It has been criticized that there are discrepancy between 'general statements' of the curriculum and subject-matter curricula. The possible reasons for this are as follows: The developers of the general statements were educational curriculum specialists. These specialists were not good enough to develop general statements and guidelines of subject matter curricula reflecting the characteristics of science contents, to examine developed science curriculum, and to give feedback to science curriculum developers. Under the present curriculum developing system where curriculum is developed in ten months or less by the research team commissioned unpredictably and imminently, it might be difficult to develop valid and precise science curriculum reflecting the purport of the general statements and teachers' needs. The inadequacy of these curriculum development processes resulted in (1) inconsistent statement about the school year to be applied to differentiated curriculum, (2) abstract and ambiguous stating about the characteristics, teaching-learning and assessment guidelines of enrichment activities, and (3) failure to reduce science contents to a reasonable level. Therefore curriculum development centers should be designated in advance to do basic research at ordinary times, and organized into a cooperative system among them. Two years or more of developing time and wider participation of scientists are recommended to develop more valid and precise science curriculum. In addition, commentaries on science curriculum should be published before textbook writing begins.

The purpose of this study was to examine school-level science elective-centered curriculum operation and teachers' perception of their instruction of elective-centered science courses. Data were collected from 12 science teachers in 12 high schools in the metropolitan Seoul area through semi-constructed interviews. The results showed that students were supposed to select science subjects under insufficient guidance and their choices on subject were also restricted due to school administrative processes such as teacher's instructional time allocation. Participants were well-perceived different group characteristics among humanities course and science course students toward science learning, still, they felt difficulties in valuing students' variety by differentiating contents and teaching methodologies due to school assessment system and workload of extra instructional material preparation. Influenced by the current college entrance examination system, low motivation for humanities course students and students' choice concentrated in chemistry and life science for science course students, were pointed out as main problems. As a way to improve science education for 11th - 12th graders, developing customized science curriculum for humanities course and science course respectively, changing of entrance system into increasing importance of science for students who will major in non-science fields, and designations of essential prerequisite science subject for students who will major in engineering & science fields, were suggested.

This study has investigated the factors that make a science teacher effective by analyzing students' perception of teacher knowledge required in enhancing their science learning. The basic components of teacher knowledge identified by previous researchers have been confirmed through Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA). Based on the findings of the EFA, the questionnaire has been further analyzed using Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) by means of Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). In addition, the differences in students' perception on the identified factors of effectiveness have also been analyzed in terms of gender and achievement level. The findings of the EFA showed that five factors of science teacher effectiveness were identified; namely, substantive knowledge, syntactic knowledge, knowledge of students' understandings, knowledge of instructional strategies, and knowledge of assessment. These five components have been divided into two categories of teacher knowledge, SMK and PCK. What we found from the CFA was the respective high correlation between substantive and syntactic knowledge, knowledge of students' understanding and instructional strategies and the low correlation between substantive knowledge and knowledge of instructional strategies. Students perceived substantive knowledge as the most effective factor, knowledge of assessment as the least effective factor. Also, there have been considerable differences in students' perception by gender and achievement level. We proposed, based on the findings, that SMK and PCK need to be integrated into a coherent manner for the effective science teaching practice. This study provides some implications for science teacher professional development and the improvement of science teacher preparation program.

In this study, the trend of research and practice of science education for students with special educational needs was discussed in consideration of the aim of science education. Since the 1980s 'science for all' has been suggested as an important goal of science education and it has been pursued in the National Curriculum of Korea with differentiated teaching and learning approach. The meaning of 'science for all' should be expanded to science education for all students including minorities. However, comparing to 'normal' students, there have been relatively little researches and practices for those who need special educational supports as to meet their special talents or as to meet their special mental or physical challenges. Especially, the efforts for handicapped students or students with special educational needs (SEN) have been deficient in comparison to that of talented or gifted students. In this study the authors introduced the history and procedures of a 'Science Fair of Hope' with SEN students as an example of practice of science education for all, and then described the change among pre-service science teachers' attitudes towards disability and inclusive education, so as to discuss the practice and significance of science education for all students including SEN students.
This study was done to explore clinical competence and factors related to competence in dental hygiene students. This study performed a survey on such an issue from March 2 to June 12, 2015 for 329 dental hygiene students who were residing in Busan and Ulsan. In the result by the satisfaction of the major, there is the highest score in the satisfaction of the critical thinking, self-leadership, satisfaction in clinical practice and ability of clinical performance. The critical thinking reveals the positive relationship with the self-leader ship(r=0.884) and the ability of clinical performance(r=0.845). Whereas the self-leader ship show the negative relation with stress in clinical practice(r=-0.796). The most important factor affecting on the clinical competence among dental hygiene students was critical thinking(p<0.001), followed by self-leadership(p<0.01) and satisfaction of clinical practice(p<0.01). In results, the critical thinking, the self-leader ship and the satisfaction of clinical practice have an effects on the ability of clinical performance of the dental hygiene students. The teaching learning strategy and the educational programs to enhance the critical thinking and self-leader ship should be developed. Furthermore, the present study can be used as the base data for the systematic and convergence program to improve the satisfaction of clinical practice and the ability of clinical performance.
We can usually found the children who do overactive and aggressive behaviors. They disrupt classroom order and cause other children immense damage. Their teachers exert themselves to control or manage them in class. This may lead to a reduction of precious time for teaching-learning classroom activities. This study has counseled those children doing overactive and aggressive behaviors with solution-focused brief counseling. This study also explores the following problems. First, how does solution-focused brief counseling affect their overactive and aggressive behaviors? Second, what changes do they experience through solution-focused brief counseling? Third, is solution-focused brief counseling useful in elementary schools? To do this study task, four students have been chosen with the help of teachers in the fifth year at B Elementary School in Ansan. The four children scored high in Mi-hyun Han's 'The ratings of the child's behavior problems' and Se-Yong Jeong's 'Life of school and behavior test'. They are all eleven years old and had two interviews before the experiment and five interviews during the experiment. The analysis of the counseling has been interpreted according to the different analytical methods based on the tasks. Solution-focused brief counseling's effect on children doing overactive and aggressive behaviors has been studied by quantity-analysis method, their changes in behaviors by quality analysis method; phenomenal and psychological method and the usefulness of this counseling in school surroundings by the joint of above two methods. The analysis has provided the following results. First, solution-focused brief counseling has been effective in the reduction of behavioral problems for those children doing overactive and aggressive behaviors and the continuation of the counseling has had a positive effect but it has depended on the individual characteristics and the degree of severity in their behaviors. Second, solution-focused brief counseling has lent itself to encouraging children to have egostrength, confidence, and volition in their behavioral changes with a favorable attitude to the counseling. Third, The egostrength formed through counseling has led children to a progressive direction of their behaviors in their school life. The increasing frequency in counseling has caused a decreasing time-period expected for counseling, and a feasibility of counseling with less resistance. In conclusion, solution -focused brief counseling may be a useful means to help children have positive self-esteem and lead a proper school life, leading to be a helpful facilitation for school site facing a deficiency of counseling.

