This paper presents an efficient method for generating spatiotemporal images in order to detect leukocyte motion in microvessels. Leveraging the constraint that leukocytes move along the contour line of the blood vessel wall, our proposed method efficiently generates spatiotemporal images for leukocyte motion detection. To that end, translational motion caused by in vivo movement is first removed by a template matching method. Second, the blood vessel region is detected by an automatic threshold selection method in order to binarize temporal variance images. Then, the contour of the blood vessel wall is expressed via B-spline function. Finally, using the detected blood vessel wall's contour as an initial curve, the plasma layer for the most accurate position is determined in order to find the spatial axis via snake, and the spatiotemporal images are generated. Experimental results show that the spatiotemporal images are generated effectively through comparison of each step with three images.
Fires are the most common disaster and early fire detection is of great importance to minimize the consequent damage. Simple sensors including smoke detectors are widely used for the purpose but they are able to sense fires only at close proximity. Recently, due to the rapid advances of relevant technologies, vision-based fire sensing has attracted growing attention. In this paper, a novel visual sensing technique to automatically detect fire is presented. The proposed technique consists of multiple steps of image processing: pixel-level, block-level, and frame level. At the first step, fire flame pixel candidates are selected based on their color values in YIQ space from the image of a camera which is installed as a vision sensor at a fire scene. At the second step, the dynamic parts of flames are extracted by comparing two consecutive images. These parts are then represented in regularly divided image blocks to reduce pixel-level detection error and simplify following processing. Finally, the temporal change of the detected blocks is analyzed to confirm the spread of fire. The proposed technique was tested using real fire images and it worked quite reliably.

Additional high resolution satellite images, other period or site, are essential for efficient city modeling and analysis. However, the same ground objects have a radiometric inconsistency in different satellite images and it debase the quality of image processing and analysis. Moreover, in an urban area, buildings, trees, bridges, and other artificial objects cause shadow effects, which lower the performance of relative radiometric normalization. Therefore, in this study, we exclude shadow areas and suggest the selective histogram matching methods for image based application without supplementary digital elevation model or geometric informations of sun and sensor. We extract the shadow objects first using adjacency informations with the building edge buffer and spatial and spectral attributes derived from the image segmentation. And, Outlier objects like a asphalt roads are removed. Finally, selective histogram matching is performed from the shadow masked multi-temporal Quickbird-2 images.

In this paper, a temporal color and luminance variation suppression algorithm for a digital video sequence is proposed by considering time-varying light source. When a video sequence is sampled with the periodically emitting illuminant and with a short exposure time, the color rolling phenomenon occurs, where the color and the luminance of the image periodically change from field to field. In conventional signal processing techniques, the luminance variation remaining in the resultant video sequence degrades the constancy of the image sequence. In the proposed method, we obtain video sequences with constant luminance and color by compensating for the inter-field luminance variation. Based on a motion detection technique, the amount of the luminance variation for each channel is estimated on the background of the sequence without the effects of moving objects. The experimental results clearly show that our strategy efficiently estimated the illuminant change without being affected by moving objects, and the variations were efficiently reduced.
Since motion estimation and motion compensation methods remove the redundant data to employ the temporal redundancy in images, it plays an important role in digital video compression. Because of its high computational complexity, however, it is difficult to apply to high-resolution applications in real time environments. If we have information about the motion of an image block before the motion estimation, the location of a better starting point for the search of an exact motion vector can be determined to expedite the searching process. In this paper, we present an adaptive motion estimation approach bated on temporal correlations of consecutive image frames that defines the search pattern and determines the location of the initial search point adaptively. Through experiments, compared with DS(Diamond Search) algorithm, the proposed algorithm is about 0.1∼0.5(dB) better than DS in terms of PSNR(Peak Signal to Noise Ratio) and improves as high as 50% compared with DS in terms of average number of search point per motion vector estimation.

