  • This research is basic research about 「the afforestation project of the Shilla Dynasty's capital forest」 which is controlled by the research institute of forest and environment of Kyungbuk province. The results of the investigation about target places and selection of major species of trees is as follows. 1. In the Shilla Dynasty's times, the peach tree was the indicator of unusual changes in weather, and was also the symbol of unsurpassed beauty. Peach trees were so prevalent that people called the forest peach-hill or peach-forest. Therefore, the main tree of Shilla Dynasty's capital forest would have to be a peach tree. 2. From several records, pine and bamboo were planted or grown together. The pattern of planting trees like this case is also historic, so should be utilized positively. 3. In order to afforest the capital forest, the bamboos have to be planted on Nam-mountain in Kyung-ju, and maple trees have to be planted on Kumgang mountain. 4. There were many big trees during the Shilla Dynasty, and the name of one of the Six Main Villages was 'Big Tree Village'. Therefore, big and long-lived trees have to be planted also. 5. The willow tree has to be considered for afforesting the capital forest even though the willow trees are misunderstood to cause allergies. They are traditional landscape architecture trees. In the traditional literature, the willow tree stands for good news. 6. Japanese cornellian cherry(Cornus officinalis), which is related with old narrative literature in the era of King Kyungmun, has to be planted for the forest, and has to be considered to be an educational tree. 7. Korean Rhododendron, which is related with Madam Suro's story, has to be planted in stone gardens.8. Lotus, Korean pulsatilla, Boxwood, Bombycis Mulberry, and Japanese Apricot have been recorded just one time, but these are also important plants which have to be reflected on afforestation of capital forest project. 9. The forests of Shilla on the old records exist in 17 places. The afforestation project has to be undertaken at these places. 10. The people of Shilla deified the forest and trees, which were the places where ancestral rites had been performed. For example, Gyerim, Sinyurim, and Wanggasu were the sacred forests of the capital forest.

  • Acoustic emission (AE) sensors have broadly used to monitor the damage of underground structures and tunnels. The reliability of measured signal is determined by the coupling condition of the AE sensors which are embedded in the target underground structure. To secure the reliability of health monitoring results, it is important to understand the characteristics of the coupling materials. In this study, laboratory tests were performed using portland cement, micro cement, and gypsum as coupling materials in order to verify the bleeding characteristics. The effective parameters for bleeding were determined to be water-cement ratio, material type, curing time, and injected volume of coupling materials. As a results of the experimental study, the bleeding rate increases with an increase in a water-cement ratio and an injected volume; for portland cement, water-cement ratio and injected volume effects are larger than the micro cement. However, curing time is not much effective for occurrence of the bleeding phenomenon. It is anticipated that this study may be useful for the selection of suitable coupling materials for installation of acoustic emission sensors.

  • Objective: Average daily gain (ADG) is an important target trait of pig breeding programs. We aimed to identify single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and genomic regions that are associated with ADG in the Duroc pig population. Methods: We performed a genome-wide association study involving 390 Duroc boars and by using the PorcineSNP60K Beadchip and two linear models. Results: After quality control, we detected 3,5971 SNPs, which included seven SNPs that are significantly associated with the ADG of pigs. We identified six quantitative trait loci (QTL) regions for ADG. These QTLs included four previously reported QTLs on Sus scrofa chromosome (SSC) 1, SSC5, SSC9, and SSC13, as well as two novel QTLs on SSC6 and SSC16. In addition, we selected six candidate genes (general transcription factor 3C polypeptide 5, high mobility group AT-hook 2, nicotinamide phosphoribosyltransferase, oligodendrocyte transcription factor 1, pleckstrin homology and RhoGEF domain containing G4B, and ENSSSCG00000031548) associated with ADG on the basis of their physiological roles and positional information. These candidate genes are involved in skeletal muscle cell differentiation, diet-induced obesity, and nervous system development. Conclusion: This study contributes to the identification of the casual mutation that underlies QTLs associated with ADG and to future pig breeding programs based on marker-assisted selection. Further studies are needed to elucidate the role of the identified candidate genes in the physiological processes involved in ADG regulation.

  • This study is related to determination of the intention to watch a movie, which is affected by various emotional, environmental, and behavioral factors. In case of personal factors, personal taste formed on the basis of previously experienced movie related information affects selection of movies, while environmental factors are affected mostly by residental community experience, cognitive attitude, subjective norms, as well as the view of values. In this study, the determinants on decision to watch movie have been analyzed applying the theory of planned behavior. Taking into consideration that the determination, based on either personal factors or environmental factors, of consuming movie products stars from reasonable information collecting and that movie poster has been the primary source of information on movie products since the inception of the movie industry, this study analyzed tastes of movie watchers and many variables of movie poster format on determination of intention to watch movie. The results from this empirical study indicate that movie poster is effective means of low cost marketing inducing movie watching in terms of consuming minimum time and space with high speed of delivery while satisfying primary interest on the movie product. It is suggested movie posters should be prepared to make appeal to each generation of target consumers and be put on the market as a product of artistic work.

  • The turbine is an important component and has a significant impact on the thermodynamic efficiency of the organic Rankine cycle. A precise preliminary design is essential to developing efficient turbines. In addition, performance analysis and structural analysis are needed to evaluate the performance and structural safety. However, there are only a few exclusive studies on the development process of the radial inflow turbines for the organic Rankine cycle (ORC). In this study, a preliminary design of the ORC radial inflow turbine was performed. Subsequently, the performance and structural analysis were also carried out. The RTDM, which was developed as an in-house code, was used in the preliminary design process. The results of the performance analysis were found to be in good agreement with target performances. Structural analysis of the designed turbine was also carried out in order to determine whether the material selection for this study is suitable for the flow conditions of the designed turbine, and it was found that the selected aluminum alloy is suitable for the designed turbine. However, the reliability of the preliminary design algorithms and numerical methods should be strictly verified by an actual experimental test.

