  • Fault management of virtualized network environments using user-driven network provisioning systems (NPSs) is crucial for guaranteeing seamless virtual network services irrespective of physical infrastructure impairment. The network service interface (NSI) of the Open Grid Forum reflects the need for a common standard management API for the reservation and provisioning of user-driven virtual circuits (VCs) across global networks. NSI-based NPSs (that is, network service agents) can be used to compose user-driven VCs for mission-critical applications in a dynamic multi-domain. In this article, we first attempt to outline the design issues and challenges faced when attempting to provide mission-critical applications using dynamic VCs with a protection that is both user-driven and trustworthy in a dynamic multi-domain environment, to motivate work in this area of research. We also survey representative works that address inter-domain VC protection and qualitatively evaluate them and current NSI against the issues and challenges.

  • Rack-level DC power supply is the optimal technology for providing DC power to a volume server without any power infrastructure changes in an existing AC data center. In this paper, we propose a smartly controllable and monitorable DC rack power system. The proposed system improves power efficiency by changing the power distribution architecture of a conventional method in the rack. We developed an optimal power control method in multipower modules to provide high efficiency at low loads. In addition, the proposed system provides real-time web monitoring of the rack power and environment around a rack. In our experiments, the proposed system improved the power efficiency by over 10% compared to an AC power system providing N+1 redundant power and power monitoring.

  • Network virtualization opens the door to novel infrastructure services offering connectivity and node manageability. In this letter, we focus on the cost-efficient embedding of on-demand virtual optical network requests for interconnecting geographically distributed data centers. We present a mixed integer linear programming formulation that introduces flexibility in the virtual-physical node mapping to optimize the usage of the underlying physical resources. Illustrative results show that flexibility in the node mapping can reduce the number of add-drop ports required to serve the offered demands by 40%.

  • A hardware-acceleration architecture that separates virtual network functions (VNFs) and network control (called HSN) is proposed to solve the mismatch between the simple flow steering requirements and strong packet processing abilities of software-defined networking (SDN) forwarding elements (FEs) in SDN/network function virtualization (NFV) architecture, while improving the efficiency of NFV infrastructure and the performance of network-intensive functions. HSN makes full use of FEs and accelerates VNFs through two mechanisms: (1) separation of traffic steering and packet processing in the FEs; (2) separation of SDN and NFV control in the FEs. Our HSN prototype, built on NetFPGA-10G, demonstrates that the processing performance can be greatly improved with only a small modification of the traditional SDN/NFV architecture.

  • The telecommunications-based information technology and the provision of electronic commerce are broadening possibility of the virtual enterprise. The purpose of this paper is to enhance academic and practical understanding virtual enterprise as one of the most promising new concepts in electronic commerce area. I strive to establish the concept of virtual enterprise as a strategic source of competitive advantage in small & medium business. I analyze several new trends and concepts in strategic business area which will eventually lead small & medium business to the virtual enterprise. It has great potential benefits for small & medium businesses which are placed in difficult circumstances. They must build IT infrastructure and make use of co-sourcing for the utilization of virtual enterprise. This paper also suggests the strategic methods which enable the conventional enterprise to introduce the virtual enterprise.

  • As Real Time Enterprise (RTE) has been spotlighted since the year of 2002, some advanced companies have been implementing the paradigm of RTE to its legacy systems and the number of the companies has been growing. However, the network infrastructures mainly based on fixed telecommunications network make the results of the RTE implementations fall short of their expectations. In this paper, we propose to construct the fixed-mobile convergence (FMC) environment to achieve RTE. The convergence infrastructure will improve user accessibility to all kinds of data and will encourage the users to interact with the systems.

  • Since technological innovation, adoption, and diffusion is a fundamental engine for a company's competitiveness and in turn a nation's industrial development, diffusion of technological innovation has been one of popular research themes to many researchers and scholars for decades. Especially, in today's knowledge-based economy, the IT technology became a fundamental infrastructure for a nation and thus their impact on a nation's economy has grown to be tremendous. This paper investigates the patterns of technological diffusion of 16 telecommunications services. Firstly, we identify the optimal diffusion model which represents the 15 IT innovation best in terms of goodness-of-fit. Secondly, based on the best model identified we cluster the 16 IT innovations according to their diffusion characteristics such as penetration rate and diffusion speed. Lastly, we categorize the innovations in terms of technology (voice-based innovation and data-based innovation) and demand (household-use and business-use) attributes, and compare their diffusion patterns and found some meaningful difference in diffusion patterns. We hope the result helpful to corporate managers as well as policy makers in relevant areas.

  • In this paper, we present an IND-CCA2 secure certificateless proxy re-encryption scheme in the random oracle model. A certificateless public key cryptography simplifies the certificate management in a traditional public key infrastructure and the built-in key escrow feature in an identity-based public key cryptography. Our scheme shares the merits of certificateless public key encryption cryptosystems and proxy re-encryption cryptosystems. Our certificateless proxy re-encryption scheme has several practical and useful properties - namely, multi-use, unidirectionality, non-interactivity, non-transitivity and so on. The security of our scheme bases on the standard bilinear Diffie-Hellman and the decisional Bilinear Diffie-Hellman assumptions.

The Information age is creating profound changes in the way we live and work. It is transforming all aspects of society, stimulating new opportunities. Over the past decade, India has deliberately prepared itself to meet the new challenges of the information age. India became an important player in shaping world software industry. Through the industrial policy, Indian government is focusing on 1) the development of software industry, 2) dramatic increase in IT scientists engineers, and the promotion of education institutes, 3) the establishment of the software technology Parks (STP), 4) the inducement of foreign direct investment, 5) extensive standardization, 6) the coordination of the law and system. India has liberalized finance and telecommunications system in an effort to bring in more business, and has revamped education curriculums to encourage more creativity among students. Government has played crucial role in bringing India one of advanced software nation by presenting the grand vision and sophisticated plan, liberalizing telecommunication market, and enhancing the efficiency of bureaucratic system.
