Dry noodles were prepared with wheat flour and immature Rubes coreanus (Bogbunja) powder, and the effects of added immature bogbunja powders on dough rheology and noodle quality were examined. Particle size distribution of immature bogbunja powder ranged from 0.04 to $500\;{\um}m$, which was different from that of wheat flour. The initial pasting temperature, peak and final viscosities as well as setback increased in amylograph with the increase of immature bogbunja powder. The water absorption and dough development time increased, but the dough stability decreased in farinograph with the increase of immature bogbunja powder. Decrease of L and b values and increase of a value were shown with the increase of immature bogbunja powder in wheat flour-immature bogbunja powder composite as well as dry noodles. The cooked weight and volume of noodles decreased, but the cooking loss increased with the addition of immature bogbunja powder. Most of texture parameters (hardness, cohesiveness, chewiness, gumminess and tension) of cooked noodles decreased with the addition of immature bogbunja powder. From the result of sensory evaluation, dry noodles containing 1 and 2% immature bogbunja powder were rated as higher quality dry noodles than the others.
Methods of producing hydrogen include steam reforming, electrochemical decomposition of water, and the SI process. Among these methods, the Sulfur iodine process is one of the most promising processes for hydrogen production. The thermochemical sulfur-iodine (SI) process uses heat from a high-temperature-gas nuclear reactor to produce $H_2$ gas; this process is known for its production of clean energy as it does not emit $CO_2$ from water. But the SI-process takes place in an extremely corrosive environment for the materials. To endure SI environments, the materials for the SI environment will have to have strong corrosion resistance. This work studies the corrosion resistances of the Fe-Si, Ni-Ti and Ni Alloys, which are tested in SI-process environments. Among the SI-process environments, the conditions of boiling sulfuric acid and decomposed sulfuric acid are selected in this study. Before testing in boiling sulfuric acid environments, the specimens of Fe-4.5Si, Fe-6Si, Ni-4.5Si, Ni-Ti-Si-Nb and Ni-Ti-Si-Nb-B are previously given heat treatment at $1000^{\circ}C$ for 48 hrs. The reason for this heat treatment is that those specimens have a passive film on the surface. The specimens are immersed for 3~14 days in 98wt% boiling sulfuric acid. Corrosion rates are measured by using the weight change after immersion. The corrosion rates of the Fe-6Si and Ni-Ti-Si-Nb-B are found to decrease as the time passes. The corrosion rates of Fe-6si and Ni-Ti-Si-Nb-B are measured at 0.056 mm/yr and 0.16 mm/yr, respectively. Hastelloy-X, Alloy 617, Alloy 800H and Haynes 230 are tested in the decomposed sulfuric acid for one day. Alloy 800H was found to show the best corrosion resistance among the materials. The corrosion rate of Alloy 800H is measured at -0.35 mm/yr. In these results, the corrosion resistance of materials depends on the stability of the oxide film formed on the surface. After testing in boiling sulfuric acid and in decomposed sulfuric acid environments, the surfaces and compositions of specimens are analyzed by SEM and EDX.
Natural pigments have many applications like colouring agent, pigments, food additives, and antiseptics. At present, instead of synthetic pigments that have contributed to the development of industry, many kinds of natural pigments have been developed. The constituents of gardenia fruits, Gardenia jasminoides ELLIS, are traditionally known as herb medicine and natural dyes/pigments due to the customer is needs. The fruits produce yellow carotenoid pigments and iridoid compounds. The two main components in the yellow pigments are called crocin and crocetin. The extraction mode of yellow pigment from Gardenia is depended upon the extraction time, temperature, and volume of solvent. Red pigments or blue pigments formed from geniposide and amino acids have been reported a lot. Geniposide, the principal iridoid glucoside contained in gardenia fruit, was hydrolyzed to genipinic acid or genipin as a precursor for the pigment by enzymatic or chemical reaction. These red or blue pigments prepared with materials hydrolyzed of geniposide and amino acid and had properties governed by the electrostatic character of the amino acid. The pigments showed good stability to heat and pH but were gradually bleached by light while the other natural pigments are unstable in light, heat, acid, and base solution. The safety of the pigments was considered to be of little virulences in comparison to synthetic pigments.
