  • Automation ensures accurate and well-organized container transportation in container terminals. This paper addresses operational issues such as equipment scheduling and the coordination between various pieces of equipment in a rail-based automated container terminal. Containers are relayed using multiple types of equipment from road trucks to a vessel and vice versa. Therefore, handshaking is required during a container transfer between different pieces of equipment. Synchronization between the schedules of all the equipment is important to reduce equipment waiting times and the time required for transporting containers, which results in a short turnaround time for a vessel. This paper proposes an integrated control system with the objective of synchronizing the operations of different types of equipment, provides a list of decisions to be made by the control module of each type of equipment, and shows all the required information transfers between control modules. A scheme for the integrated scheduling of multiple types of equipment is proposed. The decisions made by each control module in a real-time fashion are listed with detailed explanations, and the information transfer between managers in a real-time situation at the proposed terminal is described.

  • This paper deals with the case study that determines the best operating system of a container terminal using computer simulation techniques. For the simulation, SIMAN simulation language is used. The simulation model developed circumvents the dimensional restrictions imposed by the SIMAN package. Non-terminating simulation experiments are conducted for the 90 days' work on the basis of operation practices of real terminals.

  • 광양항 컨테이너터미널의 운영을 효율화하기 위해 한국컨테이너부두공단은 자동화운영시스템을 도입하려고 하고 있다. 자동화 컨테이너터미널 운영시스템의 구조를 만들기 앞서 운영시스템의 목표설정이 정의되어야 한다. 본 연구에서는 자동화 컨테이너터미널의 운영목표를 객관적으로 설정하기 위해 AHP 방법을 사용하였으며, 다양한 주체들의 터미널에 대한 요구사항을 수용하는 목표결정을 위해 미래의 고객, 운영자 및 연구기관을 대상으로 설문조사가 시행되었다. 자동화 컨테이너터미널 운영의 제1계층의 목표믹스로는 초기투자비 절감, 운영비 절감, 자동화시스템 성능 향상, 운영효율화 및 생산성 향상, 고객서비스 제고를 선정하였다. 전체적 관점에서 중요한 목표요인은 2계층의 목표믹스중 “운영비 절감”이었다. 특히 설문대상기관 중 컨테이너터미널 고객군이 가장 선호하는 목표는 “고객서비스 제고”요인으로 나타났다. 본 연구의 결과는 향후 터미널개발 및 시스템개발시 고려해야 하는 중요한 사항인 건설투자비의 수준, 정보시스템 및 자동화 하역장비의 투자비 수준, 무인화의 정도 및 터미널운영 성과 등에 대한 일정한 가이드라인을 제시하게 될 것이다.

  • In this paper we show an integrated system of crane maneuvering, crane productivity, terminal operating system, and material handling system, so that the terminal users can have a unified database which enables them to improve the productivity, convenience for users and offer a wide variety of choices resulting in sharing information between terminal operating companies and efficient management of national key harbor industries.

부산항의 On Dock 운영화에 따른 소요 CY 면적 산정에 대하여 (Evaluation of the needed CY Area in Pusan Port under the On Dock Operation System)

  • To develop the port productivity and effictiveness, the introduction of the On Dock Operating System in Pusan Container Terminals has to be considered and the present Off Dock CY be closed step by step. This work aims to evaluate the needed CY area in Pusan Port under the On Dock Operating System. This researching flow is as follows. Firstly, estimate total sea-borne container cargo volumes in Korea and distribute them to all container terminals according to the past trends and the planned port development. Secondly, estimate the average period and the average tiers stored at On Dock CY in case of On Dock Operating System. Thirdly caculate the needed CY Area to handle the distributed container cargo volume under the On Dock Operating System. Finally, the following results are obtained. (1) In 1998, opening the Gamman Terminal, 827 thousands cubic meters are insufficient. (2) In $2001\sim2004$, the insufficiency of needed CY Area will be maximized and estimated to be 936 thousands cubic meters in 2001. (3) In $2005\sim2011$, opening the Gadu Terminal, the insufficiency of needed CY Area will be decreased and estimated to be 240 thousands cubic meters in 2011.

