An Experimental Study on the Atmospheric Corrosion and Fatigue of SS490A and SS400 (SM490A와 SS400의 대기부식 및 피로강도의 실험적 연구)

  • For structural design and diagnosis, quantitative relationship between corrosive degradation and variation of mechanical properties such as tensile strength and fatigue strength is needed. But it is difficult to find data associated with corrosive degradation of structural structures. In this study, first of all we established the atmospheric corrosion test procedure. And using specimens of SM490A and SS400 on the atmospheric corrosion test bed, we carried out tensile and fatigue tests at regular intervals. And we studied the effect of post-weld heat treatment on the tensile and fatigue behaviour. It is found fatigue strength decreases as the atmospheric corrosion period increases.

  • In general, structural integrity of rolling stock structures should last more than 25 years. During the lifetime corrosive degradation occurs. For structural design and diagnosis, quantitative relationship between corrosive degradation and variation of mechanical properties such as tensile strength and fatigue strength is needed. In this study, first of all we established the atmospheric corrosion test procedure. At regular intervals using specimens of SM490A and SS400 on the atmospheric corrosion test bed, we carried out tensile and fatigue tests. The fatigue strength decreases as the atmospheric corrosion period increases. And we studied the effect of post-weld heat treatment on the tensile and fatigue behaviour.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the thermal embrittlement and the mechanical properties of 2.25Cr-1Mo steel aged at high temperature for the extended periods. Original, aged artificiall y and used material were tested to obtain the tensile strength, hardness and impact absorbed energy. Tensile strength, hardness and impact absorbed energy decreased with the increasing aging time. The carbide morphology with the thermal embrittlement was found to contribute to the mechanical property change by X-Ray diffraction method.

  • In recent years, there has been a growth of the manufacture and application of magnesium products because of its small specific gravity as well as its relatively high strength. However, there are so many studies to assure good formability because magnesium sheet alloy is difficult to form. In this study, uniaxial tensile and biaxial tensile test of AZ31 magnesium sheet alloy with thickness of 1.2mm were performed at room temperature. Uniaxial tensile test were performed until $7\%$ of engineering strain. R-values and stress-strain curve were obtained. Biaxial tensile tests with cruciform specimen were performed until the breakdown of the specimen occurs. The yield loci are made by application of plastic work theory. The results are compared with the theoretical predictions based on the Hill and Logan-Hosford model. However, next study will be performed at warm-temperature because the specimens are broken under the $0.5\%$ of equivalent strain at biaxial tensile test.

  • In this panel test, the toughness and post-cracking tensile strength of SFRC(Steel Fiber Reinforced Concrete) measured on 24 panels(size; 60cm $\times$ 60cm $\times$ 10cm) which are the basic characteristics than can determine the load bearing capacity of SFRC are investigated. Those values are calculated using load-deflection curves and load-absorbed energy curves. Post-cracking tensile strength of SFRC in this study are determined by yield line theory. From the test results, it is seen that the higher the volume of steel fiber is, the higher the absorbed energy is.

A Proposal of Tensile Strength Prediction Models Considering Unit Weight of Concrete (콘크리트의 기건 단위질량을 고려한 인장강도 예측모델 제안)

  • The present study evaluates the validity of different equations specified in code provisions and proposed by the existing researchers to predict the concrete tensile capacities (direct tensile strength, splitting tensile strength and modulus of rupture) using a comprehensible database including 361 lightweight concrete (LWC), 1,335 normal-weight concrete (NWC) and 221 heavy-weight concrete (HWC) specimens. Most of the equations express the concrete tensile strengths as a function of its compressive strength based on the limited NWC concrete test data. However, the present database shows that the concrete tensile capacities are significantly affected by its unit weight as well. As a result, the inconsistency between experiments and predictions by the different models increases when the concrete unit weight is below 2,100 kg/$m^3$ and concrete compressive strength is above 50 MPa. On the other hand, new models proposed by the present study considering the concrete unit weight predict the tensile strengths of concrete with more accuracy.

