In order to understand response of geo-structures to the freezing-thawing process in the ground, it is necessary to consider phase change of the pore water of the ground and also to understand soil interaction with structures. In this study, numerical analysis was carried out for freezing and thawing effect on the modular road system. Neumann's theoretical equation for freezing-thawing processes in porous media can be used to estimate frozen depth and heaving from basic soil properties and ground and surface temperature, but its application is limited to the case for the sediment with fully saturated condition and zero unfrozen water content. Numerical analysis of the modular road system was performed on various soil types and different ground water table as the varying freezing index. The amount of heaving in the silty soil was much larger than those in granite weathered soil or sandy soil, and lowering groundwater level reduced ground heaving induced by freezing. Numerical analysis for temperature history of the ground surface predicted residual heaving near the surface by the freeze-thaw process in silty soil. It ought to reduce stiffness and bearing capacity of the ground so that it will impair stability and serviceability of new road system. However, the amount of residual heaving was insignificant for the road system installed in weathered soil granite and sandy soil. Since modular road system is a pavement structure mounted on the supporting substructure unlike the prevalent road pavement system, strict criteria should be applied for uniform and differential settlement of the pavement system.
The quality and physicochemical characteristics of the soybean flours after germination and roasting were evaluated to partly fulfill the purpose of establishing quality standards of soybean flours for each of their applications. Moisture content of roasted soybean flours decreased significantly based on the roasting conditions, and crude ash, protein, and fat content increased. Water binding capacity increases with an increase in roasting temperature and time; however, water solubility index and swelling power decreased. The lightness of roasted soybean flour decreased significantly, and its redness and yellowness increased in intensity. Phenolic compounds and radical scavenging activity of roasted soybean flour increased with an increase in roasting temperature and time. 2,2'-Azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulphonic acid) radical scavenging activity of roasted soybean flour without and with germination was 380.88-537.32 and 419.34-587.99 mg TE/100 g, respectively. Consequently, it is necessary to set quality standards for each application, considering the quality and antioxidant properties of roasted soybean flours.

In this study, tuna sawdust was added to extruded meat analog in order to develop a meat analog with high quality. Addition of tuna sawdust has merit for utilizing a byproduct from poultry processing. Physicochemical characteristics were examined through the extrusion cooking process. The basic mixture of sample mixed with 65% deffated soy flour 25% isolated soy protein, and 10% corn starch was setup as the raw material. Three kinds of samples were made in total by addition of 15% and 30% tuna sawdust to this mixture. The extrusion process had a screw speed of 250 rpm, die temperature of $140^{\circ}C$, and moisture content of 50%. As addition of tuna sawdust increased, breaking strength and density decreased, specific length increased, and integrity and water holding capacity decreased. Likewise, nitrogen solubility index and protein digestibility decreased as addition of tuna sawdust increased. DPPH radical scavenging activity increased as addition of tuna sawdust addition, whereas it decreased as storage period increased to 30 or 60 days. The value of rancidity decreased as addition of tuna sawdust increased. However, 60 days later, radical scavenging activity increased more or less, and a significant difference was detected 150 days later. In conclusion, addition of tuna sawdust increased soft texture, and nutrition of the basic mixture sample. The process promoting functionality such as improvement of antioxidant function was confirmed through this study.
Objectives : Trend of R&D of herbal medicine for dementia treatment was examined based on the quantitative information analysis for establishing the national strategy of research on dementia treatment with oriental medicine. Methods : Definition was made to clarify the technology for development of herbal medicine for dementia treatment. Based on the initial keyword provided by experts in the field, queries were compounded to conduct search in the search engines of WoS and DWPI. The raw data (papers or patents) extracted from the initial search were examined by expert-review before objects of analysis were determined. Then, the accumulated data was analyzed in terms of year, country and organization, which led to examination of the trend of R&D. And the research performance evaluation for dementia treatment technologies was also made in terms of country, organization and researcher based on the forward citation analysis. The international cooperation intensity was examined on the basis of analysis of network by researcher before analysis results were put together to select lead researchers. Results : According to the quantitative information analysis of 1,330 articles that were selected as analysis objects, the number of papers on natural products research for dementia treatment has increased by around 4.6 times in recent five years. This indicates that the intensive studies have been underway recently. It was found to be the US that had the highest level in research filed of herbal medicine for dementia treatment and the highest capacity of international cooperation for that purpose. On the contrary, Korea had the share of papers at 5.1%, the number of countries in cooperation research at 8, and the article quality index at 0.40, showing that the qualitative level was insufficient, compared to the quantitative outcome. In particular, Korea was found to have no intensity of international cooperation among researchers. In case of patent, the results of information analysis of 305 patents selected as analysis objects demonstrated that China had the highest share while Korea had the very low frequency of patent application quantitatively. Conclusions : In this study, the research to develop herbal medicine for dementia treatment has recently drawn much attention that has spread around the globe. Therefore, these results suggest establishing the strategy to develop technology for dementia treatment with oriental medicine in the future based on quantitative information analysis.

