  • Considering pollution source is transferred by discharge, it is very important to analyze the correlation between discharge and water quality. And temperature also influent to the water quality. In this paper, it is used water quality data that was measured DO (Dissolved Oxygen), TOC (Total Organic Carbon), TN (Total Nitrogen), TP (Total Phosphorus) at Dalchun real time monitoring stations in Namhan river. These characteristics were analyzed with the water quality of rainy and nonrainy periods. Input data of the water quality forecasting models that they were constructed by neural network and neuro-fuzzy was chosen as the reasonable data, and water quality forecasting models were applied. LMNN (Levenberg-Marquardt Neural Network), MDNN (MoDular Neural Network), and ANFIS (Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System) models have achieved the highest overall accuracy of TOC data. LMNN and MDNN model which are applied for DO, TN, TP forecasting shows better results than ANFIS. MDNN model shows the lowest estimation error when using daily time, which is qualitative data trained with quantitative data. If some data has periodical properties, it seems effective using qualitative data to forecast.

  • High level of accuracy in forecasting heat demand of each district is required for operating and managing the district heating efficiently. Heat demand has a close connection with the demands of the previous days and the temperature, general demand forecasting methods may be used forecast. However, there are some exceptional situations to apply general methods such as the exceptional low demand in weekends or vacation period. We introduce a new method to forecast the heat demand to overcome these situations, using the linearities between the demand and some other factors. Our method uses the temperature and the past 7 days' demands as the factors which determine the future demand. The model consists of daily and hourly models which are multiple linear regression models. Appling these two models to historical data, we confirmed that our method can forecast the heat demand correctly with reasonable errors.

  • Recently maximum power demand of our country has become to be under the great in fluence of electric cooling and air conditioning demand which are sensitive to weather conditions. This paper presents the technique and algorithm to forecast the long-term maximum power demand considering the characteristics of electric power and weather variable. By introducing a weather load model for forecasting long-term maximum power demand with the recent statistic data of power demand, annual maximum power demand is separated into two parts such as the base load component, affected little by weather, and the weather sensitive load component by means of multi-regression analysis method. And we derive the growth trend regression equations of above two components and their individual coefficients, the maximum power demand of each forecasting year can be forecasted with the sum of above two components. In this case we use the coincident dry bulb temperature as the weather variable at the occurence of one-day maximum power demand. As the growth trend regression equation we choose an exponential trend curve for the base load component, and real quadratic curve for the weather sensitive load component. The validity of the forecasting technique and algorithm proposed in this paper is proved by the case study for the present Korean power system.

  • In order to provide stable district heat supplying service to the certain limited residential area, it is the most important to forecast the short-term future demand more accurately and produce and supply heat in efficient way. However, it is very difficult to develop a universal heat demand forecasting model that can be applied to general situations because the factors affecting the heat consumption are very diverse and the consumption patterns are changed according to individual consumers and regional characteristics. In particular, considering all of the various variables that can affect heat demand does not help improve performance in terms of accuracy and versatility. Therefore, this study aims to develop a demand forecasting model using deep learning based on only limited information that can be acquired in real time. A demand forecasting model was developed by learning the artificial neural network of the Tensorflow using past data consisting only of the outdoor temperature of the area and date as input variables. The performance of the proposed model was evaluated by comparing the accuracy of demand predicted with the previous regression model. The proposed heat demand forecasting model in this research showed that it is possible to enhance the accuracy using only limited variables which can be secured in real time. For the demand forecasting in a certain region, the proposed model can be customized by adding some features which can reflect the regional characteristics.

  • Accurate electric load forecasting is very important in the efficient operation of the smart grid. Recently, due to the development of IT technology, many works for constructing accurate forecasting models have been developed based on big data processing using artificial intelligence techniques. These forecasting models usually utilize external factors such as temperature, humidity and historical electric load as independent variables. However, due to diverse internal and external factors, historical electrical load contains many missing data, which makes it very difficult to construct an accurate forecasting model. To solve this problem, in this paper, we propose a random forest-based missing data recovery scheme and construct an electric load forecasting model based on multilayer perceptron using the estimated values of missing data and external factors. We demonstrate the performance of our proposed scheme via various experiments.

