  • Genetic transformation in dandelion(Taraxacum mongolicum Hand). was studied. We used for transformation by Agrobacterium tumefaciens strian LBA4404 harboring a binary vector pBI121 carrying the CaMV 35S promoter-GUS gene fusion used as a reporter gene and NOS promoter-NPTII gene as a positive selection marker. To obtain transformed plants, leaf explants of dandelion were cocultured with Agrobacterium tumefaciens LBA4404 for 10 mins, then transferred to MS medium containing 1 $\mu$M IAA, 1$\mu$M BA, 100$\mu$g/ML carbenicillin and 50 $\mu$g/ML kanarmycin sulfate. After two weeks of subculture of the explants, Kanamycin-resistant shoots were formed on explants survived. When subjected to GUS histochemical assay, all of the regenerants showed the GUS-positive responses. Plantlets were be be transformed to soil for further growth.

  • Yenhwagamchotang has been widely used in treatment of inflammatory disease which is based on Oriental Medical literatures. These studies were attempted experimental effects of Yenhwagamchotang(sample A), Yenhwagamchotang plus Forsythia koreana NAKAI.(sample B), and Yenhwa-gamchotang plus Taraxacum mongolicum HAND- MAZZ(sample C),on the Anti-allergic reaction, the antipyretic action, the anti-inflammatory and the analgesic action,in rats. THe results of the studies were as follow: 1. Vascular permeability responses to intradermal serotonin in rats were showed significant effect at all sample groups. 2. The homologous passive cutaneous anaphylaxis in rats provoked by the IgE-like antibody aganist egg white albumin showed the decreasing effect. 3. The delayed type hypersensitivity responses to picryl chloride in mice were showed significant effect at all sample groups. 4. The delayed type hypersensitivity response to sheep red blood cell in mice were showed significant effect at all sample groups. 5. In anti-pyretic effect by yeast method were showed significant effect at all sample groups. 6. The anti-inflammatory effect by carrageenin method were showed significant effect at all sample groups. 7. The analgesic action by acetic acid method in mice were showed significant effect at all sample groups. According to the above result, Yenhwagamchotang(sample A), Yenhwagamchotang plus Forsythia koreana NAKAI(sample B), AND yenhwagamchotang plus Taraxacum mongolicum HNAN- MAZZ.(sample C ) were concluded to have the anti-allergic reaction, the antipyretic action, the anti-inflammatory, the analgesic action.

  • The black pine bast scale, Matsucoccus thunbergianae is one of the most serious insect pest in Japanese black pine, Pinus thunbergii forest in Korea. Insecticidal activity of 10 folds hot water extracts from 7 herbal plants (Atractylodes lancea, Eugenia caryophyllata, Lonicera japonica, Melia azedarach, Quisqualis indica, Sophora flavescens and Taraxacum mongolicum) were tested against different stage of M. thunbergianae using spray method both in laboratory and field. Efficacies of herbal extracts were different depending on stage of M. thunbergianae. Q. indica sprayed with hand sprayer produced the highest corrected mortality of 95.7% on intermidiated nymph stage, however, A. lancea produced the highest corrected mortality (51.3%) on pupae of M. thunbergianae in laboratory. Q. indica and A. lancea were highly effective against female M. thunbergianae in laboratory, however, corrected mortality was lower than other stage (40.0%). Efficacy of Q. indica was similar to effective insecticide, fenitrothion 50% EC against M. thunbergianae in field trials. These results indicated that Q. indica could be an environmental friendly control agent of M. thunbergianae.

  • Objectives: The objective of this study was to teach patients clinically useful external application of acne. Methods: We investigated the effects and manufacturing methods of the medical herbs published in the woman's monthly magazines according to "Zhong-Yao-Da-Ci-Dian(中藥大辭典)". Results: We investigated that Saururus chinensis Baill.(三白草), Houttuynia cordata Thunb.(魚腥草), Coix lachrymajobi L.(薏苡仁) were discovered 3 times, Brassica oleracea L.(甘藍), Raphanus sativus L.(래복), Daucus carota L. var. Sativa DC.(홍래복), Oryza sativa L.(米皮糠), Spinacia oleracea L.(파래), Cucumis sativus L.(黃爪) 2 times, and Glycyrrhiza uralensis Fisch.(甘草), Gallus gallus domesticus Braisson.(?子白), Aloe vera L.(노회), Phascolus radiatus L.(綠豆), Prunus persica Batsch.(桃葉), Lycopersicon esculentum Mill.(番茄), Taraxacum mongolicum Hand.-Mazz.(蒲公英), Prunus armeniaca L.(杏仁), Musa paradisiaca L. var. Sapientum O. ktze.(香蕉) and Malus pumila Mill.(평과) were discovered once in woman's monthly magazine during last two years. According to the effects, we classificated four groups which were defervescence(淸熱), subsidence of edema(消腫), pyorrhea(排膿) and gloss(滋潤) group. Conclusion & discussion : We suggested the use of each medical herbs on the Consensus conference on acne classification. We needed the further study on the manufacturing method, the time of use and the dose
