  • The meat consumption per person has continuously increased in recent years. However, the labor force in the domestic livestock industry has decreased due to the declining and ageing population. In order to increase productivity, the government have developed and distributed design standard of livestock houses. Presently, report showed that the adaptation rate of the developed livestock house design standard on the real farm was still low. Thus, this paper aimed to find ways to improve the utilization of the design standard through surveys. The survey was conducted on 650 farms across the country. Analysis of the result showed that in the poultry house, the unawareness of farmers to the design standard was found to be the biggest reason for not using the design standards. On the other hand, in the swine house, the previously built swine houses do not fit with the design standard. From these result, the following recommendations were suggested: 1) promotion and education are needed to enhance usage of design standard; 2) since it is impossible to make a design standard considering all the farm sites, it is important to consider the conditions of various farm site prior to enhancement of the design standard; 3) improvement factors such as reinforcing the ventilation design, reflecting animal welfare, preventing livestock diseases, and enhancing ICT devices can also be promoted.

  • The pound net fishery is very important one in Korean coastal fishery and it need to grasp the characteristics of the net affected by many factors. It is considered that the structure and the shape of the pound net can be changed by the direction and speed of current, wave height, depth and conditions of sea bed. However, most of all, the speed of current and wave height influence more upon the pound net than any other factors to deform and flutter. In this study, author carried out the experiments with a model of double one-side pound net made by the similarity law as 1:100 scales at a real experimental area, and additionally the model net experiments were conducted in the circulating water channel in Pukyong National University. The author analyzed the data of transformation of shape and tension of the model pound net to recognize the characteristics of the current and wave acting on it. Regardless of the direction of flow affecting on the fish court net or bag net, the deformed angle and depth to the side panel and bottom of box nets becomes bigger as the wave gets higher and the period of wave is faster. The tension in both upward or downward tends to be changed by the speed of wave. Those value of changes occurred similarly in either fish court net or bag net. Generally, when bag net is located at upward of flow, the value of tension was bigger 10% than any other location or nets. Regardless of the setting direction, the tension of the pound net is increased in proportion to flow speed, wave height and period of wave, and it becomes bigger about 15-30% at upward to flow than downward. Where the flow is upward in the court net, the tension in the wave increased to 37% compared to the one in the flow only in the condition of flow of 0.1-0.3m/s. Where the flow is upward in the bag net, the tension in the wave increased to 52% in the flow of 0.1m/s, and the tension increased to 48% in the flow of 0.2-0.3m/s.

  • This study aims to provide the research for dental technician's stress prevention and management with basic materials by understanding dental technician's psychosocial stress level and examining relevant factors. The subject of this study is 255 dental technologists who work mainly in Seoul Gyeonggi district for a month of April of 2009 and I conducted cross-sectional study through self administered survey. The contents of survey include general feature, occupational feature, health behavior feature. I used Karasek's Job Content Questionnaire, JCQ and Psychosocial well-being index, PWI-SF as means of measurement. To compare the level of dental technician's psychosocial stress, I conducted t-test and ANOVA and I measured the factors that are related with psychosocial stress symptom with step by step multiple regressive analysis. According to the result of Cronbach's a value which is yielded to verify the reliability of means of measurement, the reliability of concept is sufficient. The detailed result of this study is as follows. 1. According to the result of analyzing the stress symptom in accordance with general feature and occupational feature, those dental technologists who are older and not married, graduate from junior college, have lower position, work at university hospital or general hospital show lower stress(p<0.05). There is no difference in the level of psychosocial stress with regard to duty related feature, period of service, daily average working hours, monthly average pay. 2. With regard to health behavior feature, those dental technologists who control weight better and have meal more regularly show lower stress(p<0.05). Those dental technicians who smoke, drink liquid and take a suitable sleep show low stress but the difference does not have significance statistically. 3. With regard to the factors of stress in the workplace, those dental technicians who have lower duty related requirement, have higher duty related control ability, have higher social support, have less instability of employment and have less workload and physical burden show lower stress(p<0.05). 4. According to the result of analyzing the factors that influence dental technologist's stress symptom, social support has the most enormous influence on stress symptom. Unstable employment, regular exercise, regular eating, daily average sleeping hours and technological capacity are also important in this order. According to the result of this study, those dental technicians who have higher social support, less instability of employment, do exercise more regularly, take enough sleep more soundly and have higher technological capacity show lower psychosocial stress symptom. Therefore, to adjust appropriately the dental technician's stress and properly maintain and improve the dental technician's mental health, effective management plan that enables dental technicians to maintain smooth human relationships for dental technicians should be sought. In addition, heath education and health management for dental technicians should be given more thoroughly so that they can establish desirable health behavior in daily life.

  • Enhanced machine reliability has dramatically reduced the rate and number of railway accidents but for further reduction human error should be considered together that accounts for about 20% of the accidents. Therefore, the objective of this study was to suggest a new taxonomy of performance shaping factors (PSFs) that could be utilized to identify the causes of a human error associated with railway accidents. Four categories of human factor, task factor, environment factor, and organization factor and 14 sub-categories of physical state, psychological state, knowledge/experience/ability, information/communication, regulation/procedure, specific character of task, infrastructure, device/MMI, working environment, external environment, education, direction/management, system/atmosphere, and welfare/opportunity along with 131 specific factors was suggested by carefully reviewing 8 representative published taxonomy of Casualty Analysis Methodology for Maritime Operations (CASMET), Cognitive Reliability and Error Analysis Method (CREAM), Human Factors Analysis and Classification System (HFACS), Integrated Safety Investigation Methodology (ISIM), Korea-Human Performance Enhancement System (K-HPES), Rail safety and Standards Board (RSSB), $TapRoot^{(R)}$, and Technique for Retrospective and Predictive Analysis of Cognitive Errors (TRACEr). Then these were applied to the case of the railway accident occurred between Komo and Kyungsan stations in 2003 for verification. Both cause decision chart and why-because tree were developed and modified to aid the analyst to find causal factors from the suggested taxonomy. The taxonomy was well suited so that eight causes were found to explain the driver's error in the accident. The taxonomy of PSFs suggested in this study could cover from latent factors to direct causes of human errors related with railway accidents with systematic categorization.