In this study, we designed pantothenic acid (PA) loaded solid lipid nanoparticles (SLNs) for enhanced skin penetration of PA that is used for moisturizing agent in cosmetics with hydrophilic property. SLNs were prepared using various lipids and surfactants. PA loaded SLNs were fabricated using double emulsion method. The fabricated PA loaded SLNs assessed particle size, polydispersity index, zeta potential, loading capacity. Skin penetration study was conducted using artificial skin tissue originated from human epidermis as one of the reconstructed human epidermis models. The mean particle size and zeta potential of SLNs ranged from 192.15 nm to 369.87 nm and -21.39 mV to -40.55 mV, respectively. The loading efficiency and loading amount of PA loaded SLNs were ranged from 44.36% to 57.16% and 12.60% to 16.36%, respectively. The results of penetration demonstrated that all SLNs improved PA skin penetration. In addition, the amount of PA from SLNs were approximately 3.8 - 8.8 times higher than that from PA solution. Therefore, the fabricated SLNs demonstrated the enhancment of skin penetration of PA. Particularly, the SLN, which used glyceryl behenate and Span 60, showed optimal skin penetration of PA.

The purpose of the current study was to investigate the effects of 4-week health promotion intervention program consisting of high-intensity aerobic exercise to improve energy consumption and cardiorespiratory capacity, circuit training to strengthen muscular strength and endurance and education for lifestyle changes on the obesity level, physical fitness, insulin resistance and metabolic syndrome among overweight or obese elementary school students. Twenty three overweight or obese children as obese group and 15 normal body weight children as normal group were recruited. The health promotion program consisted of two exercise sessions and one education session, 3days/week in 4-week. Obesity level(body mass index, waist circumference, %body fat), physical fitness(muscular strength, muscular endurance, flexibility, cardiopulmonary fitness), insulin resistance(homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance) and metabolic syndrome risk factors(blood pressure, fasting glucose, triglycerides, high density lipoprotein cholesterol) were measured. There was not significant decrease in obesity level; however, there were significant improvement in physical fitness, insulin resistance and metabolic syndrome risk factors after program participation among obese children. As a result, through participation in the summer camp consisting mainly of exercise, the improvement of the physical fitness level and the decrease of insulin resistance had an effect on the reduction of the metabolic syndrome frequency.

