  • The roll gap set-up in the finishing mill is one of the most important technologies in the hot plate rolling process. As the target thickness can be obtained by the correct set-up of the roll gap, improving the roll gap set-up technology is very critical for plate thickness accuracy. The main cause of thickness variation in hot plate mills is the non-uniform temperature distribution along the length of the slab. The objective of this study is to adjust the roll gap set-up for the thickness accuracy of plate in hot rolling process considering top-end temperature drop. Therefore this study has concentrated on determining the correct amounts of thickness variation according to top-end temperature drop and roll gap to compensate thickness variation. The control method of roll gap set-up which can improve the thickness accuracy was proposed. The off-line simulation of compensated roll gap significantly decreases top-end thickness variation.

  • The affected factors for an accuracy of theodolite system are not only the measurement environment of temperature, illumination, etc. but also the measurement processes of the distance between two theodolites, the distance from theodolite system to scale bar and the distance from theodolite system to targets. We have known that the best collimation distance between two theodolites and the best distance from theodolite system to scale bar is $3{\sim}4m$. This study was performed for searching the best distance from theodolite system to targets on above measurement configuration. And, we could know that the best distance from theodolite system to targets is $2{\sim}6m$ and the system accuracy could be within ${\pm}0.025mm$.

  • A thermally responsive hydrogel has reversibility with temperature during swelling. Here, we proposed origami inspired temperature sensor by using multi-layered hydrogel film. The formation of patterned stripes on microscale film drives bending to an angle that can be controlled linearly. Although temperature range was not wide, measured sensitivity of sensors has high resolution and accuracy. It providing a powerful platform for the design of sensitive sensors and that easily adapt other type of sensors in microscale.

  • This paper proposes a short-term load forecasting by using a temperature and load pattern. The forecasting model that represents the relations between load and temperature which get a numeral expected temperature based on the past temperature was constructed. Case studies were applied to load forecasting for 2009 data, and the results show its appropriate accuracy.

  • Recently a new signal processing algorithm for white light interferometry was presented. In this paper, the proposed signal processing algorithm was applied for absolute temperature measurement using white light interferometry. Stability testing and absolute temperature measurement were demonstrated. Stability test demonstrated the feasibility of absolute temperature measurement with an accuracy of 0.015 fringe. The test also showed that the absolute temperature measurement system using white light interferometry is capable of obtaining the theoretical minimum detectable change (0.0005 fringe), which is consistent with the performance predicted by the proposed signal processing algorithm.

  • This study was conducted to determine the possibility of estimating the daily mean temperature for a specific location based on the climatic data collected from the nearby Automated Synoptic Observing System (ASOS) and Automated Weather System(AWS) to improve the accuracy of the climate data in forage yield prediction model. To perform this study, the annual mean temperature and monthly mean temperature were checked for normality, correlation with location information (Longitude, Latitude, and Altitude) and multiple regression analysis, respectively. The altitude was found to have a continuous effect on the annual mean temperature and the monthly mean temperature, while the latitude was found to have an effect on the monthly mean temperature excluding June. Longitude affected monthly mean temperature in June, July, August, September, October, and November. Based on the above results and years of experience with climate-related research, the daily mean temperature estimation was determined to be possible using longitude, latitude, and altitude. In this study, it is possible to estimate the daily mean temperature using climate data from all over the country, but in order to improve the accuracy of daily mean temperature, climatic data needs to applied to each city and province.

  • A computational method is developed for predicting the steady-state temperature field in an LMR core. Detailed core-wide coolant temperature profiles are efficiently calculated using the simplified energy equation mixing model[1] and the subchannel analysis method. The $\theta$-method is employed for discretizing the energy equations in the axial direction. The interassembly coupling is achieved by interassembly gap flow. Cladding and fuel temperatures are calculated with the one-dimensional conduction model and temperature integrals of conductivities. The accuracy of the method is tested by performing several benchmark calculations for too LMR problems. The results indicate that the accuracy is comparable to the other methods based on ENERGY model. It is also shown that the implicit scheme for the axial discretization is more efficient than the explicit scheme.

  • An experimental study using a psychrometric calorimeter was conducted to investigate the temperature and pressure mea surement errors permitted for determining cooling capacity of an air conditioner. First, the instrument calibration was made in accordance with the related test methods and guidelines in order to accurately evaluate basic performance (cooling capacity and airs flow rate). Secondly, a parametric study was performed to examine the effect of measurement error involved if temperature and pressure measuring instruments on the cooling capacity calculation. From the results, it was found that the degree of accuracy for both temperature and pressure measurements played an important role on the error occurring in the determination of cooling capacity and needed to be maintained within a certain value to guarantee required accuracy of cooling capacity.

  • In order to examine spindle deformation characteristics that affects the performance of dynmic cutting acuracy due to tool weight variation in a experimental spindle. thermal deformation value of operrative spindle by the axial displacement and the radial run out was measured according to the rise of spindle temperature through the laps of operation time and the change of rotational speed under the tool weight variation. A qualitative summary is as follows ; 1) The results show that the tool weight affcets the spindle temperature variation in a experimental spindle. 2) Radial run out and axial displacement was measured according to the rise of the spindle temperature and the performance of dynamic cutting accuracy was affected by the tool weight variation. 3) Axial displacement is 1.3 times larger than the radial run out in a experimental spindle conditions. 4) Axial displacement is continuously elongated when the tool weight is repeatly exchanged since the spindle themal deformaion, however, when the same tool weight is used. the displacement is still constant.
