  • Recent research has documented that there is a close relationship between problem posing and problem solving in arithmetic. However, most studies investigated the relationship between problem posing and problem solving only by means of standard problem situations. In order to overcome that shortcoming, a pilot study with Chinese fourth-graders was done to investigate this relationship using a non-standard, realistic problem situation. The results revealed a significant positive relationship between students' problem posing and solving abilities. Based on that pilot study, a more extensive and systematic ascertaining study was carried out to confirm the observed relationship between problem posing and problem solving among Chinese elementary school children. Results confirmed that there was indeed a close relationship between both skills.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the current status of ethics education in science and technology for pre-service science teachers and find out their recognition on the needs for ethics education at school. A survey was administered for this study and a total of 594 pre-service science teachers studying in college/university of education participated. The survey was organized to examine participants' 1) experience in ethics education in science and technology, 2) recognition on the needs of ethics education in science and technology, and 3) the need for it in elementary and secondary school. Each item was responded using either 1 to 5 Likert type scale, multiple choices, or open questionnaires. The results showed that 37.4% of participants obtain science technology information from the mass media, and 23.5% from the school education. Only 8.4% of the participants had the experience of taking class on ethics in science and technology. In terms of level of confidence in understanding the ethical issues in science and technology, the average response was 2.73. However, their perception on the needs of the ethics education ranges from 3.34 to 4.58, which is much stronger than other responses on average. This strong perception on the needs was much higher for pre-service science teachers for elementary school, than those of the secondary school(p<.05). All participants recognized the need for ethics education in science and technology at both elementary and secondary school. In responses for which subject should provide ethical issues on science and technology, science class was most frequently suggested (62.4%), followed by ethics class (29.1%). In responses for the most efficient form of learning, they suggested that case studies (43.5%), followed by discussions (41.4%) would be an efficient way to learn. Even in the responses of open questionnaires asking for efficient ways of learning ethical issues, participants suggested that discussions on various ethical issues on the cases in the science and technology would provide practical and substantial learning.

  • High school credit system refers to a system in which a student selects the desired content according to his/her subject and completes accumulated credits to reach graduation when a certain standard is reached. The purpose of this study is to identify the advantages and disadvantages to the technology and home economics education after the introduction of the high school credit system by analyzing the status of high school elective subjects in technology and home economics areas, and the perceptions and needs of teachers and experts as the introduction of the high school credit system approaches. A survey was conducted to all professors in the Department of Home Economics Education or Technology Education, along with a national sample of the secondary school teachers of Home Economics and Technology, and responses of 282 teachers and 36 experts were analyzed. Results are as follows: First, in general high schools, the formation and operation of elective courses in technical and home economics were very insufficient. Second, there was a large number of requests for the expansion of elective courses in technology and home economics among the high school teachers. Third, in order to take advantage of the high school credit system, it was recognized that elective courses in technology and home economics should be established not only in consideration of secondary school education, but in relation to their connections with majors in universities. Improving the structure of electives in this direction is expected to play a positive role in allowing elective courses in technology and home economics to contribute to ensuring students' free choice.

  • This study examines the factors affecting the usage and diffusion of mobile easy payment services which is fast growing industry recently. After wide reviewing previous research about mobile payment, Some factors are identified as the factors influencing intention to use mobile easy payment services-confidence, innovativeness, mobile self-efficacy, relative advantage- through several mediating factors- perceived ease, perceived usefulness, perceived risk. Empirical study for a research model showed confidence, mobile self-efficacy and relative advantage are effective to the intention to use mobile easy payment services via perceived usefulness and perceived risk. Based on the results of the study, some practical implication for customer retention and acquisition are suggested.

  • This study aimed to investigate flow measurement by using a 'bucket and stop-watch' method of flow measurement. Most flow measurement systems measure pressure or other fluid properties to infer flow rate, though time is a variable which can be easily and very accurately measured. The main principle behind the method was to fill up a reservoir until a set pressure had been reached. This reservoir would then be emptied and the cycle would repeat itself. The prototype was designed to control flow rate using the method. It made use of computer control with an analogue digital converter and fast acting solenoid valves which controlled the flow into a reservoir. Reservoirs were available with internal diameter of 1mm up to 5.5mm to cope with a range of flow rate.

  • The telemedicine & distance education system that this paper suggests has been designed on the CTE(Collaborative Telemedicine & distance Education) framework, which is an integrated multimedia environment. This is a CBM-based collaborative telemedicine & distance education type, different from the conventional doctor based general practice, and is an integrated multimedia telemedicine & distance education system capable of many application developments using information super highway. This paper presents the content regarding electronic medical examination chart and data treatment for efficient medical examination and prompt treatment by realizing mutual conversation type remote medical examination system among 3 parties(patient, doctor, pharmacist) on internet base. And, The implementation of this new teaming system should be designed with multimedia application development platform base which is interfaced with computer engineering, computer network technology, CSCW (Computer-Supported Cooperative Work) technology, and education engineering.

  • This research is the descriptive survey research targeting construction workers for searching a vitalization method on safety education by understanding the real condition of the sense of safety consciousness and the condition of safety education. The collected data of 147 workers are analyzed by using arithmetic mean, t-test, and ANOVA Analysis of Variance through SPSS PC program. This research investigated the real condition of safety consciousness, recognition on safety education, and the differences of safety consciousness depend on the general characteristic of subject. According to the result of the study, development of standardized safety consciousness assessment tool and institutionalization of safety education program is needed.

  • In recent years, the emergence of virtual reality (VR Virtual Reality) technology has provided a new model of safety education, enabling users to learn and respond to disasters in a virtual safety education environment. However, the related VR products related to domestic and foreign R & D are relatively simple, there is no practical training on specific accident, and it is not practical enough to play a sufficient role in safety education. In this paper, the problems and disadvantages of VR technology applied in the field of automobile safety education as an example of automobile accident among the types of disasters are examined, and a system framework of automotive safety education based on VR technology is proposed. The vehicle safety education system proposed in this paper will help users to improve driving safety consciousness, to acquire safety knowledge in driving, and to acquire driving safety skill which is very important for automobile safety education. In addition, the design and production methods of safety education based on VR technology are considered to have important reference implications for the application of modern teaching and teaching theory by integrating with VR technology and developing related teaching materials products and finally introducing education.

  • The Caenorhabditis elegans peroxidasins, PXN-1 and PXN-2, are extracellular peroxidases; pxn-2 is involved in muscle-epidermal attachment during embryonic morphogenesis and in specific axon guidance. Here we investigate potential roles of the other homologue of peroxidasin, pxn-1, in C. elegans. A pxn-1 deletion mutant showed high lethality under heat-stress conditions. Using a transcriptional GFP reporter, pxn-1 expression was observed in various tissues including neurons, muscles, and hypodermis. A translational fusion showed that PXN-1::GFP was secreted and localized in extracellular matrix, particularly along body wall muscles and pharyngeal muscles. Various neuronal developmental defects were observed in pxn-1 mutants and in pxn-1 over-expressing animals, including handedness, branching, breakage, tangling, and defasciculation. These results suggest that pxn-1, like other peroxidasins, plays an important role throughout development.
