  • There are several effective factors to influence die life in the warm forging process. For instance process design die design and die materials etc This study presented heat treatment method which could improve toughness and wear resistance simultaneously in high temperature to apply high speed tool steels like SKH51 to die material for warm forging process. To verify the feasibility of application of heat treatment method mentioned above wear test was performed under the condition of constant time in 40$0^{\circ}C$ Wear coefficient was examined to search a relation between wear amount and time for each material and heat treatment method in 30, 60, and 130 minutes. To quantify the toughness-behavior between room and high temperature impact test was performed and heat fatigue test also fulfilled to compare with the resistance of heat check in room, 200, 400, and $600^{\circ}C$ temperature. On the basis of experimental results mentioned above high speed tool steel was applied to verify appropriateness of newly proposed heat treatment method for die of rotor pole used in automobile alternator. As a result die life of high speed tool steel applied newly proposed heat treatment is longer than that of STD61.

  • In this study, we investigated a carbon nanotube (CNT) film sensor to detect hazardous and noxious substances distributed in seawater. The response change of the sensor was studied according to environmental temperature, and its temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR, α) was measured. The temperature of the CNT film (~50 ㎛) was in the range of 20-50 ℃, and αCNT was calculated to be -0.0011 %/ ℃. We experimentally confirmed that the CNT film had a smaller TCR value than that of the conventional sensor. Therefore, we investigated the response change of the CNT sensor according to temperature. The CNT sensor showed a relatively small error of approximately 2.3 % up to 30 ℃, which is within the temperature range of the seawater of the Korean Peninsula. However, when the temperature exceeded 40 ℃, the error in the CNT sensor increased by more than 5.2 %. We fabricated a metal oxide (ITO, indium-tin-oxide) film and compared its performance with that of the CNT sensor. The ITO sensor showed an error of >12.5 % at 30 ℃, indicating that in terms of the stability of the sensor to temperature, the CNT film sensor has superior performance.

  • In this paper, we propose a sensor design by using a polysilicon strain gauge bonded to a metal diaphragm. The fabrication process of the thin polysilicon strain gauges having thicknesses of $50\;{\mu}m$ was established using conventional MEMS technologies; further, the technique of glass frit bonding of the polysilicon strain gauge to the stainless steel diaphragm was established. Performance of the polysilicon strain gauge bonded to the metal cantilever beam was evaluated. The gauge factor, temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR), nonlinearity, and hysteresis of the polysilicon strain gauge were measured. The results demonstrate that the resistance increases linearly with tensile stress, while it decreases with compressive stress. The value of the gauge factor, which represents the sensitivity of strain gauges, is 34.0; this value is about 7.15 times higher than the gauge factor of a metal-foil strain gauge. The resistance of the polysilicon strain gauge decreases linearly with an increase in the temperature, and TCR is $-328\;ppm/^{\circ}C$. Further, nonlinearity and hysteresis are 0.21 % FS and 0.17 % FS, respectively.

  • We have prepared polymer composites of low-density polyethylene (LDPE) and ionomers (Surlyn 8940) containing polar segments and metal ions by melt blending with carbon black (CB) as a conductive filler. The resistivity and positive temperature coefficient (PTC) of the ionomer/LDPE/CB composites were investigated with respect to the CB content. The ionomer content has an effect on the resistivity and percolation threshold of the polymer composites; the percolation curve exhibits a plateau at low CB content. The PTC intensity of the crosslinked ionomer/LDPE/CB composite decreased slightly at low ionomer content, and increased significantly above a critical concentration of the ionomer. Irradiation-induced crosslinking could increase the PTC intensity and decrease the NTC effect of the polymer composites. The minimum switching current (Ι$\sub$trip/) of the polymer composites decreased with temperature; the ratio of Ι$\sub$trip/ for the ionomer/LDPE/CB composite decreased to a greater extent than that of the LDPE/CB composite. The average temperature coefficient of resistance (${\alpha}$$\sub$T/) for the polymer composites increased in the low-temperature region.