Purpose: The overall objective of this study was to evaluate the vegetation fraction of soybeans, grown under different cropping conditions using an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) equipped with a red, green, and blue (RGB) camera. Methods: Test plots were prepared based on different cropping treatments, i.e., soybean single-cropping, with and without herbicide application and soybean and barley-cover cropping, with and without herbicide application. The UAV flights were manually controlled using a remote flight controller on the ground, with 2.4 GHz radio frequency communication. For image pre-processing, the acquired images were pre-treated and georeferenced using a fisheye distortion removal function, and ground control points were collected using Google Maps. Tarpaulin panels of different colors were used to calibrate the multi-temporal images by converting the RGB digital number values into the RGB reflectance spectrum, utilizing a linear regression method. Excess Green (ExG) vegetation indices for each of the test plots were compared with the M-statistic method in order to quantitatively evaluate the greenness of soybean fields under different cropping systems. Results: The reflectance calibration methods used in the study showed high coefficients of determination, ranging from 0.8 to 0.9, indicating the feasibility of a linear regression fitting method for monitoring multi-temporal RGB images of soybean fields. As expected, the ExG vegetation indices changed according to different soybean growth stages, showing clear differences among the test plots with different cropping treatments in the early season of < 60 days after sowing (DAS). With the M-statistic method, the test plots under different treatments could be discriminated in the early seasons of <41 DAS, showing a value of M > 1. Conclusion: Therefore, multi-temporal images obtained with an UAV and a RGB camera could be applied for quantifying overall vegetation fractions and crop growth status, and this information could contribute to determine proper treatments for the vegetation fraction.

Circle detection has long been studied as one of fundamental image processing applications. It is used in divers areas including industrial inspection, medial image analysis, radio astronomy data analysis, and other object recognition applications. The most widely used class of circle detection techniques is the circle Hough transform and its variants. Management of 3 dimensional parameter histogram used in these methods brings about spatial and temporal overheads, and a lot of studies have dealt the problem. This paper proposes a robust circle detection method using maximal symmetry property of circle. The basic idea is that if perpendicular bisectors of pairs of edges are accumulated in image space, center of circle is determined to be the location of highest accumulation. However, directly implementing the idea in image space requires a lot of calculations. The method of this paper reduces the number of calculations by mapping the perpendicular bisectors into parameter space, selecting small number of parameters, and mapping them inversely into image space. Test on 22 images shows the calculations of the proposed method is 0.056% calculations of the basic idea. The test images include simple circles, multiple circles with various sizes, concentric circles, and partially occluded circles. The proposed method detected circles in various situations successfully.

This paper propose a temporal histogram -based behavior pattern analysis algorithm to analyze the movement features of moving objects from the image inputted in real-time. For the purpose of tracking and analysis of moving objects, it needs to be performed background learning which separated moving objects from the background. Moving object is extracted as a background learning after identifying the object by using the center of gravity and the coordinate correlation is performed by the object tracking. The start frame of each of the tracked object, the end frame, the coordinates information and size information are stored and managed by the linked list. Temporal histogram defines movement features pattern using x, y coordinates based on time axis, it compares each coordinates of objects for understanding its movement features and behavior pattern. Behavior pattern analysis system based on temporal histogram confirmed high tracking rate over 95% with sustaining high processing speed 45~50fps through the demo experiment.
This paper describes a multimedia synchronization model based on the MPEG-4(Moving Picture Expert Group) system. It defines and modifies new nodes for representing temporal relationships between media objects in the BIFS(Binary Format for Scene) of MPEG-4 system which Integrates, manages and transfers multimedia objects such as audio, video, image, etc. The relationships are represented by using a multimedia temporal model during the start, play and delay time interval. In addition, we illustrate a multimedia authoring system that includes the Interface used for defining the temporal relationships. Differently from several contentional tools generally appropriate for professional users who can edit the BIFS nodes of themselves, the system provides end-users with the function that can define the temporal relationships of multimedia objects directly in the interface.

An effective algorithm for implementation of unmanned surveillance system which detects moving object from image sequences, predicts the direction of it, and drives the camera in real time is proposed. Outputs of proposed algorithm are coordinates of location of moving object, and they are converted to the values according to camera model. As a pre- processing, extraction of moving object and shape discrimination are performed. Existence of the moving object or scene change is detected by computing the temporal derivatives of consecutive two or more images in a sequence, and this result of derivatives is combined with the edge map from one original gray level image to obtain the position of moving object. Shape discri-mination(Target identification) is performed by analysis of distribution of projection profiles in x and y directions. To reduce the prediction error due to the fact that the motion cha- racteristic of walking man may have an abrupt change of moving direction, an order adaptive lattice structured linear predictor is proposed.
