PURPOSES :The objective of this study is to evaluate the performance of asphalt mixtures containing inorganic additive and a high content of reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP). METHODS : The laboratory tests verified the superior laboratory performance of inorganic additive compared to cement, in cold recycled asphalt mixtures. To investigate the moisture susceptibility of the specimens, tensile strength ratio (TSR) tests were performed. In addition, dynamic modulus test was conducted to evaluate the performance of cold recycled asphalt mixture. RESULTS :It was determined that NaOH solution mixed with $Na_2SiO_3$ in the ratio 75:10 provides optimum performance. Compared to Type B and C counterparts, Type A mixtures consisting of an inorganic additive performed better in the Indirect tensile strength test, tensile strength ratio test, and dynamic modulus test. CONCLUSIONS : The use of inorganic additive enhances the indirect strength and dynamic modulus performance of the asphalt mixture. However, additional experiments are to be conducted to improve the reliability of the result with respect to the effect of inorganic additive.

In this paper, for the testing of tensile strength of dead-end clamp used in transmission line, resulting values were estimated by designing and producing the horizontal version of widely-used vertical tensile tester. Tensile strength test of dead-end clamp for transmission line is essential for quality test of products. Moreover, tensile tester is an equipment that requires high level of reliability which needs to be examined through sampling tests commensurate with total inspection. Frames of tensile tester were made up of H-beams so that it can endure more than 20 [tons] of load capability and the test was implemented for 60[seconds] applying five types of tension. In consequence, the tester could withstand up to 21,600[kg] of weight as well as all types of tension. This newly developed horizontal tensile tester can be utilized in figuring out properties of various materials by estimating tensile strength of materials such as metal, rubber and fiber.

The reinforced concrete(RC) beam is developed cracks because the compression strength of concrete is strong but the tensile strength is weak. The structural strength and stiffness is decreased by reduction of tension resistance capacity of concrete due to the developed cracks. Using the fiber reinforced concrete that is increased the flexural strength and tensile strength at tensile part can enhance the strength and stiffness of concrete structure and decrease the tensile flexural cracks and deflection. Therefore, The reinforced concrete used the fiber reinforced concrete at tensile part ensure the safety and serviceability of the concrete structures. In this study, analytical model of a dual concrete beam that is composed of the normal strength concrete at compression part and the high tensile strength concrete at tensile part is developed by using the equilibrium condition of forces and compatibility condition of strains and is parted into elastic analytical model and ultimate analytical model. Three group of test beam that is formed of one reinforced concrete beam and two dual concrete beams for each steel reinforcement ratio is tested to examine the flexural behavior of dual concrete beams. The comparative study of total nine test beams is shown that the ultimate load of a dual concrete beams relative to the reinforced concrete beams have an increase in approximately 30%. In addition, the initial flexural rigidity, as used here, refer to the slope of load-deflection curves in elastic state is increased and the deflection is decreased.
The roughness of substrate concrete interfaces before new concrete placement has a major effect on the interface bond behaviour. However, there are challenges associated with the consistency of the final roughness interface prepared using conventional roughness preparation methods which influences the interface bond performance. In this study, five quantitative interface roughness textures with different roughness tooth angles, depths, and tooth distribution were created to ensure consistency of interface roughness and to evaluate the bond behaviour at a precast and new concrete interface using the splitting tensile test, slant shear test, and double-shear test. In addition, smooth interface specimens and two separate the pitting interface roughness were also utilized. Obtained results indicate that the quantitative roughness has a very limited effect on the interface tensile bond strength if no extra micro-roughness or bonding agent is added at the interface. The roughness method however causes enhanced shear bond strength at the interface. Increased tooth depth improved both the tensile and shear bond strength of the interfaces, while the tooth distribution mainly influenced the shear bond strength. Major failure modes of the test specimens include interface failure, splitting cracks, and sliding failure, and are influenced by the tooth depth and tooth distribution. Furthermore, the interface properties were obtained and presented while a comparison between the different testing methods, in terms of bond strength, was performed.

