해수와 담수에서 OPC-GGBFS 시멘트의 자기치유와 재령효과 (The Self-healing and Ageing Effect of OPC-GGBFS Cement in Sea-water and Tap-water)

  • 본 연구는 OPC-GGBFS 페이스트 시험체에 균열을 발생시키지 않은 시험체와 균열을 발생시킨 시험체의 자기치유 효과에 대한 실험결과이다. 균열이 발생된 시험체의 자기치유는 균열면의 미수화 입자들의 재수화로 인한 균열면 닫힘 현상이다. OPC 페이스트에 GGBFS를 0%, 10%, 20% 그리고 30% 치환하고 물-결합재 비는 0.5로 일정하게 하였다. OPC-GGBFS 시험체를 담수(tap-water)와 해수(sea-water)에 침지하였다. 담수와 해수의 온도는 $5^{\circ}C$, $15^{\circ}C$ 그리고 $25^{\circ}C$이다. 균열을 발생시킨 시험체는 균열발생 후 60까지 침지하였다. 실험결과를 바탕으로 자기치유 효과(self-effect)와 재령효과(age-effect) 사이의 관계를 계산하였다. 자기치유 효과는 균열발생 전후의 초음파속도(UPV) 측정을 통해 이루어졌다. GGBFS 치환율이 증가하면 UPV 증가율이 증가하였다. 더구나, 침지한 담수의 온도가 증가할수록 자기치유 효과도 향상되었다. 그러나 해수에 침지한 시험체는 온도와의 관계가 명확하지 않았다. 담수와 해수에 침지한 OPC-GGBFS 시험체의 가장 높은 자기치유 효과는 침지 30일 동안 발생하였다. 침지 30일까지는 자기치유효과가 높았다. 30일 이후에는 자기치유 효과와 재령 효과가 모두 크게 감소하였다. SEM/EDS 분석을 통해 담수에 침지한 시험체의 균열에는 aragonite가, 해수에 침지한 시험체의 균열부에는 brucite가 생성된 것을 확인하였다.

Alcohol-induced hepatic fibrosis in pig

  • A number of toxicants have been incriminated as a causing hepatic disease. Among many detrimental injury, alcohol has been noted for hepatitis, fatty liver, fibrosis, and hepatic cirrhosis. The purpose of this study was to develop animal model for hepatic fibrosis in pigs fed ethanol, and to search for a new anti-fibrogenic agent via this model. Twelve male Landrace pigs were divided into 3 groups of 4 animals each. Group 1, 2 and 3 were fed with active ceramic water only, ceramic water + liquid diet containing 15% ethanol and normal tap water + liquid diet containing 15% ethanol for 12 weeks, respectively. At week 12, all pigs were immediately sacrificed for collection each tissue and blood. Serologically, serum ALT and AST levels were significantly reversed in group 2, as compared to group 3. They were normal range in pigs of group 1. Microscopically, macrovesicular lipid droplets and moderate hepatocellular necrosis were evident in the tap water + ethanol fed group 3. However, the active ceramic water treated group 1 showed normal architecture. Moreover, in group 2, mild fatty changes and necrosis were observed in hepatocytes. Collagen fibers were increased in spaces surrounding periportal and interlobular connective tissues in the group 3 of tap water + ethanol, but collagen synthesis and its thickness of fibrotic septa connecting portal tracts were markedly reduced in the group 2 of ceramic water + ethanol. Myofibroblasts were detected mainly in the interlobular connective tissues of pig liver of group 3 treated ethanol and tap water. Few to no myofibroblasts were observed in groups 1 and 2. CYP2E1 was not or rarely detected in group 1 fed ceramic water. However, group 2 showed slightly activation of CYP2E1 in the area of pericentral vein, while CYP2E1 was significantly activated in group 3 fed tap water and ethanol. Based on the above data, we believe that we have developed a unique alcohol induced fibrosis model in pig, which will be useful in developing anti-fibrotic agents and drugs. Furthermore, the active ceramic water used in our study had an inhibitory and may be protective against ethanol induced hepatic toxicity and fibrosis.

고출력 마이크로파 수냉식 RF Load 설계 (High-Power Water-Cooled RF Load)

  • 본 논문은 고출력 RF load 중 간단한 구조를 갖는 UHF 대역의 수냉식 RF load를 설계하였다. RF 정합에 영향을 주는 물성을 얻기 위한 수식을 정립 후, load에 채어줄 수돗물의 유전율과 $tan{\delta}$(Loss tangent)을 측정하였다. 또한, 높은 출력의 전자파가 인가될 경우, 수돗물의 온도가 올라가기 때문에 온도의 변화에 따른 유전율과 $tan{\delta}$의 변화도 측정하였다. Water-load의 길이를 줄이기 위해 molybdate를 수돗물과 혼합시켜 주어 농도에 따른 물성 변화도 측정하였다. 측정 결과, 일반 냉각수에 비해서 혼합물의 경우 $tan{\delta}$ 값이 약 26배 증가함을 확인하였다. 이를 바탕으로 수냉식 RF load를 제작하였고, 주파수 460 MHz에서 반사계수 -19 dB, 대역폭 15 %의 우수한 결과를 얻었다.