  • In order to establish a rainfall-runoff model, calibration of hydrological parameters for the model is very important. Especially, Curve Number(CN), estimated by NRCS method, is a main factor to apply unit hydrograph theory to calculation of peak discharge. For using NRCS method, it is needed selecting AMC because CN is strongly connected with that. In this study, we focus our concern on finding a applicable standard for selecting AMC for CN. For this, three dams which are Boryeong, Habchon, Namgang are selected as target basins to use observed data including rainfall and dam inflow. As a result of this research, it is found that CN must be included as a calibrated parameter to calculate effective rainfall for the rainfall-runoff model. Also, it is preferred to use PWRMSE of HEC-HMS program as a objective function for optimizing hydrological parameters. From the analyzing result of variation of AMC for peak discharge, it is recommended to apply AMC-III to estimation of CN for calculating effective rainfall of design hydrograph.

  • The success of radioation therapy depends on exact treatment of the tumor with significant high dose for maximizing local control and excluding the normal tissues for minimizing unwanted complications. To achieve these goals, correct estimation of target volume in three dimension, exact dose distribution in tumor and normal critical structures and correction of tissue inhomogeneity are required. The effect of therapy oriented CT (plannng CT) were compared with conventional simulation method in necessity of planning change, set dose, and proper distribution of tumor dose. Of 365 new patients examined, planning CT was performed in 104 patients $(28\%)$. Treatment planning was changed in $47\%$ of head and neck tumor, $79\%$ of intrathoracic tumor and $63\%$ of abdmonial tumor. in breast cancer and musculoskeletal tumors, planning CT was recommended for selection of adequate energy and calculation of exact dose to critical structures such as kidney or spinal cord. The average difference of tumor doses between CT planning and conventional simulation was $10\%$ in intrathoracic and intra-abdominal tumors but $20\%$ in head and neck tumors which suggested that tumor dose may be overestimated in conventional simulation Although some limitations and disadvantages including the cost and irradiation during CT are still criticizing, our study showed that CT Planning is very helpful in radiotherapy Planning.

  • This study is aimed to emphasize the significance of ore selection in lime manufacturing through the evaluation of applied-mineralogical impact factors of crude ores controlling calcination characteristics for some domestic limestones used currently for lime manufacturing. To do this work, systematic characterization and determination were carried out for the limestone ores and their calcination products in a fixed calcining condition (target temperature: $1000^{\circ}C$, retention time: 30 minutes, 2, 4, 10, 16 hours), and the results were correlated and discussed. Selected high-Ca limestones in this study are as much as > 98 wt%, but they are somewhat diverse in crystallinity, texture, and impurity composition. Synthesized quicklimes are varied depending on such a difference in ore characters. The Pungchon limestone has relatively very low calcination rate, and the limestones from the Gabsan formation and the Jeongseon formation exhibit good quality in calcination rate and decrepitation. Among these samples, the limestone ore from the Jeongseon formation is evaluated to be the best for crude ore in manufacturing of highly-reactive quicklime. In addition, it is characteristic that the Gabsan limestone comparative rich in Fe-bearing mineral such as pyrite and goethite is more conspicuous in sintering effect.

  • Recently, Global network expansion strategy of GTOs(Global Terminal Operator) coupled with each country's port policy, plays huge role for the evolution of modern container port. The Chinese ports can be regarded as the major markets to the GTOs. However, there are scant of researches for finding the key success factors of GTOs' strategies when they consider to invest in overseas. In this respect, the aims of this study were to draw out the evaluation variables for successful investment strategies of GTOs, and to calculate the selected target ports. The 14 variables are selected including the variable named 'development potentiality of a port' through literature reviews. Using the Factor Analysis (FA) based on selected variables, four principal factors were extracted such as 'ability for port operating and cargo generating', 'the trade route and volume', 'the calling potentiality for large vessels' and 'the possibility of utilization of existing infrastructure'. In addition, the weights of factors and variables are evaluated through Fuzzy AHP method. As a result, 'ability for port operating and cargo generating' is chosen as the most important factor among principal factors as scored 0.343, and 'the development potentiality of a port' (0.107) is represented as the most important variable among 14 detailed variables. In overall, from the Global Terminal Operator's point of view, Shanghai is ranked as most suitable port for operating new terminal among the top 5 Chinese ports.

  • Protection is to maximize the protectee's physical security by minimizing the threats and minimizing the damages caused by the threats. From this point of view, the assassination case of Israel's former Premier Yitzhak Rabin who devoted himself to proceed peace process in Middle East, on November 4, 1995, gives us a lot of lessons on protection. At that time, Israeli society was chaotic with anti-Rabin and anti-government demonstrations which is against Rabin's peace process, and they openly threatened to assassinate Premier Rabin. However, Shin Bet, Israeli Protective Agency, didn't reacted against the assassination threats effectively. Also they have to try to secure friendly public to widen the width of selection in case of crisis and to secure the credibility of the organization. They have to prevent harmful activities in advance by securing wide intelligence networks to collect and analyze various protective intelligences and preparing proper protective countermeasures. Intelligence is a basic element in protection and any protective measures not supported by intelligence activities are not useful and effective. Potential attackers study their target thoroughly and make an elaborate plan before their attack. Advance team is required to conduct security measures on a basis of analysis of vulnerability and threat factors, and close protection team should be prepared for the changing situations with crisis-consciousness. Is security, 100% perfection is not possible. However, Shin Bet failed to analyze and approach to the existing threats. They forgot the fact that security environment reflects social situations. Protection agents should be conscious of the fact that today is different from yesterday. So we have to expect what is not expected when not expected.
