  • The Zopheridae Solier consisting of members from three previous families, Zopherinae Solier, Monommatinae Blanchard and Colydiinae Erichson, is considered the taxonomically most challenging group, and comprises more than 1,700 described species worldwide. The members of Zopheridae represent diverse morphological variations, and are difficult to separate morphologically from other tenebrionoid families. Two Zopheridae genera, Colobicus Latreille and Lasconotus Erichson, are identified for the first time in Korea, and two wood-boring species, C. hirtus (Rossi) and L. niponicus (Lewis), are newly reported in the Korean fauna. A key to the genera of Korean Zopheridae, and diagnoses, habitus photographs, and illustrations of diagnostic characters of the two species are provided.

  • The family Ciidae is presented for the first time from Korea. Two unrecorded species, Octotemnus laminifrons (Motschulsky) and Octotemnus japonicus Miyatake are reported. Morphological photographs of adults, description, illustrations of diagnostic characteristics, and host fungi are provided.

  • The family Zopheridae Solier consist of members from several previous families, Zopherinae Solier, Monommatinae Blanchard and Colydiinae Erichson, and more than 1,700 described species are placed in the Zopheridae. They are widely distributed in all major biogeographical regions. The zopheridine genus Bitoma Herbst comprise more than 30 species worldwide including four Palaearctic species. A taxonomic study of the genus Bitoma in Korea is presented. The genus Bitoma and its two species, B. crenata (Fabricius) and B. siccana (Pascoe), are new to the Korean Peninsula. A key, diagnoses, habitus photographs, and illustrations of aedeagus of the Korean Bitoma species are provided.

  • The family Tetratomidae Billberg occurs in most parts of the world but many species are discovered from Australia and New Zealand. The family contains 13 genera and over 150 described species in five subfamilies, Eustrophinae, Hallomeninae, Penthinae, Piseninae and Tetratominae. Among the eustrophine genera, a genus Eustrophus Illiger includes four species in the Holartic region including three Palaearctic species, E. dermestoides (Fabricius), E. niponicus Lewis and E. yunnanensis Nikitsky. In this study, the genus Eustrophus and its a single species, E. niponicus, are newly discovered from the Korean fauna. A diagnosis, habitus photographs and illustrations of diagnostic characters including aedeagus of the species are provided.

  • The family Ciidae, commonly known as minute tree-fungus beetles, encompasses approximately 640 species distributed among 43 genera, classified into two subfamilies(Ciinae and Sphidociinae). In South Korea, total 13 species in five genera are known: Cis boleti(Scopoli), C. hieroglyphicus Reitter, C. jezoensis Nobuchi, C. mikagensis Nobuchi & Wada, C. sasajii Kawanabe, C. seriatopilosus Motschulsky, Ennearthron chujoi Nakane & Nobuchi, E. ishiharai Miyatake, E. robusticorne Kawanabe, Neoennearthron bicarinatum Miyatake, Octotemnus japonicus Miyatake, O. laminifrons (Motschulsky), and Xylographus scheerpeltzi Nobuchi. In this study, two Ciidae species, Cis japonicus Nobuchi, 1955 and Orthocis nigrosplendidus(Nobuchi, 1955), are reported for the first time in the Korean Peninsula. Diagnoses of two species, habitus photographs of adult and male genitalia are provided.

  • The Genus Cis Latreille known as fungivorous ciids is taxonomically reviewed for the first time from Korea. Six unrecorded species - Cis boleti (Scopoli, 1763); Cis seriatopilosus Motschulsky, 1861; Cis mikagensis Nobuchi & Wada, 1955; Cis jezoensis Nobuchi, 1960; Cis sasajii Kawanabe, 2001; Cis hieroglyphicus Reitter, 1877- are present. All of Cis members are associated with the fruiting body of higher fungi. The author provides the taxonomical information and the ecological information on the host fungi of the Korean Cis species.
