  • In this paper, the measurements preprocessing algorithm for the fading of bearing and frequency measurements is proposed, which can improve the performance of BFTMA(Bearing and Frequency Target Motion Analysis). The fading and detection relation between bearing and frequency are rigorously established for measurements preprocessing, and BFTMA can be carried out the estimation of target motion by using measurements preprocessing. Batch estimation with bearing and frequency using the proposed algorithm can be applied to estimate the initial target states despite of the fading of frequency measurement. Simulation results show that BFTMA using the proposed measurements preprocessing has superior estimation performance, compared with batch estimation using only bearing measurements.

  • Target operational availability setting is the first step to setting up a goal which a weapon system development project have to achieve and doing RAM analysis during whole life of a weapon system. It is important as a key factor to doing RAM analysis in the early phase of weapon system development. This paper present a methodology to set a target operational availability for, especially, a warship when it develop. This methodology uses Operational Mode Summary/Mission Profile(OMS/MP) of the developing warship and RAM analysis results of similar warships to calculate wartime and peacetime target operational availability. It will be used in early phase of not only warship development but also army or aircraft weapon systems when these develop.

  • The Navy is in the process of developing a sonar-operation strategy to increase the effectiveness of underwater target searching capability. HMS is the basic strategy to detect underwater targets. The advantages of HMS is that, it has a short preparation time to operate and can be always used regardless of sea conditions and weather. However, it is difficult to effectively detect underwater targets due to the interaction between marine environments and sonar-operations. During the research, the effectiveness of the HMS system's underwater target searching capability was analyzed by integrating various search and defense patterns, and environment conditions into the simulation. In the simulation the ship search an evasive target within a set region. The simulation presented results for an effective searching and defense methods of underwater targets. These research results can be used as foundation for advancing and improving the sonar operational tactics.

  • This paper proposes a new approach to reduce the target estimation error of the measurement angle, especially applied to the medium and long range surveillance radar. If the target has no maneuver and no change in heading direction for a certain time interval, the predicted angle of interacting multiple model(IMM) from the previous track information can be used to reduce the angle estimation error. The proposed method is simulated in 2 scenarios, a scenario with a non-maneuvering target and a scenario with a maneuvering target. The result shows that the new fusion solution(weighted IMM) with the predicted azimuth and the measured azimuth is worked properly in the two scenarios.

  • Uranium metal particle dispersion plates have been proposed as targets for Molybdenum-99 (Mo-99) production to improve the radioisotope production efficiency of conventional low enriched uranium targets. In this study, uranium powder was produced by centrifugal atomization, and miniature target plates containing uranium particles in an aluminum matrix with uranium densities up to 9 $g-U/cm^3$ were fabricated. Additional heat treatment was applied to convert the uranium particles into UAlx compounds by a chemical reaction of the uranium particles and aluminum matrix. Thus, these target plates can be treated with the same alkaline dissolution process that is used for conventional $UAl_x$ dispersion targets, while increasing the uranium density in the target plates.

  • If we don't know the intention of altering course of a target ship when being in a head-on or a crossing situation, we may be confused about our decision making to change our course for collision avoidance and be in a danger of collision. In order to solve these problems, we need to develop an automatic detection system on altering course of a target ship for efficient collision avoidance. In this paper, we proposed an early detection system on altering course of a target ship using the steering wheel signal. This system will contribute to the reduction of collision accidents and also be used to the VTS system and the analysis of marine accidents.

  • In this paper, a strip modeling method is developed for the acquisition of target positions in remote area and validated using the imagery of SPOT satellite. This method utilizes the parameters given in header files and constructs a camera model without ground control points. In most cases, the root mean squared error of check points is less than pixel size with one ground control point. The model error of reference image is evaluated using ground control points and used to remove the model error of target images acquired along the same satellite orbit, which enables one to calculate target positions in remote area where no ground control points are available.

  • An echo signal in the active sonar using a high frequency is mainly formed of a specular reflection from the surface of an object along with several equivalent scatter inside, which are characterized by the spatial distribution of the highlights on the object. This thesis proposed a model in which the synthesized echo signal can be expressed as a distributed simulated target. The proposed model is obtained after composing a signal based on the movement of highlights relative to the aspect angle from the discontinuous point of an external hull with a strong reflection from a spheroid underwater target. Because the proposed algorithm includes a synthesis of the signals related to the highlight spacial distribution, it can be applied to all kinds of systems used at a short range, and similar results were obtained to the actual measured results of all reflected signals in previous literature referring to the irregular factor application of an envelope.

  • Usually, a tracking-gate of the tracker is used to track the target radar signal in the active ECM system. In this paper, we propose the feed-back tracking-gate filtering method. The designed method applies a tracking-gate of the tacker to the ECM system's receiver as a rejection or pass filter selected by the receiver's purpose, and the specific target signals can be passed or rejected though this tracking-gate filter. Thus, the number of input signals within the receiver's search band is minimized owing to this filter except the target signals. In conclusion, the EW equipment's reaction time can be reduced and the error value about the target signals can be lower than the previous methods'.

  • In this paper, a dynamical filter called the Highest Probability Data Association Filter(HPDAF) improved by adding target feature information is proposed for robust target detection and tracking in clutter. IIR contains 2-dimensional kinematic coordinate, intensity, and feature information. In data association of the HPDAF for track initiation, feature information is utilized in addition to coordinate and intensity information. The performance of the proposed HPDA algorithm is tested and compared with the conventional HPDAF algorithm for track initiation by a series of Monte Carlo simulation runs for a 3-dimensional missile-target engagement. scenario.