An experimental program was carried out to investigate the mechanical properties of high-strength concrete. High-strength concrete with compressive strengths of 80 to 120 MPa was tested. Test results are presented regarding effect of water-binder ratio on compressive strength and compressive strength gain. In addition, the effect of curing methods on compressive strength, elastic modulus, splitting tensile strength, and modulus of rupture is investigated. Test results of elastic modulus, splitting tensile strength, and modulus of rupture are compared with predictions from the current design recommendations. Predictions of elastic modulus by using KCI recommendation has good agreement with test results. However, predictions of modulus of rupture by using KCI recommendation underestimate the test results. ACI 363R recommendations predict well test results of splitting tensile strength and modulus of rupture. ACI 363R recommendations for predicting splitting tensile strength and modulus of rupture can be used for high-strength concrete with compressive strengths up to 120 MPa.

As carbon fiber is a light-weight materials, high tensile strength and durability compared with rebar, the retrofitting method for RC structures using carbon fiber sheet (CFS) must be use widely. In this paper, the tensile strength test for carbon fiber sheet variable of CF's weight and elastic modulus to evaluate the design tensile strength of carbon fiber sheet which is needed for the strengthening design of CFS and the calculation of strengthening effect. As a result, the design tensile strength of CFS can be calculate using the effect coefficient of strengthening(α) of CFS, the average tensile strength of CFS and the standard deviation of CFS(equation 5)

Theoretical and experimental study of the unconfined penetration (UP) test was conducted to suggest a new test method (referred to as IUP, Improved Unconfined Penetration) for determination of the tensile strength of compacted sand-bentonite mixtures. The tensile strength of compacted mixtures can be calculated from limit analysis based on the theory of perfect plasticity. The measurement errors in new test method were reduced by improving the UP device. Preliminary experiment results indicate that the tensile strength increases with increasing the disk size, loading rate and pH level. In addition, the disk diameter with 25.4 mm and the loading rate with 0.5%/min~1%/min are most suitable condition for the IUP test. The reliability of IPU test was verified by through the fact that good agreement between the IUP and conventional split tensile test results is observed.
Single fiber fragmentation technique was used to evaluate the change of interfacial properties by degradation of fiber tensile strength in the fiber reinforced composites. The influences of fiber tensile strength on the interfacial properties have been evaluated by the fragmentation specimens(weak fiber samples) of glass fiber/epoxy resin that was made using the pre-degraded glass fiber in distilled water at $80^{circ}C$ for specified periods. The effects of the immersion time on the interfacial properties in the distilled water at $80^{circ}C$ also have been evaluated by the fragmentation specimens(original fiber samples) of glass fiber/epoxy resin that was made using the received glass fiber. As the result, the tensile strength of glass fiber was decreased with the increasing of the treatment time in the distilled water at $80^{circ}C$ and the interfacial shear strength was independent of the change of the glass fiber strength in the single fiber fragmentation test. But in the durability test using the single fiber fragmentation specimen, interfacial shear strength decreased with the increasing of the immersion time in distilled water ar $80^{circ}C$. And it turned out that the evaluating of interfacial shear strength using original fiber tensile strength was valuable in the durability test for the water environment by the single fiber fragmentation technique.
This paper examines the effects of specimen length and grade on the strength and stiffness properties of structural timber of radiata pine. The tensile strength and modulus of elasticity of 1,902 machine-graded boards with 3.15- and 1.62-m clear span lengths, were determined using a horizontal tension test machine. The mean failure and characteristic stress values for tensile strength show an extremely high dependency on test specimen length. The mean and characteristic values of both modulus of elasticity and tensile strength show significant dependency on machine stress grades.
In this study, high temperature tensile properties of high tensile strength steels(POSTEN60, POSTEN80) were investigated by elevated temperature tensile test. According toe the results, high temperature tensile strength of POSTEN60 deteriorated slowly to 100$^{\circ}C$. As the temperature went up the tensile strength became better because of blue shortness and it deteriorated radically after reached to the maximum value around 300$^{\circ}C$. For the POSTEN80, high temperature tensile strength deteriorated slowly to 200$^{\circ}C$.As the temperature went up the tensile strength became better and it deteriorated slowly to 600$^{\circ}C$ after reached to the maximum value around 300$^{\circ}C$. Strain of high tensile strength steels at the elevated temperature increased radically after the mercury rose to 600$^{\circ}C$. The strain hardening ratio of POSTEN60 was larger then that of POSTEN80 at the elevated temperature as in the case at the room temperature and it became smaller radically after the mercury rose to 400$^{\circ}C$.
