The purpose of this study is to investigate fatigue phenomema of woven fabric. In order to obtain the basic data which is available for predicting the fabric fatigue phenomena, the change of mechanical properties of woven fabrics caused by the wearing and the changes of mechanical properties of woven fabrics which were subjected to repeated tensile-shearing deformation using fabric testing machine has been investigated and compared. The fatigue of woven fabrics was examined with the value of basic mechanical properties of specimens measured by the KES-F fabric testing system and their hand value and wearing ability. The results were as follows. 1) The fatigue phenomena of woven fabrics by the wearing for 800 hours are different on the position of the body: On the portion of hip, the change of surface property was the greatest, bending hysterisis was greatly increased, thickness weight, stiffness, fullness shearing hysterisis were more increased than original fabric and T.H.V. was decreased. On the portion of knee, decreasing of tensile resilience and increasing of bending, shearing hysterisis were observed greater than any other part, and increasing of stiffness, crispness was more than original fabric. On the bottom area, the changes of mechanical property was comparatively small, H.V. and T.H.V. showed near the value of the original fabric. 2) By drycleaning most of mechanical properties showed the tendency to recover the value of the original fabric, but bending hysterisis and thickess were increased, tensile and com-pression resilience were decreased more than original fabric in all parts. 3) The fatigue phenomena caused by fabric fatigue testing machine were as follows. The decreasing of hystersis in the repeated deformation such as bending, shearing was appeared at the $10^2$ deformation, but with the increasing cycle, the tendency was slightly regained. Handle value was also appeared the lowest value at the $10^2$ deformation.
Peach skin fabrics were washed by the general and ultrasonic washing systems using different conditions. The physical properties of the washed fabrics were estimated. The following results were obtained through experimental data and their analysis. The tensile properties were changed due to fabric running speed and washing methods. The lower the running speed, the higher the extensibility and resilience and the lower the linearity and tensile energy. In the general washing method, the extensibility and resilience had lower values than those of the ultrasonic washing method and the linearity and tensile energy had the higher values than those of the ultrasonic washing system. The bending properties, bending moment and histeresis, were estimated. These values were generally lower in the ultrasonic washing system than those of the general washing system. The faster the washing speed, the higher the value of hysterisis. The shear properties were affected by the fabric running speed and washing methods. Shear stiffness and hysteresis of shear forces increased according to the increase of the fabric running speed. The values were higher in the general washing system than those of the ultrasonic washing system. The compressional energy was affected by the fabric running speed. The higher the fabric speed the higher the compressional energy. The ultrasonic washing system had lower compressional energy than the general washing system. The higher the running speed, the lower the coefficient of friction and geometrical roughness. The values of geometrical roughness were infienced by the removal of the sizing agent. The higher the remaining sizing agent, the higher the fabric weight and the thicker the thickness of fabric.
The UV-protection effect of green-tea dyed fabrics was reported in our previous studies. The chitosan was used as a natural mordant of cellulose fiber for green tea extract because chitosan is a natural bio-polymer. The increase in the UV protection property of summer cellulose fabrics, cotton and linen, upon the repetition of chitosan mordanting and green tea dyeing was observed. However, the physical property change would be followed by this repeated wet processing of the cellulose fabric. Therefore, the physical changes of the chitosan mordanted and green tea dyed cotton and linen fabrics were evaluated by KES-FB system. Tensile, shear, bending, compression, and surface characteristics were tested upon the repetition of mordanting and dyeing treatments. Linearity of tensile force increased in the treated cotton and linen samples. Tensile energy and resilience decreased in all treated fabrics. Shear stiffness increased in the treated cotton and linen in general. Shear hysteresis was increased in all cotton samples and some linen samples. In cotton, the bending rigidity in all treated cottons increased except C3G3. As the chitosan mordanting numbers increased, the bending rigidity tended to decrease. In linen, the bending rigidity and hysteresis increased in all treated samples. Compressional energy and resilience increased as the number of chitosan mordanting increased both in cotton and linen. This could be the result of the increase in thickness upon chitosan mordanting. Surface coefficient of friction increased in the treated cotton and linen in general. Surface roughness tended to increase in cotton.
An airless tire has advantages over the conventional pneumatic tire in terms of flat proof and maintenance free. According to the recently disclosed inventions on the airless tire, non-pneumatic tire (NPT) consists of the flexible polygon spokes. Considering the NPT structure, the spokes undergo the tension-compression cyclic loading while the tire rolls. Therefore the spokes of NPT are required to have both stiffness and resilience under the cyclic tensile-compressible loading. In general, if a material has a high stiffness, it shows a low elastic strain limit. In this paper, using the auxetic honeycomb structure with negative poissons's ratio, the spokes of NPT tire are designed to have both stiffness and resilience. Finite element based numerical simulation of the contact pressure of a NPT is carried out with ABAQUS.
