A low-cycle loading experiment of 16 transfer column specimens was conducted to study the influence of parameters, likes the extension length of shape steel, the ratio of shape steel, the axial compression ratio and the volumetric ratio of stirrups, on the shear distribution between steel and concrete, the concrete damage state and the degradation of lateral stiffness. Shear force of shape steel reacted at the core area of concrete section and led to tension effect which accelerated the damage of concrete. At the same time, the damage of concrete diminished its shear capacity and resulted in the shear enlargement of shape steel. The interplay between concrete damage and shear force of shape steel ultimately made for the failures of transfer columns. With the increase of extension length, the lateral stiffness first increases and then decreases, but the stiffness degradation gets faster; With the increase of steel ratio, the lateral stiffness remains the same, but the degradation gets faster; With the increase of the axial compression ratio, the lateral stiffness increases, and the degradation is more significant. Using more stirrups can effectively restrain the development of cracks and increase the lateral stiffness at the yielding point. Also, a formula for calculating the yielding lateral stiffness is obtained by a regression analysis of the test data.

Hybrid Prestressed Precast Concrete System (HPPC system) is a newly developed frame system that can improve the performance of precast concrete (PC) joints by post-tensioning. In particular, the details proposed in this study can reduce the lifting weight of the PC members and eliminate problems caused by cracks in the joints that occur under service loads. This study performed an evaluation on the negative moment performance of full-scaled HPPC girders. The test specimens were cast with or without slabs, with bonded or unbonded tendons, and had different post-tensioned lengths in tensile section. The test results showed that the specimens with slabs had significantly higher stiffness and strength than those without slabs. There were no differences in the flexural behavior between those with bonded or unbonded tendons, and between those with short or long post-tensioned lengths in the negative moment region.
The $I_c$ degradation behavior of critical current in differently processed YBCO and SmBCO CC tapes with IBAD template has been investigated. It has been known that the residual strain in the CC tape will influence the shape of the $I_c$-strain window; $I_c$ may show a peak value if there exist a residual strain induced in the tape during manufacturing. The difference of residual strain may be resulted from the adopted different deposition techniques. In this study, bending test of CC tapes has been done using the Goldacker bending test rig which can produce both compressive and tensile bending strain continuously or alternately to the sample. For SmBCO CC tapes, in continuous compressive bending test, $I_c$ showed a minimal increase and did not degrade up to the largest strain that can be applied using the bending rig equivalent to 1.15% based on the sample thickness. However, in the case of alternate application of compressive and tensile bending strain, $I_c$ showed a larger degradation and a lower reversible limit when compared with the case of continuous application of the bending strain. When $I_c$ started to degrade significantly at the tension side, the reversibility ended, also at the compression side which is resulted from the permanent deformation like delamination or cracks that was induced due to tensile bending strain.

Reinforced concrete structures are an integrated structure in which reinforcing bars are placed on the tensile side of the beam to compensate for concrete that is strong in compression but weak in tension, so that the concrete receives compressive force and the reinforcing bars receive tensile force. It is durable, fire-resistant, economical, and adapts to the shape and dimensions of the structure. It has been widely used for a long time because it can be made freely without restrictions. However, reinforced concrete structures have the disadvantage that cracks occur easily, so they are repaired using a cross-sectional construction method. During this process, problems such as the repair part falling off occurred, so in order to solve the problem, stress changes due to changes in the size of the repair part were examined. As a result, based on the elastic modulus ratio of 1.0, the stress tended to increase as the size of the repair part decreased when it was less than 1.0, and the opposite tendency was seen when it was more than 1.0. This is believed to be due to an increase in the area of the part with a large elastic modulus.

The damage and fracture of machine or structure are caused by the crack happened from the defect existed at the inside of material. The properties of crack propagation and growth characteristic must be considered because there are many cases at which these cracks are densely existed. Therefore, this study investigates the fracture property due to the position of crack and hole inside the standard compact tension (C. T.) specimen. When the concentrated load is applied eccentrically at the standard C. T. specimen, the fracture mechanical behavior due to the existence or non-existence and the position of hole near crack is investigated. As the result of analysis study, model 3 (in case of the distance of 2mm on the horizontal direction between the end part and hole as the specimen model existed with one hole near the crack) has the maximum deformation, stress and deformation energy of the most values among three models. As the distance between the crack and hole inside the specimen becomes nearer, the maximum stress becomes higher in cases of three models. Apart from the number of holes, it is seen that the maximum stress becomes higher near the crack when the hole exists near the crack inside the specimen. If the hole inside the machine or the mechanical structure is punctured by using the result of this study, it is thought that the occurred breakage or breakdown can be prevented by reducing the fracture stress happened at the specimen.
Recently, plane failure mode occurred frequently along the bedding plane having low angle dip about 20 degree when cutting slopes were constructed in sedimentary rock region of the Gyeongsang Basin. Landslide of the Whangryeong Mountain which was occurred at Busan Metropolitan City in 1999 belongs to the category mentioned above. Reconstruction for cutting slope of the Whangryeong Mountain has finished in 2000 and final grade of reconstructed cutting slope is 1:2.0. To analyze slope failure mode for landslide of the Whangryeong Mountain, various analyses were performed such as in-situ investigation and test, drilling, laboratory test, aerial photograph interpretation, X-ray diffraction analysis, and slope stability analysis using Stereographic Projection and Limit Equilibrium methods. As the result, it is identified that tension cracks had been developed one year before the landslide took place. The tension crack semis to be formed by merging several joint sets. It appears that failure blocks broke down along the sliding planes of different layers. Risk of plane failure is conformed as a result of stability analysis using Stereographic Projection and Limit Equilibrium methods in case that greenish gray tuffaceous shales, regared as sliding planes, are weathered. From now on, a detailed investigation is needed for the thin layers which is sensitive to weathering, and stability analysis for this layer is performed at cut slope construction site having similar geological condition.

