A Study on the Estimating Locations of Faults on Distribution Power Systems (배전계통 고장위치 검출방법에 관한 연구)

  • The Conventional approach for estimating the locations of transmission line shunt faults has been to measure the apparent impedance to the fault from a line terminal and to convert the reactive component of the impedance to line length. But, these methods do not adequately address the problems associated with the fault location on distribution systems. This thesis presents a technique that estimates the location of shunt fault on a radial distribution system that has several single and multiphase laterals. Tapped loads and non-homogenity of the distribution system are take into account. The developed technique, which can handle shunt faults was tested to evaluate its suitability. Results from computer simulation of faults on a model of a 25KV distribution lines like real system are presented. The results approved that the proposed technique works well for estimating the locations of the distribution line shunt faults.

  • This letter presents a shorted-stub tapped branch-line coupler for dual-band applications. In the new design, a shorted stub is used to realize 90 phase change at two frequencies. Closed-form design equations are derived to find the characteristic impedance and electrical length of the proposed branch lines using the ABCD-matrix. To verify the design concept, a microstrip coupler operating at 0.8 and 1.85 GHz is fabricated and measured.

  • In this paper, power line harmonic noise which is the most serious problem in the secondary power distribution line is eliminated and analyzed using adaptive noise cancellers with two adaptive algorithms, LMS and individual tap LMS(ITLMS) algorithm. To testify the improvement of data transmission characteristics made by the adaptive filter with two adaptive algorithms, BER was measured in DS spread spectrum communication system including the noise canceller.

  • The external quality factor ($Q_e$) is controlled by coupling condition between resonator and input/output ports in design of microwave filter. In this paper, we represent extracting method of external quality factor using phase response for resonator with input/output ports according to position of feed line from microstrip line resonator. The results regarding to position, coupling gap and line width for tapped line and coupled line structure are represented, and we got the exact $Q_e$ value from the this method. This results will be applied to coupled resonator filter design.

  • In this paper, we quantiatively analyze the broadband CDMA systems with high chip rate, which virually eliminates the multipath fading effects by distinguishing each reflected paths in the process of despreading. We model the broadband multipath propagation channel with random time-variant impulse response as a linear filter of tapped delay line to evaluate the performance of broadband CDMA systems in multipath fading environment. This statistical model, based on extensive experimental data, was established to characterize the urban radio propagation medium in various environments. We perform computer simulation of the transmission and reception of broadband CDMA systems by applying it to abve channel model. From the simulation results, we confirm that the broadband CDMA systems inherenly reduce the effects of multipath fading phenomena which causes to degrade the performance of mobile communication systems, based on the results of eye-diagram and BER curve.

Neural Network Modeling of Memory Effects in RF Power Amplifier Using Two-tone Input Signals (Two-Tone 입력을 이용한 RF 전력증폭기 메모리 특성의 신경망 모델링)

  • In this paper, we used neural network technique to model memory effects of RF power amplifier which is fed by two-tone input signals. The memory effects in power amplifier were identified by observing the unsymmetrical distribution of IMD(Inter-Modulation Distortion) measurements with the change of tone spacings and power levels. Different asymmetries of IMD were also found at different center frequencies. We applied TDNN technique to model LDMOS power amplifier based on two tone IMD data, and the accuracy was very high compared to other modeling methods such as the(memoryless) adaptive modeling method.

  • In this paper, E-TDLNN(Expanded-Tapped Delay Line Neural Network) method is suggested to make the model of power amplifier effectively. This method is the one for making the model of power amplifier through the study in neural network to the target value, the measured output spectrum of power amplifier, after adding the external value factor, gate bias, as an invariant input to the TDLNN method which suggested the memory effect of power amplifier effectively. To prove the validity of suggested method, the data at 2 points, 3.45 V and 3.50 V of gate bias range $3.4{\sim}3.6V$ with the 0.01 V step change, are studied and the predicted results at the gate bias 3.40 V, 3.48 V, 3.53 V and 3.60 V shows good coincidence with the measured values.

  • Neural networks, having highly nonlinear dynamics by virtue of the distributed nonlinearities and the learing ability, have the potential for the adaptive prediction of nonstationary signals. This paper describes the nonlinear prediction of these signals in two ways; using a nonlinear module and the cascade combination of nonlinear and linear modules. Fully-connected recurrent neural networks (RNNs) and a conventional tapped-delay-line (TDL) filter are used as the nonlinear and linear modules respectively. The dynamic behavior of the proposed predictors is demonstrated for chaotic time series adn speech signals. For the relative comparison of prediction performance, the proposed predictors are compared with a conventional ARMA linear prediction model. Experimental results show that the neural networks based adaptive predictor ourperforms the traditional linear scheme significantly. We also find that the cascade combination predictor is well suitable for the prediction of the time series which contain large variations of signal amplitude.

Design of a new compact microstrip line duplexer using stepped impedance resonator (계단형 임피던스 공진기를 이용한 새로운 구조의 소형화된 마이크로스트립 듀플렉서 설계)

  • In this letter, a novel compact duplexer which consists of Tx and Rx Filter using microstrip line ${\lambda}/4$ resonators with a pair of tap-connected open-ended stepped impedance stubs is designed. The tapped open stubs not only work as K-inverters but also introduce attenuation poles, attenuation poles are located at upper and lower side of the passband by adjusting the open stub length and width. The result of measurement duplexer has been yielded better isolation and sharper skirt behavior than that with a conventional bandpass filter and similar to those of simulation results.

Tunable Photonic Microwave Delay Line Filter Based on Fabry-Perot Laser Diode

  • We report the physical implementation of a tunable photonic microwave delay line filter based on injection locking of a single Fabry-Perot laser diode (FP-LD) to a reflective semiconductor optical amplifier (RSOA). The laser generates equally spaced multiple wavelengths and a single tapped-delay line can be obtained with a dispersive single mode fiber. The filter frequency response depends on the wavelength spacing and can be tuned by the temperature of the FP-LD varying lasing wavelength. For amplitude control of the wavelengths, we use gain saturation of the RSOA and the offset between the peak wavelengths of the FP-LD and the RSOA to decrease the amplitude difference in the wavelengths. From the temperature change of total $15^{\circ}C$, the filter, consisting of four flat wavelengths and two wavelengths with slightly lower amplitudes on both sides, has shown tunability of about 390 MHz.