  • The effects of composition ratios and sintering conditions in Co1-xMgxO ceramics on the sintering characteristics, electrical properties and oxygen sensing characteristics were investigated. In the same sintering conditions, porosity decreased with increase of MgO contents. The relationshiop of temperature and resistance in Co1-xMgxO ceramics showed NTC(negative temperature coefficient) characteristics at the temperature range from $700^{\circ}C$ to 1,10$0^{\circ}C$. In the case of pure CoO, however, the PTC(positive temperature coefficient) characteristics were shown over about 90$0^{\circ}C$. The electrical conductivity of Co1-xMgxO ceramics decreased proportionally with decrease of oxygen partial pressure at the range from 1 to 10-4(atm). Particularly, Co0.5Mg0.5O ceramics showed the highest sensitivity to oxygen gas.

  • Recently, as the interest in improving energy efficiency has grown, the demand for vehicle and machine parts that are resistant in high temperature corrosive conditions and abrasive environments has increased. Pack chromizing treatment of sintered steels is a profitable method that satisfies both corrosion resistance and low friction properties. Since austenitic stainless steels have good corrosion resistance but low mechanical hardness, if they are replaced by sintered steel parts with pack chromizing treatment, all the desirable properties such as low price, easy molding, high hardness, low frictional coefficient, and high corrosion resistance, can be obtained. The higher corrosion resistance of the chromized parts over that of the austenitic stainless steels was acquired by coating chromium carbides and a thin chromium oxides layer on the surface. Moreover, the surface morphology of chromized parts, which were composed of chromium rich phases and hardened chromium carbides by diffusing and alloying, had a peak-and-valley shape so that the dimple effect by the wrinkled morphology and high hardness induced a low friction coefficient.

  • The transient temperature distribution of materials during upsetting forming is very important for quality of upsetted workpiece and understanding the thermal characteristics of upsetting is essential for optimum control of the forming. In this paper it is shown that the governing equation of heat transfer for axi-symetric body can be derived from minimizing a functional, and from this theory, formulation of analysis by the finite element method is presented. It is also shown that the thermal contact resistance between two bodies can be represented by equivalent coefficient of heat conductivity. Some examples of calsulated transient temperature distributions by the computer program diveloped from the theory presented in this paper are given in graphic forms. It is proven that the results calculations are very plausible.

  • This paper reports on the fabrication process and characteristics of a ceramic thin-film pressure sensor based on Ta-N strain-gauges for harsh environment applications. The Ta-N thin-film strain-gauges are sputter-deposited on a thermally oxidized micromachined Si diaphragms with buried cavities for overpressure tolerance. The proposed device takes advantage of the good mechanical properties of single-crystalline Si as a diaphragm fabricated by SDB and electrochemical etch-stop technology, and in order to extend the temperature range, it has relatively higher resistance, stability and gauge factor of Ta-N thin-films more than other gauges. The fabricated pressure sensor presents a low temperature coefficient of resistance, high-sensitivity, low non-linearity and excellent temperature stability. The sensitivity is 1.21 ~ 1.097 mV/V.kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$ in temperature ranges of 25~ $200^{\circ}C$ and a maximum non-linearity is 0.43 %FS.

  • Platinum thin films were deposited on Si-wafer by DC magnetron sputtering for RTD (Resistance Thermometer Devices). We investigated the physical and electrical characteristics of these films under various conditions, the input power, working vacuum, temperature of substrate and also after annealing these films. The Resistivity and Sheet Resistivity were decreased with increasing the temperature of substrate and the annealing time at $1000^{\circ}C$. At substrate temperature $300^{\circ}C$, input power 7(w/$cm^2$), working vacuum 5mtorr and annealing conditions $1000^{\circ}C$, 240min we obtained $10.65{\mu}{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$, Resistivity of Pt thin film and $3000{\sim}3900ppm/^{\circ}C$, TCR(temperature coefficient of resistance) closed to the bulk value.