In the overseas plant construction market, the domain construction firms' construction capability has been greatly improved, but the capability of project management is evaluated to be insufficient compared to the technical aspect. Project management capabilities from the initial planning stage of project execution are regarded as the core competence of advanced construction companies. Among them, it is urgent to improve the capacity of conceptual estimate for domestic companies. In this study, the researchers surveyed and analyzed the methodology of estimating project cost in the planning phase of the plant project and developed an estimation method by conducting a case study analysis. Based on the logic of the cost index and parametric estimation method among the existing estimation methodology, the estimation tool was developed by deriving the input and output variables tailored to the plant project. The validity of the proposed methodology was evaluated by comparing the accuracy between the project estimate amount of the case project and the actual project amount. In order to increase the utilization of the developed conceptual estimate methodology,for plant construction project, it is necessary to systematize the data of the historical project data. Increasing the accuracy of future project cost estimates is directly related to increasing project award and profitability of the domestic construction company.
To test bee pollen as an ingredient for heat-processed foods, bee pollen was puffed under heat at various pressures and examined for its physicochemical properties and antioxidant activities. As the puffing intensity increased, the browning index, total reducing capacity, and DPPH radical scavenging activity of the bee pollen increased significantly (p<0.001). This was attributed to the formation of Maillard reaction products during the puffing process. The wheat flour-puff yeot-gangjeong added with puffed bee pollen showed significantly (p<0.01) higher antioxidant activities than its counterpart with raw bee pollen. In addition, the gangjeong retained the physicochemical characteristics of the puffed bee pollen such as color, soluble solids, titratable acidity, and pH. The results showed that the puffed bee pollen could potentially be used as an ingredient in thermally processed foods and retain its superior antioxidant properties.

In this study, sorption coefficients (${\log}K_{OC}$, n) for the binding of phenanthrene (PHE) to soil humins, insoluble fraction of soil humc substances (HS), were determined and relationship between the sorption coefficients and structural characteristics of the soil humins were investigated. The soil humins used in the present study were isolated from 7 different soils including 5 domestic soils, an IHSS standard and a peat soil, and characterized by elemental analysis and CPMAS $^{13}C$ NMR method. $^{13}C$ NMR spectral features indicate that the soil humins are mainly made up of aliphatic carbons (57.1~72.3% in total carbon) with high alkyl-C moiety, and the alkyl-C contents ($C_{Al-H,C}$, %) was in order of granite soil Hu (26~42%) > volcanic ash soil, HL Hu (23.9%) > Peat Hu (14.0%). The results of correlation study show that a positive relationship ($r^2$ = 0.77, p < 0.05) between organic carbon normalized-sorption coefficients ($K_{OC}$, mL/g) and alkyl-C contents($C_{Al-H,C}$, %), while negative relationship ($r^2$ = (-)0.74, p < 0.05) between Freundlich sorption parameter (n) and H,C-substituted aromatic carbon contents ($C_{Ar-H,C}$, %). The magnitude of $K_{OC}$ values are also negatively well correlated with polarity index (e.g., PI, N + O)/C) ($r^2$ = (-)0.74, p < 0.1). These results suggest that the binding capacity (e.g., $K_{OC}$) for PHE is increased in soil humin molecules having high contents of alkyl-C or lower polarity, and nonlinear sorption for PHE increased as the H,C-substituted aromatic carbon contents ($C_{Ar-H,C}$, %) in the soil humins increased. The PHE sorption characteristics on soil humins are discussed based on the dual reactive mode of sorption model.

In order to improve the quality of low-grade seasoned ribs, kiwi powder, pear powder and phosphates were studied. To seasoned ribs, 0.1%, 0.3% or 0.5% of kiwi powder was added and their MFI(Myofibrillar Fragmentation Index) values were 341.4, 368.3 and 405.1, respectively. As the amount of kiwi increased, MFI value increased(p<0.001). Also, when 0.5%, 1.0% or 3.0% of pear powder was added to seasoned ribs, their MFI values were increased as the addition levels of pear powder increased. As the amount of kiwi and pear powder were increased, WHC(Water Holding Capacity) decreased(p<0.001). On the other hand, as the amount of phosphates added increased, WHC increased. In drip loss, as the amount of kiwi and pear powder increased, it increased. However, drip loss was decreased as the amount of phosphates increased. For meat color, ‘L’ values of pear treatment groups were similar to those of control and ‘a’ values were higher in the treatment groups of 0.1${\sim}$0.3% kiwi powder, 0.5${\sim}$1.0% pear powder and 0.3${\sim}$0.5% phosphate than those of control. In sensory evaluation, treatment group of 0.3% kiwi powder and 0.5% phosphate showed the highest values in juiciness, tenderness and acceptability among the treatments(p<0.01).
