  • The time to address the exabytes of data has come as the information age accelerates. Big data transfer technology is essential for processing large amounts of data. This paper posits to transfer big data in the optimal conditions by the proposed algorithm for predicting the optimal combination of Pipelining, Concurrency, and Parallelism (PCP), which are major functions of GridFTP. In addition, the author introduced a simple design process of Takagi-Sugeno-Kang (TSK) fuzzy model and designed a model for predicting transfer throughput with optimal combination of Pipelining, Concurrency and Parallelism. Hence, the author evaluated the model of the proposed algorithm and the TSK model to prove the superiority.

  • A heated square cylinder (with height $A^*$) is kept parallel to the cold wall at a fixed gap height $0.5A^*$ from the wall. Another adiabatic rectangular cylinder (of same height $A^*$ and width $0.5A^*$) is placed upstream in an inline tandem arrangement. The spacing between the two cylinders is fixed at $3.0A^*$. The inlet flow is taken as Couette-Poiseuille flow based non-linear velocity profile. The conventional fluid (also known as base fluid) is chosen as water (W) whereas the nanoparticle material is selected as $Al_2O_3$. Numerical simulations are performed by using SIMPLE algorithm based Finite Volume approach with staggered grid arrangement. The dependencies of hydrodynamic and heat transfer characteristics of the cylinder on non-dimensional parameters governing the nanofluids and the fluid flow are explored here. A critical discussion is made on the mechanism of improvement/reduction (due to the presence of the upstream cylinder) of heat transfer and drag coefficient, in comparison to those of an isolated cylinder. It is observed that the heat transfer increases with the increase in the non-linearity in the incident velocity profile at the inlet. For the present range studied, particle concentration has a negligible effect on heat transfer.

  • Recent experiments show the existence of spacer grid improves the heat removal from the fuel rods during the reflood phase of LOCA. The local heat transfer within and downstream of the grid is increased due to the earlier quenching than rod surface, shattering of the entrained droplets into smaller ones which can be more easily evaporated and enhanced turbulent effect. Therefore, the consideration of these phenomena is necessary for the DFFB regime which prevails above the water level during the reflood. In this paper, droplet breakup model at spacer grid has been developed and incorporated into RELAP5/MOD2. Verification calculations are carried out for FEBA tests which examine the thermalhydraulic performance of grid spacer during reflood.

  • Honeycomb-shaped Ag-grid transparent conductive electrodes (TCEs) were fabricated using two different processes, high density plasma etching and lift-off, and the optical and electrical properties were compared according to the fabrication method. For the fabrication of the Ag-grid TCEs by plasma etching, etch characteristics of the Ag thin film in $10CF_4/5Ar$ inductively coupled plasma (ICP) discharges were studied. The Ag etch rate increased as the power increased at relatively low ICP source power or rf chuck power conditions, and then decreased at higher powers due to either decrease in $Ar^+$ ion energy or $Ar^+$ ion-assisted removal of the reactive F radicals. The Ag-grid TCEs fabricated by the $10CF_4/5Ar$ ICP etching process showed better grid pattern transfer efficiency without any distortion or breakage in the grid pattern and higher optical transmittance values of average 83.3 % (pixel size $30{\mu}m/line$ width $5{\mu}m$) and 71 % (pixel size $26{\mu}m/line$ width $8{\mu}m$) in the visible range of spectrum, respectively. On the other hand, the Ag-grid TCEs fabricated by the lift-off process showed lower sheet resistance values of $2.163{\Omega}/{\square}$ (pixel size $26{\mu}m/line$ width $18{\mu}m$) and $4.932{\Omega}/{\square}$ (pixel size $30{\mu}m/line$ width $5{\mu}m$), respectively.

  • This paper proposes a hybrid ESS that integrates an energy storage system (ESS) with an uninterruptible power supply (UPS). The hybrid ESS has a demand management and emergency power supply function while increasing the battery utilization of the UPS, which has just been used in a power failure. In addition to the critical load, the proposed system augments the capacity of emergency generation using an additional load, which has voltage and frequency-dependent characteristics to the grid side. The control algorithm of the AC-DC converter and bidirectional DC-DC converter is proposed for demand management and emergency power supply. Furthermore, seamless and autonomous transfer methods to alleviate the transient during mode transfer are proposed. To validate the proposed control scheme, experimental results from a 5 kW prototype are provided.