부산항 항만하역시장 안정화 방안에 관한 연구 (A Study on Stabilizing Container Terminal Market in Busan Port)

  • 항만간 허브항 경쟁이 극심해 지고 있는 오늘날, 컨테이너 선사는 M&A 및 전략적 제휴로 컨테이너터미널 운영사와의 가격 협상력의 우월적 지위를 갖게 되어 컨테이너터미널 운영사간에 선사 및 화물유치를 위한 경쟁을 더욱 부추기고 있다. 그러나 수요측면에서 컨테이너물동량 증가율 둔화로 컨테이너터미널에서 처리해야 할 물동량은 한정되어 있는 반면, 공급 측면에서 항만터미널의 지속적인 건설은 항만간 또는 터미널간 물량 유치경쟁을 과열시키고 있다. 특히 부산항은 신항 개장이후 북항과 신항간 물동량 유치경쟁으로 인하여 항만하역시장의 교란을 가져오고 있다. 본 연구에서는 부산항 컨테이너 항만하역시장의 구조적 특성분석과 설문조사 방법론을 통하여 향후 부산항 항만 하역시장의 안정화 방안을 제시하고자 한다. 하역시장 안정화 방안으로 항만하역 요율결정체계 개선, 요금신고제도의 개선 및 공정경쟁규약의 제정 등과 같은 법 제도적 개선방안과 컨테이너터미널 운영사별 처리물량 상한제를 도입을 전제로한 항만풀링제도 및 물량연동 임대료제도의 도입방안을 제안한다.

INMARSAT-C 방식의 선박용 위성통신단말기 개발에 관한 연구 (A study on development of Inmarsat-C type satellite communication terminal)

  • This is the first report about the development of INMARSAT-C Satellite communication terminal. We analyze the existing Inmarsat-C terminal and examine each rules(IMO rule, domestic rules) about terminal. With that result, we design the basic hardware and software of terminal. This report consists of ; 1) the contents of the overall of operating situation and resources of INMARSAT-C system as like operation of communication system, communication channels and services 2) the contents of the specification of Inmarsat-C terminal hardware and software and the rules of IMO and Type approval 3) the design of basic hardware and reserch of signal modulation/demodulation using Viterbi algorithm 4) the design of software algorithms and functions focused in korean situations.

  • This study of bimodal integration management system in conjunction with the tram and the tram cars bimodal integrated management system that occupies a part of the system to perform its role as a bimodal tram vehicle configuration, a device for the vehicle's infrastructure ryureul development and it is aimed to build on the vehicle. In addition, seamless integration with operational management center for interactive communication in a vehicle mounted communications devices to maintain the best condition to manage. Current general traffic management system in a similar terminal device being used, but bimodal tram vehicles operating the computer of the vehicle operates the infrastructure to configure the devices around the one to configure the system in terms of step enhanced the active type, the operating terminal unit of inter active type. In this study, considering the future alignment of the accounting fee system, the expansion of the system reliability and stability around the activities that are underway.

Development of Operation Strategy to improve Efficiency for Twin Automated Transfer Crane in an Automated Container Terminal

  • In order to become a mega hub port, major ports all over the world are making every effort to enhance their productivity through efficiency of internal operation. Accordingly, in order to enhance the competitiveness of a container terminal, an automated container terminal is considered as the best alternative. An automated container terminal is using such automated handling equipment as AGV(Automated Guided Vehicles) and ATC(Automated Transfer Crane). The efficient equipment operation plays a critical role in enhancing the productivity of an automated container terminal. In an automated container terminal, the most important equipments are AGV and ATC. Each block of containers with a vertical layout is generally operating two ATCs. The two ATCs can be crossed or not at each block. In the case of operating crossover ATC, it has an advantage of high flexibility that ATC work is possible at both TP(Transfer Point) of each block. But it has also a disadvantage that the yard has to be operated at a low storage level of containers in the terminal yard. Recently, for automated container terminals, which are being prepared for opening in Korea, they plan to use uncrossed twin ATC in order to make the storage level of their yards high at a low cost. Therefore, studies have to be made in order to increase the efficiency of twin ATC system based on the flexibility that the crossover ATC system has. This research aims to suggest an operation strategy to improve efficiency of twin ATC at each storage block in a yard.

  • 컨테이너 터미널 업무 중 현장 근무가 필요하지 않은 업무를 중심으로 스마트워크 서비스로 대체 할 수 있다. 여기서, 클라우드 서비스는 초기 시스템 구축에 들어가는 비용과 시간을 줄이고, 필요한 만큼 사용료를 지불할 수 있어 중소규모 하역회사에 도움이 된다. 본 연구는 터미널운영시스템에 첨단 ICT를 연계 활용 할 수 있도록 산업 표준을 준수하는 웹서비스 개발에 대한 사례 연구를 소개한다.
