  • The purpose of this study is to examine the determinant factors of maintaining employment in young adults with intellectual disabilities who took part in a vocational training program and was employed. The determinant factors were from four areas, such as physical competence, job-related task performance, emotional behaviors, and functional adaptive behaviors. 64 young adults with intellectual disabilities participated in this study. The participants' capacities were examined during the program, and then their job retention was examined through a follow-up survey six month after the end of the program. Tests contained hand dexterity, grasp strength, finger strength, visual-perception, Survey of Functional Adaptive Behaviors, and Observational-Emotional Inventory-Revised. After data collection, the data were analyzed by binary logistic regression. The results indicated that dexterity in both hands (OR= 1.123) in physical competence, anxiety (OR= .733) and socialization (OR= .429) in emotional behaviors, and academic skills (OR= 1.077) and vocational skills (OR= 1.542) in functional adaptive behaviors were significant determinant factors. These significant factors which affected job attention were consistent with the results from previous studies, and should be considered when designing and constructing an effective career and vocational education program for young adults with intellectual disabilities.

  • Climate change is the issue that attracts the most attention in the field of environment, as well as the most challenging task faced by the human race. There are various ways to resolve this issue. South Korea has established the primary and secondary national climate change adaptation plans at the national level, and is making it compulsory for each local government (lower and municipal-level) to establish climate change adaptation plans. Climate change vulnerability assessment plays an essential role in establishing climate change adaptation action plans. However, vulnerability assessment has a difficulty performing individual assessments since the results are produced through complex calculations of multiple impact factors. Accordingly, this study developed a web-based supporting tool(VESTAP) for climate change vulnerability assesment that can be used by lower and municipal-level local governments. The VESTAP consists of impact DB and vulnerability assessment and display tool. The index DB includes total 455 impacts of future climate data simulated with RCP (Representative Concentration Pathways) 4.5 and 8.5, atmospheric environment data, other humanities and social statistics, and metadata. The display tool has maximized convenience by providing various analytical functions such as spatial distribution, bias and schematization of each vulnerability assessment result. A pilot test of health vulnerability assessment by particulate matters in Sejong Metropolitan Autonomous City was performed using the VESTAP, and Bukang-myeon showed the highest vulnerability. By using the developed tool, each local government is expected to be able to establish climate change adaptation action plans more easily and conveniently based on scientific evidence.

  • Necessity and purpose of this study: In a large number of countries it has been founded that children′s domestic accidents are at great risk year by year In the United States, they publish detailed accident statistics at regular intervals. In Korea. there have been just a few studies on Accidents-At-Home of preschool children. But it can not be said that there have been any systematic statistics about this area. and any study accounting for the relations of home accidents and preschool: children in detail, Therefore, the purpose of this thesis was focused on the inquire of these relations so as to make a little contribution to Korean preschool children′s health and security measures. So, the detail-purposes are to study following questions and to testify following hypothesis. Prob. 1. What the types of accidents of Preschool children, where the place accidents occurred\ulcorner Prob. 2. What the cause of accidents and, the main factors of the cause\ulcorner Prob. 3. How about the number of their children. the disparity of age among their children and mother′s age in each case of accidents\ulcorner hypothesis 1. There will be differences in the density of protection of parents according to the number of their children. hypothesis 2, There will be differences in accident-types and first-aid methods according to parents socio-economic background. Method; This study employed the interviewing survey method, in which 130 preschool children ware random.sampled, who visit hospital to have medical care. These children (from 1 to 6 years olds) were selected at the emergency room of five hospitals in Seoul (Hosp: Severance, Woosok, Medical Center, Hanyang Medical College Hospital and Seoul Medical Col1age Hospital during study-period (from Aug. to Oct, 1973). Four head nurses in above Hospitals were employed as accident members for this study. Concerning research analysis, the method of hypothesis verifying is used. Conclusion: As two American experts on this subject. Dr, Raymond Neuter and Mr. Ross Mc Garland have drawn attention to "minor epidemics of accidents" that could be avoided by fairly simple measures. preschool children′s accidents could be avoided by parents fair attentions. In other words, one of the most common causes of preschool children′s accidents derived from their parent′s inattention. Therefore, one important task on this subject is to instruct the parents fairly about the children′s accidents. Many accidents could be avoided by the exorcist of a little self-discipline. Also, as much the prevention of accidents is important, as the first-aid Is Important and necessary at the case of the accidents. So, the methods of proper first-aid treatment must be emphasized, and must be taught in school, especially in girls school. And there could be other means available for prevention of accidents. Firstly, the public authorities can take legal measures. More stringent safety standards can be made enforceable by law. Building materials and equipment for domestic us: ought to meat minimum safety criteria at all times. Next the public itself has to understand the seriousness of the problem, and here the dissemination of information is of great importance. All mass media should be brought into play to promote greater public awareness of the question. At last, it will be needed to obtain more detailed epidemiological data through additional surveys and statistics after this study.