  • Three-dimensional structures of a vortical flow field and heat transfer characteristics in a partially blocked 7-pin fuel assembly mock-up of sodium-cooled fast reactor have been investigated through a numerical analysis using a commercial computational fluid dynamics code, ANSYS CFX. The simulation with the SST turbulence model agrees well with the experimental data of outlet and cladding wall temperatures. From the analysis on the limiting streamline at the wall, multi-scale vortexes developed in axial direction were found around the blockage. The vortex core has a high cladding wall temperature, and the attachment line has a low cladding wall temperature. The small-scale vortex structures significantly enhance the convective heat transfer because it increases the turbulent mixing and the turbulence kinetic energy. The large-scale vortex structures supply thermal energy near the heated cladding wall surface. It is expected that control of the vortex structures in the fuel assembly plays a significant role in the convective heat transfer enhancement. Furthermore, the blockage plate and grid spacer increase the pressure drop to about 36% compared to the bare case.

  • After a severe accident to the nuclear reactor, the in-vessel retention strategy is a key way to prevent the leakage of radioactive material. Nanofluid is a steady suspension used to improve heat-transfer characteristics of working fluids, formed by adding solid particles with diameters below 100nm to the base fluids, and its thermal physical properties and heat-transfer characteristics are much different from the conventional working fluids. Thus, nanofluids with appropriate nanoparticle type and volume concentration can enhance the heat-transfer process. In this study, the moving particle semi-implicit method-meshless advection using flow-directional local grid method is used to simulate the bubble growth, departure, and sliding on the downward-facing heating surface in pure water and nanofluid (1.0 vol.% $Al_2O_3/H_2O$) flow boiling processes; additionally, the bubble critical departure angle and sliding characteristics and their influence are also investigated. The results indicate that the bubble in nanofluid departs from the heating surface more easily and the critical departure inclined angle of nanofluid is greater than that of pure water. In addition, the influence of nanofluid on bubble sliding is not significant compared with pure water.

  • This work proposes a control method of frequency stabilization for grid integration of large-scale wind farms via the voltage source converter-based high-voltage direct current (VSC-HVDC) technology. First, the topology of grid integration of a large-scale wind farm via the VSC-HVDC link is provided, and simple control strategies for wind turbines, wind farm side VSC (WFVSC), and grid side VSC are presented. Second, a mathematical model between the phase angle of WFVSC and the frequency of the wind farm is established. The control principle of the large-scale wind power integrated system is analyzed in theory in accordance with the mathematical model. Third, frequency and AC voltage controllers of WFVSC are designed based on the mathematical model of the relationships between the phase angle of WFVSC and the frequency of the wind farm, and between the modulation index of WFVSC and the voltage of the wind farm. Corresponding controller structures are established by deriving a transfer function, and an optimization method for selecting the parameters of the frequency controller is presented. Finally, a case study is performed under different operating conditions by using the DIgSILENT/PowerFactory software. Results show that the proposed control method has good performance in the frequency stabilization of the large-scale wind power integrated system via the VSC-HVDC technology.

  • To substitute indium tin oxide (ITO), many substituents have been studied such as metal nanowires, carbon based materials, 2D materials, and conducting polymers. These materials are not good enough to apply to an electrode because theses exhibit relatively high resistance. So metal grids are required as an additionalelectrode to improve the conductivities of substituents. The metal grids were printed by electrohydrodynamic printing system using Ag nanoparticle based ink. The Ag grids showed high uniformity and the line width was about $10{\mu}m$. The Ag nanoparticles are surrounded by dispersants such as unimolecular and polymer to prevent aggregation between Ag nanoparticles. The dispersants lead to low conductivity of Ag grids. Thus, the sintering process of Ag nanoparticles is strongly recommended to remove dispersants and connect each nanoparticles. For sintering process, the interface and microstructure of the Ag grid were controlled in 1.0 torr Ar atmosphere at aound $400^{\circ}C$ of temperature. From the sintering process, the uniformity of the Ag grid was improved and the defects on the Ag grids were reduced. As a result, the resistivity of Ag grid was greatly reduced up to $5.03({\pm}0.10){\times}10^{-6}{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$. The metal grids embedded substrates containing low pressure Ar sintered Ag grids showed 90.4% of transmittance in visible range with $0.43{\Omega}/{\square}$ of sheet resistance.

  • This paper proposes the 80-kW high-efficiency bidirectional hybrid SiC boost/buck converter using droop control for DC nano-grid. The proposed converter consists of four 20-kW modules to achieve fault tolerance, ease of thermal management, and reduced component stress. Each module is constructed as a cascaded structure of the two basic bi-directional converters, namely, interleaved boost and buck converters. A six-pack hybrid SiC intelligent power module (IPM) suitable for the proposed cascaded structure is adopted for high-efficiency and compactness. The proposed converter with hybrid switching method reduces the switching loss by minimizing switching of insulated gate bipolar transistor (IGBT). Each module control achieves smooth transfer from buck to boost operation and vice versa, since current controller switchover is not necessary. Furthermore, the proposed parallel control using DC droop with secondary control, enhances the current sharing accuracy while well regulating the DC bus voltage. A 20-kW prototype of the proposed converter has been developed and verified with experiments and indicates a 99.3% maximum efficiency and 98.8% rated efficiency.
