  • Energy-efficient task scheduling on multi-core server is a fundamental issue in green cloud computing. Multi-core processors are widely used in mobile devices, personal computers, and servers. Existing energy efficient task scheduling methods chiefly focus on reducing the energy consumption of the processor itself, and assume that the cores of the processor are controlled independently. However, the cores of some processors in the market are divided into several voltage islands, in each of which the cores must operate on the same status, and the cost of the server includes not only energy cost of the processor but also the energy of other components of the server and the cost of user waiting time. In this paper, we propose a cost-aware scheduling algorithm ICAS for computation intensive tasks on multi-core server. Tasks are first allocated to cores, and optimal frequency of each core is computed, and the frequency of each voltage island is finally determined. The experiments' results show the cost of ICAS is much lower than the existing method.

  • This study investigates Korean EFL learners' awareness and use of the English existential there-construction by examining data collected from 54 Korean EFL learners of English by means of a pragmalinguistic judgment task and a controlled discourse completion task. The results of the judgment task reveal that lower proficiency learners rated canonical sentences and existentials with a preposed locative best in the communicative situations where the use of existentials would have been most appropriate. A comparison of the ratings by more proficient learners and native speakers shows that existentials received highest ratings by both groups where they are the most natural option, while canonical sentences received significantly higher ratings by the learners. With regard to the production data, learners tended to avoid existentials, but rather relied on canonical sentences. Existentials were rarely used by lower proficiency learners and not used productively even by more proficient learners in the situations where existentials would have been the most natural option. These results suggest that Korean learners' difficulty with the use of existentials is not merely a product of performance limitations, but attributable to limited knowledge about existentials and their syntactic alternatives in terms of contextual appropriateness. Lower proficiency learners lack such knowledge, and more proficient learners, while showing better awareness of the use of existentials, have problems as to the placement of new information when engaging in writing tasks that place lower level of demands on attention to the information status of noun phrases compared to communicative, oral tasks.

  • The ATO(Automatic Train Operation) System is used for train operation instead of drivers. It is interfaced with TCMS(Train Control and Monitoring System) and ATC/TWC system in the train and wayside facilities. In this paper describes configuration of ATO, specification of ATO hardware, construction of ATO software and the algorithm fur automatic train speed regulation in the carborn ATO system. ATO Application Software is consist of ART, SPR, REG, SRV and PSM tasks. ART task is main control part of the ATO that determine ATO control, ATO mode, state transition. SPR determine speed reference according to train motion status, track data, train data and restricted train speed. REG task regulated train speed form the starting of one station to the precision stop at the other station under the result of ART and SPR tasks. In this paper, a algorithm for the train speed regulation while running is described.

  • Preliminary studies have claimed that short term fasting would negatively affect school performance and cognition. In contrast some other studies have reported not important decline in cognition and executive function as a result of fasting. Also limited attention was generally devoted to dietetic regimens, nutritional status and body weight. Yet neuroscience and neuro-cognitive aspects of acute hunger on the electroencephalogram and differences between obese and non-obese cases is not well understood. Hence, we decided to design and perform a case study in a more controlled situation similar to reality. Therefore, we performed several examinations including subjective tests (for eating status) and objective tests (cognitive tests such as Stroop effect and Sternberg search and electroencephalogram measures such as steady-state visual evoked potential and auditory steady-state responses) for an obese and a non-obese academic case before and after a simple breakfast. The results showed that the breakfast effects on the neuro-cognitive functions depend on either obesity status, nutritional status of the case or the type of cognitive task (visual or auditory). This paper would open a new insight to answer some important questions about the neuro-cognitive implications of fasting and feeding in obese and non-obese human cases.

  • Map/Reduce is the programing model which can implement the Cloud Computing recently has been noticed. The model operates an application program processing amount of data using a lot of computers. It is important to plan the mechanism of separating the data in proper size and distributing that to a cluster consisted of computing node in efficient for using the computing nodes very well. Besides that, planning a process of Map phases and Reduce phases also influences the performance of Map/Reduce. This paper suggests the effectively distributing scheme that separates a huge data and operates Map task in the considering the performance of computing node and network status. And we make the Reduce task can be processed quickly through the tuning the mechanism of Map and Reduce task operation. Using the two Map/Reduce sample application, we experimented the suggestion and we evaluate suggestion considered it in how impact the Map/Reduce performance.
