In this study, we investigated the characteristics of pre-service science teachers' curriculum design for lessons using self-generated analogy. Three pre-service science teachers at a college of education in Seoul participated in this study. After a workshop on lessons using self-generated analogy, they planned and demonstrated lessons. All of the teaching-learning materials were collected, and their lessons were observed and videotaped. Semi-structured interviews were also conducted before and after their lessons. The characteristics of lessons using self-generated analogy were analyzed in the perspectives of PCK. The analyses of the results revealed that they used various strategies to promote students' generating analogies. They lacked understanding of the stages of the lessons and the role of teachers. Although all of them considered assessment, they used limited assessment methods and assessment dimensions. Some actively considered students' misconceptions, and specifically anticipated analogies that students could generate. They determined topics for lessons considering various aspects such as the level of self-generated analogy and the characteristics of scientific conceptions. On the bases of the results, we suggest some educational implications for pre-service science teacher education.

In this study, we examined students' science academic achievement through an analysis of the national assessment of educational achievement(NAEA) from 2015 to 2018 when the 2009 revised curriculum was applied. This study analyzed achievement average scores by gender and region and also analyzed the trend of the rate of achievement level in order to understand the characteristics of students' academic achievement. In addition, we analyzed the characteristics of the affective aspect using a survey of students' attitudes (confidence, interest, value, and willingness to learn) toward science. The main findings are as follows; First, the average science score shows a tendency to decrease year by year at the middle school level. Second, when analyzed by achievement level, the decline in the advanced group was large, and the rate of the below basic group increased. Third, comparisons of the average achievement scores by gender, female students' scores were generally high and the difference in achievement scores between male and female students tended to increase. Fourth, a characteristic gap was found between regional scales that increased in the advanced group. The results of a questionnaire on students' attitudes show that the four constructs of the students' attitudes had a significant correlation with the average achievement scores. In addition, the mean and positive response rates on the confidence, interest, and value of science in the above proficiency group increased but decreased in the below basic group. These results can be used as basic data for revising the curriculum, improving teaching and learning, and establishing educational policies.
The purpose of this study is to develop a STEAM education model on the basis of mathematics curriculum using real life context, and to analyze the effect of the class based on developed model to make applicable pedagogical discussion. For this purpose, STEAM class materials that can be used in terms of recognition, connection, extension, and application of mathematical concepts, principles and laws are considered, taking into consideration the ways in which real life contexts and mathematical learning could be harmonized. As a results of using these materials, it was empirically confirmed that students' cognitive thinking and affective aspects abilities were improved. The STEAM instruction centered on the mathematics curriculum and the mathematics class based on the data developed in this study have a unique identity compared to the conventional general mathematics teaching methods using the textbooks. And it is pursuing the future class model which could present desirable creativity and personality education. The result of this study would provide preliminary data and meaningful implications to the researchers for next curriculum and concomitant instructional materials as well as the mathematics teachers.
The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of tasks setting for mathematical modelling in the complex real situations. The tasks setting(MMa, MeA) in mathematical modelling was so important that we can't ignore its effects to develop meaning and integrate mathematical ideas. The experimental setting were two groups ($N_1=103$, $N_2=103$) at public high school and non-experimental setting was one group($N_3=103$). In mathematical achievement, we found meaningful improvement for MeA group on modelling tasks, but no meaningful effect on information processing tasks. The statistical method used was ACONOVA analysis. Beside their achievement, we were much concerned about their modelling approach that TSG21 had suggested in Category "Educational & cognitive Midelling". Subjects who involved in experimental works showed very interesting approach as Exploration, analysis in some situation ${\Rightarrow}$ Math. questions ${\Rightarrow}$ Setting models ${\Rightarrow}$ Problem solution ${\Rightarrow}$ Extension, generalization, but MeA group spent a lot of time on step: Exploration, analysis and MMa group on step, Setting models. Both groups integrated actively many heuristics that schoenfeld defined. Specially, Drawing and Modified Simple Strategy were the most powerful on approach step 1,2,3. It was very encouraging that those experimental setting was improved positively more than the non-experimental setting on mathematical belief and interest. In our school system, teaching math. modelling could be a answer about what kind of educational action or environment we should provide for them. That is, mathematical learning.
The objective of this study is to understand the effects of storybook making activity based on masterpiece appreciation on the language expression and picture appreciation ability of young children. Targeting 47 five year-old children of S & A kindergartens in Gwangju Metropolitan City, they were randomly assigned like 23 children for experimental group and 24 for comparative group. The experimental group performed the storybook making activity based on masterpiece appreciation for four sessions within 12 weeks while the comparative group expressed their feelings and thought into painting after appreciating masterpieces during the same period of time. Using SPSS 18.0 Program for the collected data, t-test was conducted for differences in the results of language expression and picture appreciation ability. The results of this study are as follows. First, the storybook making activity based on masterpiece appreciation had significant effects on the whole language expression except for sentence length, and it improved the language expression of young children. Second, the storybook making activity based on masterpiece appreciation had significant effects on the overall picture appreciation ability, and it improved the picture appreciation ability of young children. Such results imply that the whole process of appreciating masterpieces and making/appreciating storybook by expressing pre/post stories of painting into writing and drawing would be an effective teaching/learning method for the improvement of language expression and picture appreciation ability of young children.

