  • The TRIP behavior in tensile deformation of retained austenite formed by reverse transformation treatment in 0.15%C-6%Mn-(Ti, Nb) steels has been investigated. The shape of retained austenite was almost a fine lath type with $0.1{\sim}0.3{\mu}m$ width and the two distinctly different transformation sequences of retained austenite, i) retained austenite${\rightarrow}$martensite and ii) retained austenite${\rightarrow}$deformation twin${\rightarrow}$martensite were revealed. The strength-elongation combination was increased with increasing the holdig time at low temperatures ($625^{\circ}C$) but decreased abruptly with increasing holding time at high temperatures ($675^{\circ}C$), owing to the lowering of ductility. The strength-elongation combination and TRIP effect was lower in tensile deformation in the range of $100{\sim}250^{\circ}C$ than room temperature. The tensile strengh and elongation of a reverse transformed steels with addition of Ti or Nb was 93kg/, 40% respectively, which is higher over 10% of strength without ductility loss than in 0.15%C-6%Mn steels.

  • Fatigue tests were carried out at high temperature on a Cr-Mo-V steel in order to assess the fatigue life of components used in power plants. The characteristics of high temperature fatigue were divided in terms of cycle-dependent fatigue and time-dependent fatigue, each crack propagation rate was examined with respect to fatigue J-integral range, .DELTA. J$_{f}$and creep J-integral range, .DELTA. J$_{c}$. The fatigue life was evaluated by analysis of J-integral value at the crack tip with a dimensional finite element method. The results obtained from the present study are summarized as follows : The propagation characteristics of high temperature fatigue cracks are determined by .DELTA. J$_{f}$for the PP(tensile plasticity-compressive plasticity deformation) and PC(tensile plasticity - compressive creep deformation) stress waveform types, and by .DELTA. J$_{c}$for the CP(tensile creep- compressive plasticity deformation) stress waveform type. The crack propagation law of high temperature fatigue is obtained by analysis of J-integral value at the crack tip using the finite element method and applied to examine crack propagation behavior. The fatigue life is evaluated using the results of analysis by the finite element method. The predicted life and the actual life are close, within a factor of 2.f 2.f 2.

  • The effects of immersion time in the liquid nitrogen and deformation-induced martensitic transformation on the behavior of austenite stainless steels used for the hydrogen storage tank of auto-mobile at cryogenic temperature were investigated. With increasing of immersion time in the liquid nitrogen, the tensile strength of all austenite stainless steels at cryogenic temperature was increased because the martensite transformation of unstable austenite. The restraint of crack generation ana transmission also increased the tensile strength by the active ${\alpha}'$ transformation. The elongation decreasing of 321 steel is not the mechanical deformation of austenite phase but the stress induced martensite phase during the tensile test.

  • Thermal spray coating is formed by a process in which melted particles flying with high speed towards substrate, then crash and spread on the substrate surface cooled and solidified in a very short time, Stacking of the particles makes coating. In this study, the exfoliation of $Al_2$O$_3$ and Ni-4.5wt.%Al thermally sprayed coating which were deposited by an atmospheric plasma spray apparatus are investigated using an AE method. A tensile test is conducted on notch specimens in a stress range below the elastic limit of substrate. The wave forms of AE generated from the three coating specimens can be classified by FFT analysis into two types which low frequency(type I waveform is considered to corresponds exfoliation of coating layers and type II waveform corresponds the plastic deformation of notch tip or the resultant fracture of coating. The fracture of the coating layers can estimate by AE event and amplitude, because AE features increase when the deformation generates.

  • For the practical use of a superconducting wire to magnet application, it is important to assess the Young modulus and other mechanical properties of HTS tapes. In order to establish a test method of mechanical properties for oxide composite superconductors. tensile tests of Bi-2223 multi- filamentary tapes were carried out at room temperature, as an activity of the International round robin test proposed by the committee of VAMAS/TWA 16-Subrgroup. The tapes consisting of mutli-filamentary showed a three stage tensile behavior. At the initial stage of the stress-streain curve. The elastic deformation existed in a quite nattrow strain region. But the plastic deformation was observed in a wide strain region due to the platic flow of the Ag alloy matrix. The results of RRT were also reported and discussed.

  • The tensile properties of GFRP(glass fiber reinforced polymer) rods with various surface deformation produced by RTM(resin transfer molding) process were analyzes experimentally. Two types of GFRP rods with different surface deformation manufactured by RTM process in domestic area and two types of GFRP rods imported were considered in this study. All testing procedures including specimens preparation, set-up of test equipments and measuring devices were made according to the ASTM D3916-02 recommendations. From the test results, it was found that wave-type GFRP rod made by RTM process showed the highest tensile strength due to the highest fiber volume ratio.

  • This paper presents the influence of the compositions of sintered Ti-Ni alloys on their thermo-mechanical properties. The Ti-Ni alloys having various compositions from 50at%Ni to 51at%Ni were sintered using elemental Ti and Ni powders by a pulse-current pressure sintering equipment. The deformation resistance in stress-strain curves increased with an increase in Ni content. In the case of Ti-50at%Ni, tensile strength and elongation were more than 500 MPa and 7%, respectively. The increase in Ni content also makes the transformation temperatures lower. The deformation resistance at a test temperature change from 293K and 353K in isothermal tensile test increased with elevating test temperature.

  • In order to analyze the forming characteristics of laser welded tailored blanks, laser welded blanks of different thickness and strength combinations were prepared and tensile, stretching, stretch flanging and deep drawing tests were done. The tensile elongation perpendicular to the weld line, stretching and stretch flanging formability decreased with increasing the deformation restraining force (strength ${\times}$ thickness) ratio between two welded sheets. The tensile elongation along weld line reached a value above 90% of the single sheet's elongation. Stretch flanging formability was reduced to approximately 10% of the single sheet value when the deformation restraining force ratio between two welded sheets was increased to two. Weld line movement of deep drawing test specimens was also affected by the strength ratio of the combined sheets, the weld line location and forming conditions. In all forming modes of tailored blanks, excessive weld line movement resulted from strain concentrations at the weaker sheet and resulted in fracture of the weaker side.

  • A series of load relaxation tests was performed to determine stress-strain rate curves at high temperatures. Constitutive parameters of GBS and GMD were evaluated from the curves using the recently proposed inelastic deformation theory. Tensile tests and Microsturcture investigations showed deformation behavior as the relaxation test results predicted.