The effects of DP finishing conditions including process technique and finishing agent on the mechanical properties and hand of cotton fabrics were investigated. 100% cotton fabrics were treated with NMA/DMDHEU and NMA/YF using wet-fixation and steam-fixation process. For comparison, conventional pad-dry-cure process was used with DMDHEU. After DP finishing, tensile and compressional resilience increased and bending hysteresis decreased, resulting in the improvement of dimensional stability of cotton fabric. WF and SF process rendered fabrics better shear properties, tensile energy, and compressional linearity and energy than PDC process. However, SF process produced fabrics with higher geometrical roughness than WF process. After DP finishing, primary hand values except Koshi increased, resulting in the increase of total hand value of cotton fabric.
The purpose of this study is to get comparitive results on the combined accelerator systems comprised of MBT, MBTS, DPG and CBS with TMTD, TMTM and Zn-MDC to SBR compound. Vulcanization characterstics and physical properties of the combined accelerators have been studied by means of the Mooney viscometer, the Monsanto disc rheometer, tensile testing machine, aging chamber and so on. According to the test results, DPG, MBT and Zn-MDC system have show faster Mooney scorch time and optimum cure time than other systems. The Vulcanizate comprise of DPG, MBT and TMTD accelerator system has taken adventage of tensile strength, elongation, 100% modulus, resilience, compresion set.
Cotton fabrics were finished with mixture of BTCA and silicone by pad-dry-cure process to achieve better mechanical properties than those of finished with BTCA alone. The changes of mechanical properties o( finished cotton fabrics were measured with by the KES-FB System and the hand values were calculated from the data of mechanical properties. With the durable press finish with BTCA tensile, bending, shear and compression properties increased. In hand values, Stiffness Crispness and Anti-Drape Stiffness increased, and Fullness & Softness decreased. Whereas silicone treatment reduced bending and shear properties and improved tensile and compressional resilience. Thus, Stiffness Crispness and Anti-Drape Stiffness decreased, and Fullness & Softness increased. These results indicated that BTCA treatment restricts fiber/yarn mobility in the fabric structure due to crosslinking, but silicone treatment reduces inter-fiber and inter-yarn frictional forces. Therefore, finish with mixture of BTCA and silicone provided cotton fabrics with a lower Stiffness, Crispness and Anti-Drape Stiffness and a higher Fullness & Softnesss than finish with BTCA alone.

The practical application of REBCO coated conductor (CC) tapes, vital for energy transmission (e.g., cable application) and high-field magnets (e.g., coil application), necessitates efficient and simple quality assessment procedures. This study introduces a systematic approach to assess the electromechanical properties of REBCO CC tapes under 77 K and self-field conditions. The approach involves customized tensile and bending tests that clarify the critical current (Ic) response of the CC tapes under mechanical loads induced by tension and bending. This study measures the retained Ic values of commercially available GdBCO CC tapes under 250 MPa tensile stress and 40 mm bending diameter. Through experimentation, the study demonstrates the resilience of these tapes and their suitability for applications. By presenting a simplified stress-based analysis and a bending test of the tapes, the study contributes to effective quality assessment methods for the development of practical superconducting products.
This study is to evaluate the objective sensibility of the commercial lining fabrics. Five kinds of the linings were collected by adding taffetas with four kinds of fibers (polyester, nylon, rayon, and acetate) to one polyester stretch fabric. The six basic mechanical and hand properties were studied by using KES-FB system (Kawabata Evaluation System). The result of measuring the mechanical properties shows that polyester has high bending rigidity (B), that polyester-stretch has a high value of linearity of load-extension curve (LT), tensile energy (WT), tensile resilience (RT), and coefficient of friction (MIU) and a low value of bending rigidity(B), shear property, and geometrical roughness (SMD). The nylon has a high value of bending rigidity (B), shear property, and compression resilience (RC). The rayon has a high value of coefficient of friction (MIU) and linearity of compression-thickness curve (LC) and a low value of shear property, and the acetate has a low value of shear property. The result of hand value shows that polyester, nylon, and acetate are a high value of KOSHI (stiffness), NUMERI (smoothness), and FUKURAM (fullness & softness), and they feel stiff and massive, that rayon has a low value of NUMERI and FUKURAMI. The total result of hand value shows that polyester taffeta and polyester stretch fabric are about the same as the best material for the lining of a woman's dress for spring and summer, and the next thing is acetate, but nylon and rayon are somewhat inferior materials. This provides a fundamental data for the comfortable clothing production of a higher value-added product through the study on the mechanical and hand properties of the lining as well as the right side of fabrics.