This study was carried out to optimize the conditions for the extraction of antioxidative materials from licorice root, Glycyrrhiz glabra. Chipped licorice roots were extracted with several solvents and their antioxidative activities were tested to determine the optimal extraction solvent. Among the solvents tested, 95% ethanol gave the highest free radical scavenging activity, and was therefore chosen as the optimal extracting solvent. The optimum extraction temperature and time were $20^{\circ}C$ and 12 hr, respectively. Next, the free radical scavenging activity of the ethanol extract was compared with that of other known antioxidants such as ${\alpha}-tocopherol$, butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT) and butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA). Ethanol extract of licorice root had greater antioxidative activity than ${\alpha}-tocopherol$ and a similar level to that of the two synthetic antioxidants (BHA and BHT). Moreover, the antioxidative activity of the ethanol extract was inhibited neither by heat treatment at $180^{\circ}C$ for 30 min nor by treatment at extreme pH. These findings suggest that ethanol extract of G. glabra may be useful as a natural antioxidant.

Optical current sensors are suitable for operation in high voltage and high current environments such as power plants due to they are not affected by electromagnetic interference and have excellent insulation characteristics. However, as they operate in a harsh environment such as large temperature fluctuation and mechanical vibration, high reliability of the sensor is required. Therefore, many groups have been working on enhancing the reliability. In this work, an integrated optical current sensor incorporating polarization-rotated reflection interferometer is proposed. By integrating various optical components on a single chip, the sensor exhibits enhanced stability as well as the solution for low-cost optical sensors. Using this, we performed the characterization for the actual field application. By using a large power source, the current of 0.3 kA~36 kA was applied to the photosensor and the linear operation characteristics were observed. The error of the sensor was within $0{\pm}.5%$. Even when operating for a long time, the error range of the sensor was kept within $0{\pm}.5%$. In addition, the measurement of the frequency response over the range of 60 Hz to 10 kHz has confirmed that the 3-dB frequency band of the proposed OCT is well over 10 kHz.

A rapid processing method for fish sauce of high quality stability and favorable flavor was investigated using mackerel waste as starting material. The chopped waste was homogenized with water and hydrolyzed by commercial proteolytic enzymes such as Complex enzyme-2000($2.18\cdot10^4$ U/g solid, Pacific Chem. Co.) and Alcalase ($1.94\cdot10^4$ U/g solid, Novo) in a cylindrical vessel with 4 baffles and 6-bladed turbine impeller. Optimal pH and temperature for the hydrolysis with Complex enzyme-2000 were 8.0 and $50^{\circ}C$, and those with Alcalase were 9.0 and $55^{\circ}C$. In both cases, the reasonabe amount of added water and enzyme concentration based on the waste weight were $40\%,\;3\%$ and hydrolyzing time was 100 min. Thermal treatment of the hydrolysate with $6\%$ of invert sugar for 2 hours at $90^{\circ}C$ was adequated to inactivation of the enzymes and pasteurization of the hydrolysate. Flavor, taste and color of the hydrolysate were improved during the thermal treatment in which the browning reaction products might participate and result in antioxidative and bactericidal effects. Combined use of $0.005\%$ of Caryophylli flos with $6\%$ of invert sugar was also effective for the improvement of taste. Yield of the fish sauce based on the total nitrogen of the raw waste was $93.7\~94.9\%$, and $87.6\~87.9\%$ of the total nitrogen in the fish sauce was in the from of amino nitrogen. The pH, salinity and histamine content of the fish sauce prepared with $15\%$ of table salt were $6.1\~6.2$, $14.0\~14.5\%$ and less than $10mg\%$, respectively. The fish sauce was stable on bacterial growth during the storage of 60 days at $26\pm3^{\circ}C$ and the quality was also maintained.