As the importance of knowledge is emphasized and the environment of battlefields is changing, the military also demands competent people equipped with creativity, cooperativeness and communication ability, and in this situation it is required to apply PBL to education in the navy. The present study went through three stages in order to develop a prototype to implement a naval e PBL support system for knowledge creation. First, databases in Korea Education and Research Information Service, National Assembly Library, etc. were searched using keywords such as PBL, e-PBL, knowledge creation and knowledge ecosystem. In addition, we selected and analyzed frequently quoted literature and recent research reports related to this study among domestic and foreign theses, books, research papers, etc. recommended by specialists in contents, and derived the key values of a knowledge creation type e-PBL support system and design strategies. Second, we developed a primary prototype based on the contents of analysis and, revising it according to teaching design specialists' opinions, we proposed the final prototype of knowledge creation type naval e PBL support system and it has values as follows. First, the knowledge creation type naval e PBL support system provides learners with opportunities to apply e PBL and helps them improve their creativity, cooperativeness and communication ability and accumulate know how of services. Second, it improves work efficiency by circulating knowledge through sharing among individuals or groups, and produces synergy that promotes the organizational culture of learning. Third, the knowledge creation type naval e-PBL support system enables teachers who apply PBL to school education to find new applications of PBL in constructing knowledge bases.

The purpose of this study was to examine the elements of green life education reflected in the Korean and Japanese secondary school Home Economics curricula. Although sustainable living at home has been emphasized as one of the main issues of Home Economics since the first curriculum period, green growth education has more reinforced in recent revised Home Economics Curricula of both countries. Thus the 2007 revised secondary school Home Economics Curriculum of Korea and 2008 revised middle school and 2009 revised high school Home Economics Curriculum of Japan were analyzed. The content analyses were done to examine the elements of green life education reflected in 'Characteristics and Objectives', 'Contents', and 'Teaching learning/Contents dealing Strategies' parts of the curriculum through two checking steps. The elements of green life education were included in all parts of the Home Economics Curricula of both countries except the 'Characteristics and Objectives' part of Japanese Curriculum. In both the Korean and Japanese Curricula, the element of green life was the most frequently and concretely reflected in the 'Contents' part, contrary to the 'Characteristics and Objectives' part where the element was the most rarely and abstractly reflected. The practical aspects of the green life education were more emphasized than the theoretical ones in both countries' curricula. The green life educational elements need to be included in all parts of Home Economics curriculum with concrete manner to ensure these elements to be reflected in Home Economics textbooks and to be actively implemented in classroom.

This study compares the perceptions of elementary gifted child and science teacher in a science class for the gifted. In order to explore the research problem, students and teachers answered a written semi-structured questionnaire and participated in interviews regarding the gifted science class. The data was collected and analyzed. Science teachers recognized the characteristics of a good science class, especially in terms of educational content and teaching methodology. First, they suggested promoting inquiry skills, presenting a challenging task in atypical topic selection, student-centered curriculum, and controlling the pace of learning to recognize individual differences. Second, in terms of the science class skills and attitudes category, teachers recommended raising mutual satisfaction through vigorous interaction within a permissible atmosphere. Finally, science teachers need to strive for continued professional growth. Gifted children, meanwhile, want to investigate a wide range of topics without time constraints. Additionally, they may have to explore challenging topics further. They prefer to act like scientists in that they enjoy group activities, communication and cooperation. In particular, they want to be evaluated by others in a totally embedded assessment. Gifted children also expect teachers to understand the life circumstances and needs of the students. In addition, they asked for teachers to respect individual experiments and to show them how to safely use new equipment or research methods. As a result, gifted children and science teachers have to recognize the differences of opinion concerning a good science class for the gifted. This study can help formulate strategies to establish quality management of materials in gifted science classes.
