Market Share Forecast Reflecting Competitive Situations in the Telecommunication Service Industry (통신서비스산업에서 경쟁상황을 반영한 시장점유율 예측)

  • Most demand forecasting studies for telecommunication services have focused on estimating market size at the introductory stage of new products or services, or on suggesting improvement methods of forecasting models. Although such studies forecast business growth and market sizes through demand forecasting for new technologies and overall demands in markets, they have not suggested more specific information like relative market share, customers' preferences on technologies or service, and potential sales power. This study focuses on the telecommunication service industry and explores ways to calculate the relative market shares between competitors, considering competitive situations at the introductory stage of a new mobile telecommunication service provider. To reflect the competitive characteristics of the telecommunication markets, suggested is an extended conjoint analysis using service coverage and service switching rates as modification variables. This study is considered to be able to provide strategic implications to businesses offering existing service and ones planning to launch new services. The result of analysis shows that the new service provider has the greatest market share at the competitive situation where the new service covers the whole country, offers about 50% of existing service price, and allows all cellphones except a few while the existing service carrier maintains its price and service and has no response to the new service introduction. This means that the market share of the new service provider soars when it is highly competitive with fast network speed and low price.

An Analysis on the Change of Usage Behavior for Bundle Services in Korean Telecommunication Market (방송통신 결합상품서비스 이용행태 변화 분석 연구)

  • We analyze changes of consumption behavior for bundle services for the latest three years focusing on comparing the detailed service types and service providers to understand competition structure in the market. Our major findings and implications are as follows. First, the mobile telecommunication service is certainly deemed to be a major selection criteria for bundling service provider, therefore the leading company in the mobile telecommunication has become more significant market power. Second, IPTV has an important influence for slection of bundling service provider, lately in some cases, rather than broadband Internet. Third, the individual services affecting the selection of bundling service providers clearly showed differentiation among three operators as a mobile telecommunication service of SK Group, a broadband Internet of KT, and an IPTV of LGU+. In addition, the importance of individual services in securing subscribers has been increased as the preference factors to switch a service provider were synchronized with the decision of major bundling service provider. Finally, although it is difficult to find customers' lock-In due to the latest change of their intentions to switch a provider, we find it is continuously necessary to monitor customers' lock-in as there are more long-term customers with re-contracts. Our results provide the policy implications based on the change of competition structure and usage behavior in the bundle market which is not evaluated the competiton situation.

  • Premium Service is the next service to be developed after the Freephone Service and Credit Call Service which has currently been developed and is being now tested. Premium Service is a service which provide information on a telephone line. The calls are charged with a special rate which includes service and call charge. Public telecommunication operator performs charging and accounting from the service user for the service provider and for every service provided subtracts the commission from the part of service revenue and gives the rest back to the service provider. This paper is about the study on the implementation of the Premium Service in the Service Switching Point.

  • Consumer needs becomes various in a mature mobile telecommunication market, while service differentiation is hard to achieve. Because of the introduction of number portability, switching barrier becomes lower and the competition among telecommunication service providers is getting fierce in order to maintain and obtain customers. Moreover, HSDPA, which is a new telecommunication service, caused the intense marketing activity for the move to the next generation customers. Under these circumstances, brand equity can be a key to a long-term competitive edge for mobile phone service providers. However, there were few researches reporting the mobile telecommunication brand equity, and none of them analyzed if customer equity which particularly is developed at the CDMA market has an effect on HSDPA service. In this study, we identified the determinants of mobile telecommunication brand equity, which is focused on brand image, customer benefit, price, service quality, and marketing activity, and its influence on the HSDPA service subscription behavior. Finally, we suggested the strategic implication of brand management strategies for mobile phone service providers.

Study on Factors Affecting Intention of Switching China's Mobile Telecommunication Service - Focusing on PPM Theory (중국 이동통신시장에서 서비스 전환의도에 영향을 미치는 요인에 관한 연구 - PPM 이론을 중심으로)

  • China's mobile communication market has been growing quantitatively and qualitatively since 2000. Currently, it has secured 1.27 billion mobile subscribers and many of the Korean companies try to enter the Chinese market and cooperation with companies in China is being held. Thus understanding of the Chinese markets is the key to better prepare for future international competition. This study is to identify factors affecting switching intentions and behaviors for Chinese mobile subscribers to other mobile service providers by the PPM and it is to derive correlations between strategies of mobile service providers and users' switching intention by the groups classified by ARPU. We conducted a survey targeting 270 Chinese mobile users and analyze it by using Smart PLS 2.0. In conclusion, push effects have positive influence on intention to switching and relational switching cost among mooring effect have significantly negative influence on intention to switching In particular, intention to switching depending on the groups classified by a level of their ARPU have been shown as significantly different. This study will extend theoretical range of PPM theory in explaining users' switching behaviors and contribute to establish strategies to enter the chinese market.
