  • The purpose of this study is to find out an efficient way to utilize clothes. It will be pro- environmental effort besides enhancing clothing life. The study is based on a survey of daily clothing practices. Questionnaire is distributed to female college students who are majoring clothing, textiles, and/or home economics and their parents (n=254). ANOVA, Scheffe test, 1-test and regression are pursued respectively. The main results are as follows: 1. Students, mothers and fathers possess 50.3, 49.9, 45.4 unit clothes, respectively. Mothers possess more formal suits while students possess more casual clothes than the others. The possession pattern is affected by socio-economic variables such as income and purchasing price. 2. In the unused rate of clothes, students'(10.2%) and mothers'(9.7%) rate are significantly higher than that of fathers (6.9%). The unused rate and using efficiency of clothes are affected by socio-economic variables: income and age for unused rate; age and purchasing price for using efficiency. 3. The most important reason for unused clothes is found to be design and color of the clothes. Long years of possessing and change of fashion are the next important reasons. 4. Most of respondents are highly conscious of recycling their clothes. Most of them are willing to donate their clothes to others, re·use or exchange them with the others.

  • The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate the efficacy of modeling a surface effect ship's air-cushion flexible seal utilizing a two-dimensional beam under steady state conditions. This effort is the initial phase of developing a more complex three-dimensional model of the air-seal-water fluid-structure interaction. The beam model incorporates the seal flexural rigidity and mass with large deformations while assuming linear elastic material response. The hydrodynamic pressure is derived utilizing the OpenFOAM computational fluid dynamic (CFD) solver for a given set of steady-state flow condition. The pressure distribution derived by the CFD solver is compared with the pressure required to deform the seal beam model. The air pressure, flow conditions and seal geometry are obtained from experimental analysis. The experimental data was derived from large-scale experimental tests utilizing a test apparatus of a canonical surface effect ship's flexible seal in a towing tank over a variety of test conditions.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the factors influencing self-identity and menopausal symptoms their influence on level of depression in middle-aged woman. Methods: Participants were 135 middle-aged women who were living in city B, were 45-60 years old, informed of study purpose, and agreed to participate. Data were collected from December, 2012 to January, 2013 using scales measuring depression, self-identity, and menopausal symptoms. Data were analyzed using t-test, ANOVA, Scheff$\acute{e}$ test, Pearson Correlation Coefficients, and Multiple Stepwise Regression. Results: Level of depression was low, self-identity was slightly high, and menopausal symptoms were relatively low in these middle-aged women. There were significant differences in depression by perceived health status and perceived economic status. Depression had a moderate negative correlation with self-identity (r=-.49, p<.001) and a moderate positive correlation with menopausal symptoms (r=.57, p<.001). Menopausal psychological symptoms were the factor most affecting depression and explained 37% of the variance in depression. A total of 51% of variance in depression was explained by menopausal symptoms (psychological and physical), self-identity, and perceived economic status. Conclusion: Thus, an effort to improve self-identity, especially a plan to attenuate menopausal psychological symptoms is needed to reduce depression.

  • There has been recently an on-going effort in railway community to improve the dynamic performance of on-site railroad track with limited track possession time. In this paper, train running test lateral resistant force test and static/dynamic analyses are conducted before and after sprinkle of the ballast stabilizer in order to investigate the dynamic behaviors and parameters of the railroad track. Based upon the above results, effects of the stabilizer is verified, and a table for the track modulus representing on-site track condition and the methods to reduce the vibration and the transmitting forces of the ballasted track components to the infrastructures are suggested. It is thought that the suggestions made in this paper could be used as the preliminary data for the condition assessment and the maintenance of the track in the future.

  • Diesel engines have low specific fuel consumption, but high particulate emissions, mainly soot. Diesel soot is suspected to have significant effects on the health of living beings and might also affect global warming. Hence stringent measures have been put in place in a number of countries and will be even stronger in the near future. Diesel engines require either advanced integrated exhaust after treatment systems or modified engine models to meet the statutory norms. Experimental analysis to study the emission characteristics is a time consuming affair. In such situations, the real picture of engine control can be obtained by the modeling of trend prediction. In this article, an effort has been made to predict emissions smoke and NO$_{x}$ using cylinder combustion derived parameters and diesel particulate filter data, with artificial neural network techniques in MATLAB environment. The model is based on three layer neural network with a back propagation learning algorithm. The training and test data of emissions were collected from experimental set up in the laboratory for different loads. The network is trained to predict the values of emission with training values. Regression analysis between test and predicted value from neural network shows least error. This approach helps in the reduction of the experimentation required to determine the smoke and NO$_{x}$ for the catalyst coated filters.

  • In a Direct Connect(DC) mode altitude engine test, a labyrinth seal is set up between an air intake duct and an engine. The labyrinth seal plays a key role in mechanically isolating them, which contributes to the accurate measurement of thrust and the other component forces. However, when high vertical temperature gradient is generated in the supplied air in the duct, the isolation breaks down. In this paper, a labyrinth seal control device is designed and installed in an effort to eliminate the issue. Test result shows the device successfully gets rid of the contact problem even when high vertical temperature gradient is produced.

  • The blade vibration problem of bladed disk is the most critical subject to consider since it directly affects the stable performance of the engine as well as life of the engine. Especially, due to complicated vibration pattern of the bladed disk, more effort was required for vibration analysis and test. The research of measuring the vibration of the bladed disk, using NSMS(Non-intrusive stress measurement) instead of Aeromechanics testing method requiring slip ring or telemetry system with strain gauge, was successful. These testing can report the actual stresses seen on the blades; detect synchronous resonances that are the source of high cycle fatigue(HCF) in blades; measure individual blade mis-tuning and coupled resonances in bladed disks. In order to minimize the error being created due to heat expansion, the tip timing sensor is installed parallel to the blade trailing edge, yielding optimal result. Also, when working on finite element analysis, the whole bladed disk has gone through three-dimensional analysis, evaluating the family mode. The result of the analysis matched well with the test result.

  • This research aims to investigate the relationship between moral deficiency and moral consumption. Consumers' moral values cannot be separated from their consumption activities. In other words, consumers' spending preferences may be an expression of their beliefs about what is right and wrong. A less explored concept within moral consumption behavior theory is 'moral deficiency'. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first research effort to integrate green purchasing and religious purchasing under the banner of moral consumption behavior. There are two studies: Study 1 aimed to measure the moral deficiency of participants through moral scenarios (implicit) and then test its relationship with the green purchase and religious purchase, two proxies of moral consumption. A total of 121 universities were chosen via the nonprobability sampling method. To improve the results of the prior study, Study 2 aimed to measure the moral deficiency of participants through moral deficiency self-report (explicit) and then test its effects on green purchase and religious purchase. A total of 208 participants from the general public were recruited via the nonprobability sampling method. The findings of the two studies suggest that participants with high moral deficiency showed more intention to engage in moral consumption behavior.

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest 100MPa class ultra high strength concrete mix design model applying neural network theory, in order to minimize an effort wasted by trials and errors method until now. Mix design model was applied to each of the 70 data using binary binder, ternary binder and quaternary binder. Then being repeatedly applied to back-propagation algorithm in neural network model, optimized connection weight was gained. The completed mix design model was proved, by analyzing and comparing to value predicted from mix design model and value measured from actual compressive strength test. According to the results of this study, more accurate value could be gained through the mix design model, if error rate decreases with the test condition and environment. Also if content of water and binder, slump flow, and air content of concrete apply to mix design model, more accurate and resonable mix design could be gained.