New conducting polymers containing heterocyclic ring with carbazole, EDOT and benzobisthiazole were synthesized and characterized by organic spectroscopic methods. Potentiometric ion-selective membrane electrodes (ISMEs) have been extensively used for ion analysis in clinical, environmental, and industeial fields owing to its wide response range (4 to 7 orders of magnitude), no effect of sample turbidity, fast response time, and ease of miniaturization. Considerable attention has been given to alternative use of room temperature vulcanizing (RTV)-type silicone rubber(SR) owing to its strong adhesion and high thermal durability. Unfortunately, the high membrane resistance of SR-based (ISMs)(2 to 3 higher orders of magnitude compared to those of poly(vinyl chloride)(PVC)-based ones) has significantly restricted its application. Herein we demonstrate a new method to reduce membrane resistance via addition of new conducting polymer into the SR-based ISMs.
This study was carried out to clarify the spatial and temporal patterns of benthic environments and macrobenthos on the subtidal soft-bottom in Chonsu Bay. Seasonal surface water temperature was similar to the bottom layer, but freshwater discharges into the outlets dereased the surface salinity around the dyke in summer. Bottom dissolved oxygen was decreased deeply around the dyke and created the de-oxygenated layer during summer. Sediment grain size was consisted of finer at the neighboring of the dyke than the mouth of the bay. Organic matters including the sediment were decreased at the mouth of the bay. A total of 311 species ($769\;ind./m^2$) were identified. Polychaetes were the most abundant faunal group in the number of species and densities. The number of species revealed the spatial patterns that it was higher in the mouth of the bay, and their densities showed seasonal changes by mass recruitment occurred at the most of the area in summer, At this time, opportunistic species, Lumbrineris iongifolia and Theora fragilis, were also recruited massively. Chonsu Bay were classified into five station groups by the cluster analysis. The dominant species around the dyke were composed to opportunistic species, those in middle area were Sternaspis scutata, Paraplionospio pinnata, and those in the mouth of the bay were Mediomastus californiensis, Nephtys polybranchia. Seasonal fluctuations and spatial difference of environments seem to have influenced to the species compositions and affected to the stability of benthic ecosystems spatial-temporally In Chonsu nay.
Polyquinonediimines (PQDI) which have stable structure on heat and contains mono-azobenzene in the side chain were synthesized by means of condensation polymerization under TiCl$_4$. The synthesized monomers and polymers were identified by FT-IR, $^1$H-NMR, and elementary analysis. Especially, PQDI was comfirmed by the double-bonding peak of >C=N appeared near 1625 $cm^{-1}$ / by means of FT-IR spectrum. PQDI containing mono-azobenzene group in both side chains wat not soluble in non-polar solvents at all but partially soluble in the polar solvents having small dielectric constant, and dissolved in the strong acid such as sulfuric acid and $CH_3$SO$_3$H. Molecular weight distribution of PQDI measured by GPC showed 1.74. It was confirmed through X-ray diffraction analysis that the polymer was partially crystalline at the low angle region, but amorphous after heat treatment at 1$25^{\circ}C$. The glass transition temperature (T$_{g}$ ) of synthesized polymer was measured as 1$25^{\circ}C$ by differential scanning calorimetry. The SHG value for $\chi$$^{(2)}$ after poling at 1$25^{\circ}C$ was 8.6 pm/V (λ=1.542 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$). The SHG value slowly decreased with time from the start but appeared temporal stability after 100 hours.
In this study, interfacial properties were measured for imidazoline type cationic surfactant system which has been widely used as a fabric softener, a dispersant, an anti-static agent, a bleach activator, and an emulsifier. The CMC of imidazoline surfactant was near $6{\times}10^{-5}mol/L$ and the surface tension at CMC was about 32 mN/m. It was found that surface tension was not affected by surfactant concentration but decreased with an increase in pH. The interfacial tension between 1 wt% aqueous solution and n-dodecane was shown to be about 0.01 mN/m and equilibration time was not affected by pH. Phase behavior experiment in a binary aqueous surfactant system showed that only micellar solution of $L_1$ phase was found under conditions of temperature and pH investigated during this study. Only a two-phase region consisting of lower-phase microemulsion in equilibrium with excess oil phase existed under the same conditions, when oil was added to the binary surfactant system. The foam stability measured with 1 wt% surfactant solution increased with pH, which is consistent with surface tension measurement result. QCM(quartz crystal microbalance) measurement showed that surfactant adsorption increased with surfactant concentration but decreased with pH. According to the friction measurement, best fabric softening effect by imidazoline surfactant system was found under alkali conditions.
