  • In recent years, through the rapid development in personal computer technology, it has become possible to make a radar simulator based on the personal computer. The advantage of the personal Computer aidd radar simulator lies in its cost effectiveness, when comparing with that using the real radar. Although there have been studies carried out to develop radar simulator using PC and the products of thi kind is in the commercial market already, they are all using the mockup of the real radar, and therefore, the price of the simulator is still rather expensive. In this respect, this thesis aims to develop a ARPA radar simulator which is running on the sole PC, so that the students of the maritime educational institution may get ARPA radar training easily and cheaply. The simulator developed in this thesis using Visual Basic is found to run successfully on the 486PC, and it is expected that this new simulator system designed first time in Korea would be used as an easily accessible ARPA radar training equipment.

  • Since the RCS(Radar Cross Section) of target is important factor to determine radar performance, it is important to locate radar where large RCS is observed. However, the distance between the target and the radar is an important factor of the received power, as well as RCS. In this paper, it is calculated that received power from ballistic missile to radar based on different observed position and it is studied that to place radar for high detection efficiency.

  • As observed in the recent war, suppression of enemy air defense operation is one of the major tactics, simultaneously conducted with high payoff target. Specifically, our air defense operation should be properly constructed, since the operating environment of our forces mostly consists with mountainous terrain, which makes detections of the enemy difficult. The effective arrangements of low altitude air defense radars can be suggested as a way of improving the detection capability of our forces. In this paper, we consider the location problem of low altitude air defense radar, and formulate it as an Integer Programming. Specifically, we surveyed the previous researches on facility location problems and applied two particularly relevant models(MCLP, MEXCLP) to our problem. The terrain factor was represented as demand points in the models. We verified the optimal radar locations for operational situations through simulation model which depicts simple battle field. In the simulation model, the performance of optimal radar locations are measured by the enemy detection rate. With a series of experiments, we may conclude that when locating low altitude air defense radars, it is important to consider the detection probability of radar. We expect that this finding may be helpful to make a more effective air defense plan.

  • The coordinate system conversion of weather radar data is a basic and important process because it can be a factor to measure the accuracy of radar precipitation rate by comparison with the ground rain gauge. We proposed a real-time coordinate system conversion method that combines the advantages of the interpolation masks of SPRINT and REORDER to use tables of predetermined radar samples for each interpolated object coordinate and also distance weights for each precomputed sample. Experimental results show that the proposed method improves the computation speed more than 20~30 times compared with the conventional method and shows that the deterioration of image quality is hardly ignored.

  • Radar signal simulation is increasingly gaining in importance according as modem radar systems are more complex. Although computer performance has been advanced, it is difficult to implement the real-time simulation because the detailed model for the radar is necessary to get the desired accuracy. In order to achieve real time operation, we propose radar signal generation technique using ambiguity function, Instead of wellknown correlation method. The ambiguity function is the mathematical modeling of the signal processing procedure which is a simulation section to require the most computations.

  • This paper presents a technology of information data fusion between radar and ELINT electronic intelligence system. adar get the information of the range, direction and velocity of targets, and ELINT system get the information of the direction and angular velocity of the same targets at the same place and at the same time. Since we have some common information data of targets from radar and ELINT system, we can find the target on radar is same or not on ELINT system using the information data fusions. If the target on the radar is verified with the same target on ELINT system, we get more information of the target. e can analysis and identify the target exactly and reduce an ambiguity error of unknown targets.

  • A wave buoy commonly used for measurements in marine environments is very useful for measurements on the sea surface wind and waves. However, it is constantly exposed to external forces such as typhoons and the risk of accidents caused by ships. Therefore, the installation and maintenance charges are large and constant. In this study, we developed a system for monitoring the sea surface wind using marine radar to provide spatial and temporal information about sea surface waves at a small cost. The essential technology required for this system is radar signal processing. This paper also describes the analytical process of using it for monitoring the sea surface wind. Consequently, developing this system will make it possible to replace wave buoys in the near future.

  • For performance improving of C-band radar altimeter used in a missile system, Ku-band radar altimeter is developed. To utilize the time delay devices which are used in testing C-band radar altimeter, we proposed C-band and Ku-band frequency conversion method and implemented it as a part of missile system test equipment. In this paper we present design contents, development results and test application results of radar altimeter test equipments.

  • In this paper, we have described a Simulated Radar Target Generation Equipment(SRTGE) for evaluating the performance of a developed radar system. In order to change a simulated target range(or time delay), the variable optical delay line structure is used in SRTGE, In addition, SRTGE is required to generate a target return signal which is composed of variable amplitude and Doppler velocity. The interference such as noise jamming and clutter is also produced from SRTGE for evaluating ECCM(Electronic-Counter-Counter Measure) capability of radar.

  • This paper considers the ability of counting and positioning multi-targets by using a mobile UWB radar device. After a background subtraction process, distinguishing between clutters and human body signals, the position of targets will be computed using weighted Gaussian mixture methods. While computer vision offers many advantages, it has limited performance in poor visibility conditions (e.g., at night, haze, fog or smoke). UWB radar can provide a complementary technology for detecting and tracking humans, particularly in poor visibility or through-wall conditions. As we know, for 2D measurement, one method is the use of at least two receiver antennas. Another method is the use of one mobile radar receiver. This paper tried to investigate the position detection of the stationary human body using the movement of one UWB radar module.
