In structural applications, brittle materials such as soda-lime glasses and ceramics are usually subjected to multiaxial stress state. Brittle materials with cracks or damage by foreign object impacts are apt to fracture abruptly from cracks, because of their properities of very high strength and low fracture toughness. But in most cases, the residual strength of structural members with damage has been tested under uniaxial stress condition such as the 4-point bend test. Depending upon the crack pattern developed, the strength under multiaxial stress state might be different from the one under uniaxial. A comparative study was carried out to investigate the influence of stress state on the residual strength evaluation. In comparable tests, the residual strength under biaxial stress state by the ball-on-ring test was greater than that under the uniaxial one by the 4-point bend test, when a small size indendation crack was introduced. In the case that crack having an angle of 90deg. to the applied stress direction, the ratio of biaxial to uniaxial flexure strength was about 1.12. The residual strength was different from crack angles to loading direction when it was evaluated by the 4-point bend test. The ratio of residual strength of 45deg. crack to 90deg. one was about 1.20. In the case of specimen cracked by a spherical impact, it was shown that an overall decrease in flexure strength with increasing impact velocity, and the critical impact velocity for formation of a radial and/or cone crack was about 30m/s. In those cases that relatively large cracks were developed as compared with the case of indented cracks, the ratio of residual strength under biaxial stress state to one uniaxial became small.

This paper presents a study on evaluating the reliability indices considering a transmission system. Because successful operation of electric power under the deregulated electricity market depends on transmission system reliability management, quantity evaluation of transmission system reliability is very important. This paper introduces features and operation modes of the Transmission Reliability Evaluation for Large-Scale Systems(TRELSS) Version 6.0, a commercial program made in EPRI, and TranRel-I V3.2, a educational program made in GSNU(GyeongSang National University) for assessing reliability indices of composite power system. The packages access not only bulk but also bus indices for reliability evaluation of composite powers system. The practicality, effectiveness and future works of this methodology are illustrated by demonstrations of two case studies of modified IEEE 25 buses reliability test system using TRELSS and TranRel-I and a brief case study for the KEPCO size system using TranRel-II made in GSNU.

Scour vulnerability evaluation for shallow foundations was performed to assure bridge safety against scour in the national capital region. The case studies for 26 shallow foundations consisted of site investigation including boring test, bridge scour analysis for the design flood, bearing capacity evaluation of the bridge foundation before and after scour, and comprehensive evaluation of bridge scour vulnerability. Bridge scour vulnerability was determined based on the interdisciplinary concept considering predicted scour depth for the design floods and bearing capacity of foundation as well as dimensions of foundation. Nine of 26 shallow foundations showed the potential future vulnerability to scour with significant decrease in the bearing capacity of foundations due to scour and the remaining 17 were expected to maintain their stability against scour.

This paper presents a system level architecture evaluation technique that leverages transaction level modeling but also significantly extends it to the realm of system level performance evaluation. A major issue lies with the modeling effort. To reduce the modeling effort the proposed technique develops the concept of worst case scenarios. Since the memory controller is often found to be an important component that critically affects the system performance and thus needs optimization, the paper further addresses how to evaluate and optimize the memory controllers, focusing on the test environment and the methodology. The paper also presents an industrial case study using a real state-of-the-art design. In the case study, it is reported that the proposed technique has helped successfully find the performance bottleneck and provide appropriate feedback on time.

In this research, regarding the type three blast furnace slag (BS) regulated by KS F 2563 and supplied to actual ready mixed concrete plant, the fineness on specification and actually measured fineness by Blain test were compared, and by applying the hydrometer method used for early prediction of concrete strength, the feasibility of the hydrometer method for acquisition inspection of BS was analyzed. Additionally, the influence of various fineness of BS on properties of cement mortar was also assessed. According to the experimental results of this research, correlation of fineness values between specification and actually measured data were not matched. In the case of the rapid evaluation method using hydrometer, a good relation was shown between the fineness data obtained from hydrometer and Blain test. furthermore, from the cement mortar properties test, there was a good relation was obtained between fineness data from rapid evaluation method by hydrometer and cement mortar properties, while there was no clear relation between fineness data from specification and cement mortar properties. Hence, as a qulity controlling method of BS fineness, a rapid evaluation method using hydrometer is suggested as a new method.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MoLIT) and the Korean Automobile Testing and Research Institute (KATRI) are supporting the development of Lv.3 automated vehicle (hereinafter, AV) technology by constructing an automated driving pilot city (as known as K-City) equipped with total 5 evaluation environments (urban, motorway, suburban, community road, and autonomous parking facility) which is a test bed exclusively for AV (2017~2018). An upgrade project is in a progress to materialize harsh environments such as bad weather (rain, fog, etc.) and reproduction of communication jamming (GPS blocking, etc.) with the purpose of supporting the development of Lv.4 connected & automated vehicle (hereinafter, CAV) technology (2019~2022). We intend to proactively establish a national level standard for CAV test-bed and test road requirements, test method, etc. for establishment of a road map for the construction of the test bed which is being promoted step by step and analyze and, when required, benchmark the case of China that has announced and is utilizing it. Through this, we plan to define standardized requirements (evaluation facility, evaluation system, etc.) on the test bed for the development of Lv.4/4+ CAV technology and utilize the same for the design and construction of a test bed, establishment of a road map for the construction of a real car-based test environment related to the support for autonomous driving service substantiation, etc. through provision of an evaluation environment utilizing K-City, and the establishment of a K-City upgrade strategies, etc.

Purpose - This study attempts to extend the research in responsible luxury by identifying contexts where Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) can promote luxury brands' evaluation. It contributes to the literature on consumer responses to CSR, and to responsible luxury in particular and demonstrates how dispositional consensus and luxury-CSR information of luxury brands affects consumers' evaluation of brand. Research design, data, and methodology - An experiment was conducted to test the relationship between brand evaluation and responsible luxury brands' CSR information using collected data through a survey in a large university of South Korea. Study conditions were manipulated with various product types to analyze the relationship in different product domains. Results - When consensus regarding sincere and altruistic motive of companies for CSR activity is high, the perceived fit between luxury brand and the type of CSR has no effect on brand evaluation. But, in case of lower consensus regarding the benevolent company motives, higher fit enhances evaluation than lower fit. Conclusions - In using consensus as a guiding factor to choose the type of charity with favorably view, the level of irrespective fit can help luxury firms to enjoy the benefits of better image. In case of low consensus donating to charities that are closely related to the brands' product or area of business seems to be fruitful.
