Advanced countries such as the USA and Japan are eagerly seeking ways to improve health and welfare of the elderly. One of the services is home health care service using the telephone. Various types of services using the telephone have been developed, improved and are being utilized ranging from the basic consulting to emergency response systems in the area of health care for the elderly. A demonstration project was launched to study the feasibility of a consulting system and telemedicine for the elderly using the public phone system in Korea. For this project, a gathering site for the elderly was selected and those who visited this place were interviewed to find out what kinds of services they wanted and what kind of system they needed to provide the required services. Based on the users' requests and the surrounding environment, a telephone consulting facility was established at the Research Institute of Nursing Science at Seoul National University and consulting personnel was recruited, trained and posted at the center. An Application program for home health care nurses to use when they visited the patients at their homes was developed. This system operates on a notebook Computer and allows nurses to communicate with a doctor at a local hospital through a modem and telecommunication line. These systems were implemented for three months and problems which developed during operation of the systems were identified and progressively modified. Through system evaluation, it was found that a consulting system using phone service will be an invaluable system for the welfare of the elderly in the future. But in order to meet the elderly's need, more services than mere consultation are needed. That is, communication with physicians and hospitals are needed. Thus, when there is any need for physicians' attention, physicians or hospitals should be contacted directly. Similarly for telemedicine, when the home health care nurse visits elderly patients she can assess the patient's problem and provide nursing care, access a physician or hospital to refer her patient to or consult directly using the telecommunication the system. The above mentioned system is a basic form of futuristic telemedicine for the elderly and those who have chronic disease problems. This kind of system will be of great value when it is used on the national information super-highways in the future. In order to get to that stage, of course, this project needs great improvement in the technical, academic, and legal aspects.

In the high degree information society of the 21st century, along with the social activity becoming much more closer, our life style will also be very much changed. Recognition for obtaining various informations rapidly will be anticipated to enhance and the progress of a mobile communication system is greatly expected. This will enable the system to give and receive ″whenever, wherever, whomever, whatsever information.″ In our country, the car telephone and personal mobile communication services of radio calling etc. are diversified by the telecommunication system reformation and by the introduction of competive principle of the hereafter of 1988. Moreover, in accordance with the tariff, the number of subscrier is rapidly increasing. On the other hand, on the utility side of business, for the realization of a mobile communication which is abundant in functional nature, not only the hitherto voice but also non voice system of data communication is being introduced. The Ministry of Communications of Korea has been expediting the effective utilization of limited frequency band of qusai microwave band etc. as a concrete measures for an ever increasing demand. At the same time, to disseminate and promote a mobile communication most effectively, convenience, economic, and safety nature of the system, and in addition to these, international standardization is considered. For constitution of a new mobile communication, the Ministry has been promoting various policies designed for the digitalization of system, utility extention for home. personal level.

This paper introduces a interword modeling and a Viterbi search method for continuous speech recognition. We also describe a development of a real-time voice dialing system which can recognize around one hundred words and continuous digits in speaker independent mode. For continuous digit recognition, between-word units have been proposed to provide a more precise representation of word junctures. The best path in HMM is found by the Viterbi search algorithm, from which digit sequences are recognized. The simulation results show that a interword modeling using the context-dependent between-word units provide better recognition rates than a pause modeling using the context-independent pause unit. The voice dialing system is implemented on a DSP board with a telephone interface plugged in an IBM PC AT/486.

Softswitch is the core BcN equipment which voice and multimedia switching based on the IP Technologies. It is designed to replace the Class 5(local Exchange) and Class 4(Toll Exchange) switch based on the circuit wired and wireless switching network technologies. Softswitch gets its name because typically it is a software based solution implemented on general purpose computers/servers. While the traditional PSTN switches are rely on dedicated facilities for T and S inter-connection and are designed primarily for voice communications. Packet based Softswitch is divided the control of call and bearer, very different from Public telephone network. Sometimes Call Agent or Media Gateway Controller, a key component in the VoIP solution, is also called Softswitch. This paper will suggest the software architecture of softswitch for performance in call processing part, also suggest the session management model to cover call setup latency.

The instability of social norms on the Internet causes the diversity of social identification. Meanwhile, the anonymity of online social identity and the chaos of the role-playing among the interacting participants cause an ambiguity of identity recognition, which intensifies anxiety about interpersonal interaction. Methods that promote face-to-face interpersonal interaction through the reconstruction of the identification to the social system and intergroup trust is worth further research. Based on a telephone survey of urban residents in thirty-six cities in China (N=1080), the study focuses on the influence of Internet use on interpersonal interaction of urban residents and the mediation effect of social identification. The results show that Internet use has a negative effect on the interpersonal interactions of urban residents, and social identification plays a mediating effect between Internet use and interpersonal interaction. Implications of the results are discussed.

In this paper, we study the robot controller design using the voice and data communication via CDMA(Code Division Multiple Access) mobile communication network. We design the robot remote controller using the three methods, telephone call speech recognition, DTMF (Dual Tone Multiple Frequency) realization, SMS(Short Message Service) transmission/reception way via CDMA mobile communication network. We investigate the validity and effectiveness of the proposed remote controller which applied to the mobile robot.

본 연구에서는 PCS 이동전화의 객관적 통화품질평가 척도개발을 위한 기초연구로 기존의 CD(Cepstral Distance), MSD (Mel Spectral Distance), BSD(Bark Spectral Distance), PSQM (Perceptual Speech Quality Measure) 척도를 적용하여 그 성능을 비교 분석하였다. 이 척도들을 실제환경에서 수집된 PCS 음성데이터에 대해서 적용하였고 이 결과치와 청취자들의 평가 반응에 의해 얻어진 MOS 결과치와의 상관성을 조사하였다. 실험 결과, BSD와 PSQM 척도의 상관성이 0.81, 0.84로 나타나 CD, MSD보다 성능이 더 우수함을 보였다.

본 논문에서는 인터넷 기반의 컴퓨터를 이용하여 전화교환 및 통신이 가능하도록 하는 B-ISDN 인터넷 폰 교환 시스템의 구현을 위한 개발방법 및 설계에 관해 연구하였다. 인터넷 폰 시스템의 단말과 교환서버의 구조를 설계하고, 호제어 메세지와 자료구조를 정의하고, 사용자간 통화를 위한 착발신 단말 간의 호제어 메세지의 흐름을 상세 설계하였다.

In this thesis, the architecture and design of IWS(Inter Working System) which interconnects two different networks (PSDN: Packet Switched Data Network, PSTN:Public Switched Telephone Network) are described. IWS provides interconnection services for the compatibility of communication between two networks. IWS consists of network interface protocols, protocol conversion facilities and management facilities.