  • Fuzzy linear regression method has been used for short-term load forecasting of the special day in the previous researches. However, considerable load forecasting errors would be occurring if a special day is located on Saturday or Monday. In this paper, a new load forecasting method for the consecutive holidays is proposed with the consideration of the power demand variation rate. In the proposed method, a exponential smoothing model reflecting temperature is used to short-term load forecasting for Sunday during the consecutive holidays and then the loads of the special day during the consecutive holidays is calculated using the hourly power demand variation rate between the previous similar consecutive holidays. The proposed method is tested with 10 cases of the consecutive holidays from 2009 to 2012. Test results show that the average accuracy of the proposed method is improved about 2.96% by comparison with the fuzzy linear regression method.

  • PM2.5 concentration in Seoul could be predicted by deep neural network model. In this paper, the contribution of input factors to the model's prediction results is analyzed using the LRP(Layer-wise Relevance Propagation) technique. LRP analysis is performed by dividing the input data by time and PM concentration, respectively. As a result of the analysis by time, the contribution of the measurement factors is high in the forecast for the day, and those of the forecast factors are high in the forecast for the tomorrow and the day after tomorrow. In the case of the PM concentration analysis, the contribution of the weather factors is high in the low-concentration pattern, and that of the air quality factors is high in the high-concentration pattern. In addition, the date and the temperature factors contribute significantly regardless of time and concentration.

  • Climate variations have become worse and diversified recently, which caused catastrophic disasters for our communities and ecosystem including economic property damages in Korea. Heat wave of summer season is one of causes for such damages of which outbreak tends to increase recently. Related short-term forecasting information has been provided by the Korea Meteorological Administration based on results from numerical forecasting model. As the study area, the ◯◯ province was selected because of the highest mortality rate in Korea for the past 15 years (1998~2012). When comparing the forecasted temperatures with field measurements, it showed RMSE of 1.57℃ and RMSE of 1.96℃ was calculated when only comparing the data corresponding to the observed value of 33℃ or higher. The forecasting process would take at least about 3~4 hours to provide the 4 hours advanced forecasting information. Therefore, this study proposes a methodology for temperature prediction using LSTM considering the short prediction time and the adequate accuracy. As a result of 4 hour temperature prediction using this approach, RMSE of 1.71℃ was occurred. When comparing only the observed value of 33℃ or higher, RMSE of 1.39℃ was obtained. Even the numerical prediction model of the whole range of errors is relatively smaller, but the accuracy of prediction of the machine learning model is higher for above 33℃. In addition, it took an average of 9 minutes and 26 seconds to provide temperature information using this approach. It would be necessary to study for wider spatial range or different province with proper data set in near future.

  • A thermal index which considers metabolic heat generation of human body is proposed for operational forecasting. The new thermal index, Perceived Temperature (PT), is forecasted using Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) mesoscale model and validated. Forecasted PT shows the characteristics of diurnal variation and topographic and latitudinal effect. Statistical skill scores such as correlation, bias, and RMSE are employed for objective verification of PT and input meteorological variables which are used for calculating PT. Verification result indicates that the accuracy of air temperature and wind forecast is higher in the initial forecast time, while relative humidity is improved as the forecast time increases. The forecasted PT during 2007 summer is lower than PT calculated by observation data. The predicted PT has a minimum Root-Mean-Square-Error (RMSE) of $7-8^{\circ}C$ at 9-18 hour forecast. Spatial distribution of PT shows that it is overestimated in western region, while PT in middle-eastern region is underestimated due to strong wind and low temperature forecast. Underestimation of wind speed and overestimation of relative humidity have caused higher PT than observation in southern region. The predicted PT from the mesoscale model gives appropriate information as a thermal index forecast. This study suggests that forecasted PT is applicable to the prediction of health warning based on the relationship between PT and mortality.
