Design and Experimental Study on a Turbo Air Compressor for Fuel Cell Applications (연료전지용 터보 공기압축기의 설계 및 시험평가)

  • This study presents an aerodynamic design and an experimental performance test of a turbo air compressor consisted of mixed-flow impeller and curved diffuser for the PEM fuel cell vehicle application. Many studies compare the efficiency, cost or noise level of high-pressure and low-pressure operation of PEM fuel cell systems. Pressure ratio 2.2:1 is considered as design target The goal of compressor design is to enlarge the flow margin of compressor from surge to choke mass flow rate to cover the operational envelope of FCV. Large-scale rig test is performed to evaluate the compressor performance and to compare the effects of compressor exit pipe volume to stall or surge characteristics. The results show that the mixed-flow compressor designed has large flow margin, and the flow margin of compressor configuration with small exit volume is larger than that with large exit volume.

  • Orthorhombic $LiMnO_2$(o-$LiMnO_2$) has attracted public attentions as a cathode materials of Lithium ion battery because it has low cost and high theoretical discharge capacity of 285mAh $g^{-1}$. In our study, o-$LiMnO_2$ is synthesized by quenching method. To verify their phase structure, X-ray diffraction is accomplished. Test cells are assembled to check electrochemical characteristics using acquired o-$LiMnO_2$ cathode and carbon anode. Charge/Discharge cycling was carried out for 50cycles. And impedance was measured at 1, 2, 5, 10, 30, 50cycle. During cycle test, the max discharge capacity was recorded 139mAh $g^{-1}$ at 10cycle.

  • Hydraulic fitting impulse tester is equipment which produce impulse pressure waveform that specified foreign standard of SAE, JIS etc. Test conditions of SAE J1453 about waveform standard indicates frequency of 35-70 cycle/min, pressure of 560 bar, oil temperature of 93 .+-.3.deg. C etc. and required cycle is a million over. In additions, Test condition operated continuously equipment. This development item adopted new pattern method such as intensifier and rotary distributor is different from already established fitting impulse tester applied servo valve and high pressure direct directional control valve. Therefore, this development item which compares already established item is good reliability, low cost of manufacture and save of electric energy. especially, Domestic small and medium enterprise uses this tester because of economical cause. We develope appropriateness tester which conforms to demand of user.

Applications of Open-source NoSQL Database Systems for Astronomical Spatial and Temporal Data

  • We present our experiences with open-source NoSQL database systems in analyzing spatial and temporal astronomical data. We conduct experiments of using Redis in-memory NoSQL database system by modifying and exploiting its support of geohash for astronmical spatial data. Our experiment focuses on performance, cost, difficulty, and scalability of the database system. We also test OpenTSDB as a possible NoSQL database system to process astronomical time-series data. Our experiments include ingesting, indexing, and querying millions or billions of astronomical time-series measurements. We choose our KMTNet data and the public VVV (VISTA Variables in the Via Lactea) catalogs as test data. We discuss issues in using these NoSQL database systems in astronomy.

  • A novel loading mechanism of wedge roller type has been developed. This type traction drive has long system life and high efficiency by changing the pre-load on a contact point. And this loading mechanism does not need precision machining. So it has, as opposed to the conventional loading mechanism, an advantage in saving manufacturing cost. In this paper, by analyzing pre-load generating mechanism, spring pre-load and the roller size are defined and the stress on the contact point by pre-load is calculated. On the basis of this analysis, the model of wedge roller type traction drive for the test is made and was carried out its performance test. It can transmit input torque up to 1.5 N m, with high efficiency over 91% up to 98%, with slip rate under 2.5%.

  • Vehicle evaluation is performed on the proving ground, and durability test and dynamic test cost lots of money and time. Doing replace real vehicle experiment with similar experiment environment, it will take us much more useful advantages. Suspension simulator is required the robust and high-reliability and used widely. But it's natural of high-leveled control technique to manage to be fitted fluid system's property and complex that is for the lack of self-damping, nonlinearity, compressibility. In designing and evaluating simulator, it is important to understand the capability of kinematic and static performances. In this paper, an kinematic modeling and analysis has been presented using ADAMS to design that can reproduce longitudinal, lateral, and vertical force.

  • Recently vehicle development trend puts emphasis on cost reduction and performance improvement through weight reduction, and safety security to protect passenger and chassis against external impact. Primary factors effected on vehicle safety are chassis structure, chassis system, and safety equipment like bumper. Research in part of weight reduction is proceeding actively about prohibition of over-design and material through optimal design method. Bumper in these factors is demanded two of all factors, safety security and weight reduction. It is the part that prohibits or reduces a physical impact in low speed crash. Bumper is composed of a few parts but this study exhibits the shape of bumper rail has a role on energy absorption of safety security and weight reduction from structure analysis of bumper rail's variable shape surface.

  • In distributed database systems materialized views are useful to solve many problems caused by data replication. This paper deals with the problem of updating materialized views incluing join operations. We use a differential update which uses logs that record the change of base tables in certain periods. This method avoids locking of the base tables so that it makes the system more efficient. We update materialized views periodically to save the updating cost envolved. A screen test is applied to differential files to eliminate tuples that are irrelevant to any of the views being updated. Using these methods, a detailed procedure is addressed to refresh materialized views. Then we show that our update procedure performs better than a semijoin approach.