  • In the West, the model for provision of services to the disabled has shifted from a focus on the individual to that of a social model. This shift reflects a movement away from a materialist approach to one that is grounded in idealism. In the context of themultiple service paradigm movement this paper explores trends in the provision of social services to the disabled in Korea. In order to accomplish this task the writer conducted an analysis of Korean Community Chest proposals, existing legislation and legislative systems as well as the disability movement in Korea. Data was collected from the 2003 program proposals submitted to the Korea Community Chest. This data was classified using Priestly's Multiple Service Paradigm of Disability. The results suggest that the Korean Community Chest favored an individual idealist approach. There was only limited support given to proposals that reflect the social model approach and thus issues of accessibility, independent living and inclusion are given short shrift. This paper argues the need for a reversal of this trend through the Korean Community Chest supporting issues mentioned above and that the social model should be given greater attention by this funding body. Implications for practice using the multiple paradigm model are discussed.

  • As an important basic building block of the smart grid environment, smart meter provides real-time electricity consumption information to the utility. However, ensuring information security and privacy in the smart meter data aggregation process is a non-trivial task. Even though the secure data aggregation for the smart meter has been a lot of attention from both academic and industry researchers in recent years, most of these studies are not secure against internal attackers or cannot provide data integrity. Besides, their computation costs are not satisfactory because the bilinear pairing operation or the hash-to-point operation is performed at the smart meter system. Recently, blockchains or distributed ledgers are an emerging technology that has drawn considerable interest from energy supply firms, startups, technology developers, financial institutions, national governments and the academic community. In particular, blockchains are identified as having the potential to bring significant benefits and innovation for the electricity consumption network. This study suggests a distributed, privacy-preserving, and simple secure smart meter data aggregation system, backed up by Blockchain technology. Smart meter data are aggregated and verified by a hierarchical Merkle tree, in which the consensus protocol is supported by the practical Byzantine fault tolerance algorithm.

  • There has been a claim that Interaction between the cerebral hemispheres could reduce the effect interfering information (Weissman & Banich, 1999). We ran three experiments to show that between-hemisphere separation of target and distractor could be more effective for reducing interference than Interaction between the hemispheres. In experiment 1, a colored box and a rotor name were presented to a single or to separate hemispheres. In experiment 2 and 3, a colored circle (distractor) was presented along with a colored box and a color name which was always printed in black. In experiment 3, a peripheral cue was presented either to the target location(66.7%) or to the distractor location(33.3%) Immediately before the presentation of stimuli. In all experiments, the participants were asked to deride whether the moaning of the color matched the rotor of the box, Ignoring the printed rotor of the word(Exp. 1), or the color of the circle(Exp. 2 & 3). There were three renditions of distractor (congruent, incongruent, and neutral) and two conditions of matching (between- and within-hemisphere matching). If interhemispheric interaction were effective for interference reduction, there should be a decrease in the interference in the between-hemisphere compared to the within-hemisphere matching condition. The results showed that there was no difference in the interference between the two matching conditions in Exp 1. In Exp 2 and in the target-cue renditions of Exp. 3, the amount of interference in the between-hemisphere condition was greater than that in the within-hemisphere condition. These findings are consistent with what we have previously reported (Sohn et al., 1996, Sohn & Lee, 2003). However, when the distractor was precued in Exp. 3, the amount of interference did not differ between the two marching conditions. These results suggest that between-hemisphere separation of target and distractor can be more effective for reducing response interference than interhemispheric communication. It implies a possible role of an interhemispheric shielding mechanism (Merola & Liederman, 1985) to prevent the transfer of task-irrelevant, harmful information across the hemispheres.

  • Modern solid-state gyroscopes (HRG) with hemispherical resonators from high-purity quartz glass and special surface superfinishing and ultrathin gold coating become the best instruments for precise-grade inertial reference units (IRU) targeting long-term space missions. Designing of these sensors could be a notable contribution into development of Korea as a space nation. In participial, 40mm diameter thin-shell resonator from high-purity fused quartz, fabricated as a single-piece with its supporting stem has been designed, machined, etched, tuned, tested, and delivered by STM Co. (ATS of Ukraine) several years ago; an extremely-high Q-factor (upto 10~20 millions) has been shown. Understanding of the best way how to match such a unique sensor with inner glass assembly of the gyro means how to use the high potential in a maximal extent; and this has become the urgent task. Inner quartz glass assembly has a very thin indium (In) layer soldered the resonator and its silica base (case), but effects of internal resonances between operational modal pair of the shell-cup and its side (parasitic) modes can notable degrade the potential of the sensor as a whole, instead of so low level of resonator's intrinsic losses. Unfortunately, there are special combinations of dimensions of the parts (so-called, "resonant sizes"), when intensive losses of energy occurs. The authors proposed to use the length of stem's fixture as an additional design parameter to avoid such cases. So-called, a cyclic scheme of finite element method (FEM) and ANSYS software were employed to estimate different combinations of gyro assembly parameters. This variant has no mismatches of numerical origin due to FEM's discrete mesh. The optimum length and dangerous "resonant lengths" have been found. The special attention has been paid to analyses of 3D effects in a cup-stem transient zone, including determination of a difference between the positions of geometrical Pole of the resonant hemisphere and of its "dynamical Pole", i.e., its real zone of oscillation node. Boundary effects between the shell (cup) and 3D short "beams" (inner and outer stems) have been ranged. The results of the numerical experiments have been compared with the classic model of a quasi-hemispherical shell band with inextensional midsurface, and the solution using Rayleigh's functions of the $1^{st}$ and $2^{nd}$ kinds. To guarantee the truth of the recommended sizes to a designer of the real device, the analytical and FEM results have been compared with experimental data for a party of real resonators. The consistency of the results obtained by different means has been shown with errors less than 5%. The results notably differ from the data published earlier by different researchers.

