigue performance. The first (conventional) device prescribed curvature inside a simulated canal (C-test), the second new device exerted a constant load (L-test) whilst allowing any resulting curvature. Ten new instruments of each size and brand were tested with each device. The files were rotated until fracture and the number of cycles to failure (NCF) was determined. The NCF were subjected to one-way ANOVA and Duncan's post-hoc test for each method. Spearman's rank correlation coefficient was computed to examine any association between methods. Results: Spearman's rank correlation coefficient (${\rho}$ = -0.905) showed a significant negative correlation between methods. Groups with significant difference after the L-test divided into 4 clusters, whilst the C-test gave just 2 clusters. From the L-test, considering the negative correlation of NCF, K3 gave a significantly lower fatigue resistance than ProFile as in the C-test. K3 #30/.06 showed a lower fatigue resistance than K3 #25/.06, which was not found by the C-test. Variation in fatigue test methodology resulted in different cyclic fatigue resistance rankings for various NiTi files. Conclusions: The new methodology standardized the load during fatigue testing, allowing determination fatigue behavior under constant load conditions.

  • In order to test and evaluate the various functions and services of NGN would be promised, a specified methodology is needed and a development for the identification of testing object, configuration and test traffic are required. Simulation and analytical modeling methodshave used for IP performance testing, but further study issue still remains. This paper proposes new evaluation methodology to achieve an objective approach rather than a subjective and isolated, based on the real-field environment, for NGN network. For this purpose, background traffic pattern to interfere test traffic was specified and it was tested in actual NGN testbed with systems having NGN technology, such as per bandwidth and packet size. The results shows the suggested methodology is appropriate, comparing with parameters which are Delay, Jitter and Loss the current approach for the end-to-end performance evaluation on NGN.

  • In this study, a penalty cost appropriation methodology for CGAM performance acceptance test was suggested. As the result of CGAM performance test, there were 0.31% decreases in electricity output, 0.39% decreases in heat rate on electricity output, 0.31% increases in heat output, and 0.23% increases in heat rate on heat output. As the result of penalty cost appropriation for above performance, the penalty cost was calculated as -$20,837 in electricity output, -$25,930 in heat rate on electricity output, +$10,340 in heat output, and +$7,715 in heat rate on heat output. Each penalty is appropriated as above fore kinds, however the total penalty should be determined as how to combine above fore kinds of penalty. In our calculation, the minimum total penalty was -$18,215 and the maximum total penalty was -$46,767. The methodology of total penalty appropriation should be determined in the contract between ordering organization and construction firm, and we can understand that it is very important.

  • Testing engine performance using an engine dynamometer requires high technical researchers and many facilities. Nowadays, different variables of CAE program are used for identifying the engine performance instead of engine dynamometer test. This is more convenience, as it does not necessitate an abundance of engine dynamometer experiments and, in addition, produces better results. However, CAE programs also contain various variables which can affect engine performance. Those are coupled with each other, thus making it difficult to determine the effectiveness of different variables on engines. DoE (Design of Experiments) methodology is an efficient way to verify the magnitude of effectiveness on engine performance as well as making responses to be optimized at once without trial & error. This study used data from WAVE simulations, which modeled the DOHC SI engine with in-line 4 cylinders at 1500, 3000 and 4500rpm. DoE methodology is designed properly to determine the effectiveness of five variables on power, BSFC, and volumetric efficiency, as well as to find the optimal response conditions at each rpm through a minimized number of experiments. After finishing DoE process, all the results are examined concerning the reliability of test through a verification experiment.

  • In the case of the flash memory, various kinds of transistors and the wide range of operation voltage are necessary to achieve the read/write operations. Therefore, the characteristics of transistors are measured in the silicon for the circuit design, and the test vehicle run must be processed. In this study, an efficient design flow is suggested using TCAD tools. The test vehicle is replaced with well-calibrated TCAD simulation. First, the calibration methodology is introduced and tested for flash memory device. The calibration errors are less than 5% of a full chip operation, which is accepted by the designers. The results of the calibration were used to predict I-V curves and model parameter of the various transistors for the design of flash device.

  • Because of computational burden and complex topology of substation, a transmission overload relief using circuit-breaker switching was very complex and difficult. However, a on-line algorithm for reducing the overloads in transmission lines has made progress due to the advance of IT technology. This paper describes the methodology for alleviating the overloads in transmission lines by circuit-breaker switching. First, the severe contingency lists and substations were selected from the results of contingency analysis. Then the switch combinations are determined using circuit-breakers of the selected substation. The topology changes are limited to equipment outage, bus split, island split, bus merge and island merge. Finally, the fast screening and full analysis methods are used to analyze the overload in transmission lines. To verify the performance of the proposed methodology, we performed a comprehensive test for both test system and large-scale power systems. The results of these tests showed that the proposed methodology can accurately alleviate the overloads in transmission lines from online data and can be applied to on-line applications.

  • As the computer graphic technology has developed rapidly, the management of visual effects production has also changed. However, the insufficient rest and the inefficiency of communication have resulted in more pressure which would weaken the strength of the whole team. For searching the possible solution, this research has applied the SCRUM in VFX production and analyzed the impact of SCRUM for VFX project management. SCRUM was first used in the projects of software development, but now there are already many successful examples of introducing SCRUM into their facilities in various fields. This paper has used SCRUM in the experimental group and present methodology in VFX project management in the control group for the same project. Based on the analysis of the questionnaire investigation from both group with using t-test for data analysis, it has confirmed the credibility of the questions in the questionnaire index as α > 0.72. With the result of analysis based on the corresponding samples of the t-test, it shows the diversity of SCRUM for project management, and the convenience of communication within the team can enhance the team strength. Follow-up research will attend to provide more suggestions for applying SCRUM in other areas in project management.

  • In this paper, We set up the development methodology of communication protocols as well as the concrete design concept concerning for how to define and use the PDU, SDU, SAP, and service primitives using SDL, which is recommended by ITU-T, and other international standard languages such as ASN.l, MSC, and TTCN. This methodology covers the SDL design of extended lures protocol, a well known protocol example, insertion of ASN.1 message for transportation of bit string, generation of MSC for validation of design specification, generation of test cases using TTCN from validation, and performance of conformance test.