Purpose: Surface damage and bonding strength difference after micromechanical treatment of zirconia surface are to be studied yet. The aim of this study was to evaluate the difference of fracture resistance and bonding strength between more surface-damaged group from higher air-blasting particle size and pressure, and less damaged group. Materials and Methods: Disk shape zirconia ($LAVA^{TM}$) was sintered and air-blasted with $30{\mu}m$ particle size (Cojet), under 2.8 bar for 15 seconds, $110{\mu}m$ particle size (Rocatec), under 2.8 bar for 15 seconds, and $110{\mu}m$ particle size (Rocatec), under 3.8 bar for 30 seconds respectively. Biaxial flexure test and bonding failure load test were performed serially (n = 10 per group). For bonding test, specimens were bonded on the base material having similar modulus of elasticity of dentin with $200{\mu}m$-thick resin cement for tension of surface damage. Failure load of bonding was detected with acoustic emission (AE) sensor. Results: There were no significant differences both in the biaxial flexure test and bonding failure load test between groups (P > 0.05). Sub-surface cracks were all radial cracks except for two specimens. Conclusion: Within the limitations of no aging under monotonic load test, surface damage from higher air-blasting particle size and pressure was not significant. Evaluations of failure load with bonded zirconia disks was clinically relevant modality for surface damage and bonding strength, simultaneously.
To determine the shallow subsurface structure and sliding surface of land creeping in 2016 at Hadong-gun, Gyeongsangnam-do, geophysical surveys (electric resistivity, and refraction seismic methods, borehole televiewer) and slope stability analysis were conducted. The subsurface structure delineated with borehole lithologies and seismic velocity structures provided the information that the sediment layer on the top of the slope was rather as thick as 20 m and the underlying weathered rock (anorthosite) was thinner than 1 m. Based on the tension cracks observed during the geological mapping, televiewer scanning was performed at the borehole BH-2 and detected the intensive fracture zones at the ground-water level, associated with the slip weak zones mapped in dipole-dipole electrical resistivity section. Downslope sliding and slightly upward pushing at the apex of high resistive bedrock explains the curved slip plane of the land creeping. Such a convex structure might play a role of natural toe abutment for preventing the downward development of slip weak zones. In slope stability analysis, the safety factors of the slip weak zone are calculated with varying the groundwater levels for dry and rainy seasons and the downslope is founded to be unstable with safety factor of 0.89 due to fully saturated material in rainy season.
Silica films were prepared on Si single crystal substrates by a sol-gel process without DMF using TEOS as a starting material. Films were fabricated by spin coating technique. For films having a composition of TEOS : HCI(1:0.05mol), gelation time, the thickness of films, the formation of cracks and the microstructure of the films were investigated as a function of the molar ratio of $CH_3OH and H_2O$. With 8mol $CH_3OH$, the longest gelation time was measured to be 640hr. The thickness of the coated films was decreased with increasing content of $CH_3OH$. The films were sintered at $500^{\circ}C$ for 1hr with a heating rate of $0.6^{\circ}C$/min. The coated films showed worm-like grains and partially cracked microstructures at an amount of $CH_3OH$ 2mol and 4mol. The addition of more than 8 mole of $CH_2OH$ resulted in crack-free silica films. This suggests that crack-free films can be fabricated by controlling the surface tension energy of the sol solutions without DMF.
Excavated archaeological cast iron objects in improper storage are quickly corroded and disintegrated into block and powder finally. Hence desalination treatment which is a way of removing internal corrosive factors, especially chloride ion, is an important process. But desalination is often omitted or objects are dehydrated by alcohol because the destruction of objects could occur during desalting. Although current desalting methods mostly use an aqueous alkali solution, $OH^-$ ions of water could accelerate corrosion and broaden internal cracks cause of high surface tension. Therefore this study experimented desalting using ethyl alcohol, which is low surface tension, to investigate an effect of desalination. As a result, desalting using ethyl alcohol showed the similar or more effective results of desalting using water. In addition, as aspects of desalting safety, ethyl alcohol desalting method was smaller destruction of objects and extraction of Fe from the objects than the aqueous alkali solution. However, this study explored the possibility of desalting methods using organic solvent in fieldwork, so the results would provide basic date for making the safe and effective desalting method for archaeological cast iron objects through further experiments.