  • The purpose of this study was to provide basic data for the improvement of the guidelines and training programs regarding the cardiopulmonary resuscitation performance of bystanders who can respond to the incidents in earlier times as the first responder of the cardiac arrest incident, by reviewing the performance of basic CPR and the influencing factors after providing 70 students of Department of Emergency Medical Technology with the CPR training. For the purpose of the study, the collected data were computerized and analyzed by SPSS-WIN program(ver. 10.1). The results for this study were as follows The duration of session between the groups in the BLS CPR were 3 minutes and 36 seconds, 2 minutes and 32 seconds respectively. The average compression number per minute were 24.3 times and 33,2 times respectively(p=.000), and the average compression rate per minute were 112 times and 122 times respectively(p=.000). The average ventilation number per minute were 3.54 times and 5.1 times respectively(p=.000). The errors in compression "Too shallow" were 20.73 times(34.6%) and 23,23 times(38,7%) out of 60 times in 4 cycles with the standard of 38 nun. In CPR performance results according to gender in the first episode, males showed better results in compression depth as 41.5 mm comparing to females average 38.2 mm(p=.015). When ventilation results were compared according to the use of FS, the average ventilation number per minute, total ventilation per minute and the average volume per episode were significantly higher when FS was not used(<.040), There was no significant difference in ventilation accuracy between two groups. According to the results, we need to improve and distribute portable barrier devices, and to be familiar with those devices. We need to enforce ventilations as well as to include compressions so that faster and more accurate CPR can be performed. Additionally, we need to exclude ventilation only cases, minimize the interference time of chest compression due to inaccurate ventilation, simplify or minimize the complicatedness of CPR performance and responding time related to breathing, provide first responders with various training programs such as initial assessment and ventilations only, or initial assessment and chest compression-only CPR and than provide advanced training with AHA BLS education including CPR for more than two people according to CPR skills and target characteristics.

Results were obtained through the study as follows: 1. There are 14 junior health colleges in Korea and 3,106(79.9%) licensed dental technicians out of 3,885 graduated from health colleges and rest of them obtained their licenses through practical training in dental clinics. 2. 8,030 applicants have applied to the national examination which was carried out for 22 times during 1965 - 1985. The passing rate in the examination for 22 times showed 48.3% in average. 3. The dental technicians are working mostly in 404 dental laboratories and 2,522 dental clinics and hospitals through out the country. However, most technicians are dominantly working in large citis, because 255 (63.1%) dental laboratories and 1,537 (60.9%) dental clinics and hospitals are mainly located in Seoul and Busan. 4. Regarding distribution of the dental technician, 1,126(52.1%) technicians have been employed in the dental institutions, however, 530 (24.5%) could not have a job and the rest of them (504 technicians: 23.3%) were in leave absence from military service, travelling abroad and unknown reasons. 5. Through reference review, it was found that there were 95,886 dental technician (9/ 100,000 population) in the world during 1973$\sim$1977. However, 91,553 dental technicians lived in the developed countries (14/100,000 population)) also ratio between the dentist and the dental technician in the world showde 1:0.38. In such coentries where per capita income showed $100 in average, the distribution of the dental technician showed 0.272 per 100,000 population. 6. In an estimation of demand and supply for the dental technicians by the year from 1985 through 1996 in Korea, the supply is estimated by the capacity of educational institutions as over-production even through such estimation based on the future incresing of GNP and ratio between the dentist and the dental technicianas and also ratio between the dental technician and general population. At present such ratio shows less compared with the developed contries, however, it is estimated as over-supply in 1994.

  • This study aims to analyze the key legal issues of the Serious Accidents Punishment Act (SAPA), which came into effect on 2022, in South Korea, and to propose practical occupational safety and health management strategies for business executives. The SAPA was introduced to prevent serious industrial accidents and protect workers' lives and safety. However, its effectiveness has been controversial due to the ambiguity of the law and uncertainty in its application. The study first provides an overview of the SAPA's main provisions and analyzes legal issues focusing on the punishment of business executives and the punitive damages system. Key issues identified include the ambiguity of "safety and health obligations," difficulties in proving causality, and unclear criteria for determining intent or gross negligence. Recent cases of serious accidents are examined to illustrate practical challenges in applying the law. Furthermore, the study compares the punitive damages system under the SAPA with that of the Product Liability Act and similar systems in the United States, United Kingdom, and Germany. This comparative analysis highlights the characteristics and problems of the Korean system, such as the unclear punitive nature, controversy over excessive compensation, and potential for abuse of litigation. Finally, the study proposes practical occupational safety and health management strategies for business executives to effectively respond to the SAPA and create safer workplaces. Key strategies include establishing a safety and health management system, conducting risk assessments, implementing safety education, managing subcontractor safety, and investing in safety and health.