  • In the new web based learning environment which has recently emerged, a variety of new learning objectives and teaching methods suited to this learning environment have been adopted. Recently, web based project-based learning methods have received a great deal of attention from those wishing to improve learning performance. The objective of this study is to identify the impact of characteristics of communication media and instruction behavior on collaborative interaction and project performance through web based group projects. The characteristics of communication media were divided into richness, flexibility, and ease of use, and the characteristics of instruction behavior were divided into support and expression, which are independent variables. Collaborative interaction as a mediate variable, was divided into information sharing and negotiation. Project performance was the dependent variable. To verify the proposed research model empirically, an experiment was conducted in which learners participated in on-line and off-line courses with group projects. The group project was conducted virtual product development(VPD), and designed a web-site about the VPD. At the end of the project, a survey was conducted. Of the 270 students, 239 responded. The students were assigned to groups of 3 or 4 members, and represented different genders and levels of computer competence. The reliability, validity, and correlation of research variables were analyzed using SPSS 14.0, and the measurement model and the structural goodness-of-fit of the research model were verified through SEM analysis using Lisrel 8.54. We found important results as follows; First, richness and ease of use has positive impacts on each of sharing information and negotiation. This suggests that richness and ease of use are useful in sharing information which is related to the task and agreeing in opinions among group members. However, flexibility has not positive impacts on sharing information and negotiation. This implies that there is no great difference in performance of PC and information literacy of user. Second, support and expression of instructor have positive impacts on sharing information and negotiation. This indicates that instructors play an important role in encouraging learners to participate in the project and communicating with them, sharing information related to the project, making a resonable decision and finally leading them to improve a project performance. Third, collaborative interaction has a positive impact on project performance. This result shows that if the ability to share information and negotiate among students was improved then a project performance would be improved as well. Recently, in the state of revitalized web based learning, it is opportune that web-based group project is practically conducted, and the impact of characteristics of communication media and characteristics of instruction behavior on sharing information, negotiating among group members and improving a project performance is verified. On the basis of these results, we propose that forms of learning, such as web based project, could be one of solution which is to enforce interaction among learners, and ultimately improve learning performance. Moreover web-based group project is able to make up for a weakness which makes it difficult to make interpersonal relations or friendship among learners in computer mediated communication or web based learning.

  • Disposal of food garbage in most large cities is very troublesome task. To date, microbiological treatment has been received an attention as a garbage decomposition process. In this study, the inoculation effect of some cellulase, amylase and protease-producing bacteria and photosynthetic bacteria on food garbage treatment was examined. They were added into a treatment reactor specially designed in this study together with food garbage and incubated in various conditions for 15 days and the removals of food garbage and foul smell produced during the treatment were analyzed. Average decomposition percentages of the inoculated food garbage in treatment reactor were 11 and 18.8% under intermittent aeration (once in a day) and continuous aeration conditions (2 L/min), respectively, and these were higher than removal percentages in the corresponding uninoculated reactors,3.4 and 13.8%. Optimal pH and temperature for food garbage decomposition by inoculated bacteria were pH 7.0 and $30^{\circ}C$. Maximal decomposition percentage in the inoculated food garbage was 35% under the optimal condition (pH 7, $30^{\circ}C$, and continuous aeration). The malodor compounds generated from food garbage treatment such as complex foul smell and sulfur compounds were effectively reduced about 84% and 25.5%, respectively, with a biofilter composed of purple nonsulfur bacteria trapped in sponge. This decomposing capability of food garbage by these bacteria can be utilized for the rapid and efficient treatment of food garbage.

  • The main purpose of tramp ships in shipping markets is to produce operation profits by minimizing the running days in a contract of the voyage charterparty. It is an especially difficult task for the owners to earn operation profits in the present recessional shipping market. Tramp ships are moving towards globalization in order to look for a variety of cargoes, which are distinguished from the liners operating regularly as per the fixed time schedule. Tramp shipping, therefore, requires special attention every voyage to secure operation efficiency which comes from minimized sea and laytime in port. The laytime is allowed by owners but if the charterers use more laytime than that which is incorporated in the charterparty, then a compensation known as 'demurrage' must be paid to owners. Conversely if the time is shorter this is called 'despatch' and in this case the owners are paid. As the laytime issue in the voyage charter is somewhat delicate, it often causes much disputes between charterers and owners during the cargo handling in ports. This study focuses on the charterers' right and duty on the laytime which is usually applied for the benefit of the charterers. Reference is also made to English law cases to reinforce this study and the conclusion will make relevant suggestions for further research.