A robot must be able to generate various skills to achieve given tasks intelligently and reasonably. The robot must first learn affordances to generate the skills. An affordance is defined as qualities of objects or environments that induce actions. Affordances can be usefully used to generate skills. Most tasks require sequential and goal-oriented behaviors. However, it is usually difficult to accomplish such tasks with affordances alone. To accomplish such tasks, a skill is constructed with an affordance and a soft behavioral motivation switch for reflecting goal-oriented elements. A skill calculates a behavioral motivation as a combination of both presently perceived information and goal-oriented elements. Here, a behavioral motivation is the internal condition that activates a goal-oriented behavior. In addition, a robot must be able to execute sequential behaviors. We construct skill networks by using generated skills that make action selection feasible to accomplish a task. A robot can select sequential and a goal-oriented behaviors using the skill network. For this, we will first propose a method for modeling and learning Bayesian networks that are used to generate affordances. To select sequential and goal-oriented behaviors, we construct skills using affordances and soft behavioral motivation switches. We also propose a method to generate the skill networks using the skills to execute given tasks. Finally, we will propose action-selection-mechanism to select sequential and goal-oriented behaviors using the skill network. To demonstrate the validity of our proposed methods, "Searching-for-a-target-object", "Approaching-a-target-object", "Sniffing-a-target-object", and "Kicking-a-target-object" affordances have been learned with GENIBO (pet robot) based on the human teaching method. Some experiments have also been performed with GENIBO using the skills and the skill networks.
For effective teaching-learning activities for students with diverse talents in science high schools, it is important for teachers to understand students' individual differences in perceiving and processing information in the natural world, depending on the students' various talents and subject characteristics. The purpose of this study is to examine the students' cognition of chemistry in science high school through correlations and factor analysis of mathematics/science achievement. In addition, this study attempted to examine the cognition of chemistry subject according to R&E classes. The main participants of the study were freshmen of G science high school (296 students) who entered after three times of curriculum reforms and new admission processes and the students in two other science high schools in Gyeongnam and Ulsan were included. The correlation and factor analysis were conducted by exploratory factor analysis by IBM SPSS Statistics 25 programs. The results of this study were as follows: First, in the correlation analysis between mathematics and science achievement, it was confirmed that the Pearson's coefficient of chemistry showed higher positive correlation coefficient than that of other science subjects. Second, in the factor analysis of mathematics and science achievements, it was found that the factor indicators were divided into two factors as logical-mathematical (mathematics and physics) and naturalistic (life science and earth science). Third, in the factor analysis, it was confirmed that the chemistry is recognized as the subject that requires both logical-mathematical and naturalistic intelligence. Finally, it was confirmed that students' cognitions of chemistry subject were found to differ according to the R&E classes. In other words, the participants of R&E chemistry class, unlike other students, were found to recognize chemistry as the subject that logical-mathematical intelligence is needed.

Previous researches on the improvement of logical thinking in Informatics subject have used general logical thinking test and only limited improvement of logical thinking by programming learning result. In this study, the operational definition of the logical thinking in problem-solving process on Informatics education is different from the general logical thinking and the logical thinking of the other subjects. Firstly, we suggested the operational definition of components of logical thinking using the open questionnaire by expert and research team discussion. Also, we suggested the relationship between the operational definition and contents of the 'problem-solving methods and procedure' section in secondary Informatics subject. Finally, this study developed the evaluation contents based on the operational definition of components of logical thinking. The components of logical thinking which was required in problem-solving process on Informatics subject were ordering reasoning, propositional logic, controlling variables, combinatorial logic, proportional reasoning. We suggested the relationship between operational definition and problem-solving process and assessment of logical thinking in problem-solving process on Informatics subject. This paper will give meaningful insight to supply the guideline of the teaching strategy and evaluation methods for improving the logical thinking in Informatics education.