A Study on Examination of Application in Waste Filled Land and Performance Evaluation as Waterproofing Material by the Spray Water-Soluble Rubber Asphalt (뿜칠형 수용성 고무화 아스팔트 차수재의 성능평가 및 폐기물 매립지 적용성 검토에 관한 연구)

  • This study examinated the application in construction field and the development of waterproofing material system by the spray water-soluble rubber asphalt to solve the problems of synthetic polymer sheet and gio membrane(A mat sheet of Bentonite) that had been used domestic waterproofing material in advance. As the result of study, characters of study water-soluble rudder asphalt are the follows: 1) The amount of water absorption was '0.06'g and the seepage quality was '0'g in result. 2) The tensile strength was about 30.7kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2 and the elongation was about 72.4% in result. 3) After reliance of temperature test had been ended, the tensile strength was about 72.4kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2 in low temperature and about 30.7kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2 in normal temperature. 4) After acid and alkaline treatment had been ended, the tensile strength was about 19.7kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$ and about 21.9kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2 in result. 5) After chlorine ion treatment had been ended, the tensile strength was 28.5kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$ and the elongation was 250% in result. 6) The impact performance was subsided at 1.5m height. 7) After promotion weathering had been ended, the tensile and elongation was about 26.0kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2, 214% in result. So, this study can propose the spray water-soluble rubber asphalt to satisfy the and durability of waste filled land.

  • Strength change of an over-aged A12024 material was studied after being subjected to stages of severe plastic deformation by ECAP (Equal Channel Angular Pressing). Various kinds of strength value were measured using the conventional tensile test, Rockwell and Vickers hardness and the SP (small punch) test Due to limitation of the specimen size, tension test in transverse direction could not be conducted. Hence, SP test was employed for assessing the strength in transverse direction. Based on TEM observation the measured strength characteristics were explained based on the relation between microstructure, dislocation and strength. As the number of ECAP pass increases, the strength of A12024 was also increased. However, considerable change of strength, which is generally predicted, was not observed in this study. For the strength in transverse direction even decrease of the strength was observed after 6 passes of ECAP. It was argued that this decrease was due to dynamic recovery of dislocation density during or after ECAP processes at $150^{\circ}C$. The strength assessment equation proposed by the authors in the previous paper was shown to be very accurate. This argument was supported by comparing the results of conventional tensile test with those of SP test. It was also pointed that the Rockwell har(3ness value seemed to be able to represent the strength in the transverse direction.

Effect of Annealing on the Improvement of Strength of Butt Welded Joint (맞대기 이음용접의 강도향상을 위한 어니일링 효과에 관한 연구)

  • This paper presents the effect of stress relief annealing on mechanical properties in single Vee-groove welding joint. In this experiment, the investigation of annealing effect on mechanical properties of test material carried out by changing the annealing temperature from $600^{\circ}C$ to $900^{\circ}C$ under the given conditions. The results pbtained by this study are as follows: (1) Under the constant welding conditions, the tensile strength of test welded joint decrease in accordance with the increase of annealing temperature. The experimental results show that the reduction rate of tensile strength is about 35.09% of base metal strength. (2) Microhafdness distribution of welded joint bring about the maximum hardness near the bended line of welding joint. (3) Izod impact energy of welded joint in increase in according to the rise of annealing temperature and the peak energy of impact test occurs at $800^{\circ}C$

  • Behavior of saw-dust concrete has not studied because many people have thought that saw-dust concrete cannot be applicable for structural member, up to now. This study is to findout how much the concrete can be structurally applicated. 5mm grid sieve was used to select satisfactory sawdust for better concrete quality. Test molds size of ${\phi}10{\times}20cm$ long were made of normal without sawdust, 0.05%, 0.1%, 0.2%, 0.4%, 0.6%, 0.8%, 1.0%, 1.2%, 1.4%, 1.6%, 1.8% 2.0%, for making concrete strengh of 180kg, 210kg, 240kg, 270kg which they are normally used in practice presently. A various strengths tests such as compressive splitting tensile, flexible strength behavior of structural member named beam using size of $20{\times}30{\times}120cm$ have been done for the structural aspects. Tensile strength shows that it can be more affected than higher strength of it.