Application of membrane distillation process for tap water purification

  • Membrane distillation process was used for purification of pre-treated natural water (tap water). The rejection of inorganic and organic compounds in this process was investigated. The obtained rejection of inorganic solutes was closed to 100%, but the volatile organic compounds (VOCs) diffused through the membrane together with water vapour. The content of trihalomethanes (THMs) in the obtained distillate was two-three fold higher than that in the feed, therefore, the rejection of the total organic compounds present in the tap water was reduced to a level of 98%. The intensive membranes scaling was observed during the water separation. The morphology and composition of the fouling layer was studied using scanning electron microscopy coupled with energy dispersion spectrometry. The influence of thermal water pre-treatment performed in a heat exchanger followed by filtration on the MD process effectiveness was evaluated. This procedure caused that significantly smaller amounts of $CaCO_3$ crystallites were deposited on the membrane surface, and a high permeate flux was maintained over a period of 160 h.

  • Ultraviolet light(UV-C, wavelength: 200~280nm) is employed profitably for sterilizing drinking water. For most water serving apparatus such as a water purifier, a water cooler and heater, a coffee vending machine and etc., pre-sterilized water may be contaminated secondarily with bacillary inhabitation in a container before serving. In consideration of this problem, a household water tap which is equipped with a sterilization/Purification device in combination with non-contact UV-lamp, was designed to sterilize and purify water at the last outlet just before serving. Hopefully this simple but creative item may be commercialized for household and public use.

Alcohol Induced Hepatic Fibrosis in Pig

  • Hepatic disease has been noted and reported for involvement various detrimental factors. Among many detrimental injury factors, alcohol has been noted for hepatitis, fatty liver, fibrosis, and hepatic cirrhosis. The purpose of this study is to develop animal model for hepatic fibrosis in pig with ethanol, and to search new anti-fibrogenic agent. However, ceramic water intake group 1 showed normal. Moreover, in group 3, little fatty changes and mild necrosis were observed. Collagen fibers were detected in the spaces of surrounding periportal and interlobular areas in the group 3 of tap water + ethanol, but collagen synthesis and its thickness of fibrotic septa connecting portal tracts was markedly reduced in the group 2 of ceramic water + ethanol. In immunohistochemistry, myofibroblasts were detected in the ethanol and tap water treated group 3. No or a few myofibroblasts were observed in groups 1 and 2. CYP 2E1 was rarely detected in group 1 fed ceramic water. However, group 2 showed slightly activation of CYP 2E1 in the area of pericentral, while CYP 2E1 was significantly activated in group 3 fed tap and ethanol. Taken together above, alcohol fibrosis model in pig was established. Furthermore, ceramic water had an inhibitory and protecting ability for alcohol-induced hepatic damages.

흐름주입분석법에 의한 주방용기로부터 용출된 알루미늄의 정량 (Determination of Aluminum Leached from Cooking Utensils by using Flow Injection Analysis)

  • Optimal analytical conditions have been established for mixing and reaction coil length, concentrations of ECR, CTAB, and acetate, reaction temperature and pH in the determination of aluminum by using flow injection analysis(FIA). Detection limit and repeatability for this system were $3{\mu}g/L$ and better than 1% of relative standard deviation, respectively. The interference from iron(III) was suppressed up to 6mg/L of iron(III) by $0.1{\mu}M$ ascorbic acid, and the interference from fluoride could be tolerated in absorption of Al/ECR/CTAB derivative by 10mM boric acid at pH 3.5 adjusted with nitric acid. This FIA system was applied to the determination of aluminum leached from cooking utensils by distilled and tap water containing fluoride ranged from 0.5 to 2mg/L by measurement of absorbance for Al/ECR/CTAB at 585nm. The leached aluminum content was increased with increasing concentration of fluoride. The aluminum contents leached from aluminum utensils by tap water were about 9 fold higher than those leached by distilled water, whereas aluminum contents leached by distilled water containing fluoride were about 2 fold higher compared to those leached by distilled water. That represented that other dissolved substances as well as fluoride in tap water contributed to liberation of aluminum from aluminum utensils. A comparison between FIA data and ICP-AES data by correlation and paired t test showed that the FIA system could be accepted as a good alternative method for the determination of aluminum in tap water.

조건부가치측정법을 이용한 부산시 상수도 수질개선에 대한 WTP 추정 (Estimating willingness-to-pay for the tap water quality improvement in Busan using contingent valuation method)

  • The paper is to estimate willingness-to-pay (WTP) for tap water quality improvement in Busan, using parametric approach in contingent valuation method(CVM). For parametric approach linear logit model and log logit model are employed in double-bounded dichotomous choice format of CVM. For the reliability and the validity of contingent valuation method a survey was conducted for 665 respondents, who were sampled by stratified random sampling method, by personal interview method. The result of mean WTP for the tap water quality improvement in Busan was estimated to be 3,687 won and 3,660 won per month per household, while median WTP being 1,884 won and 1,892 won per month per household, respectively by linear logit model and log logit model. Provided that our sample is broadly representative of the Busan's population, an estimate of the annual aggregated benefit of residential water improvement for all Busan households is approximately 29.7 billion won to 29.8 billion won based on median WTP.

  • Scale is formed when hard water is heated or cooled in heat transfer equipments such as heat exchangers, condensers, evaporators, cooling towers, boilers, and pipe walls. When scale deposits in a heat exchanging surface, it is traditionally called fouling. The objective of the present study was to compare the fouling characteristics of river and tap water in a heat exchanging model. FromtheSEM analyses for tap water the $calciteformofCaCO3_{3}$ was formed. For river water, however, the $aragoniteCaCO_{3}$ wasformed.In order to investigate velocity effects on the fouling characteristics in the heat exchanging model, the inlet velocity was varied with 0.5, 1.0 and 1.5 m/s, respectively. The fouling characteristics of river water were quite different from those of tap water. For the case of the 'velocity of 1.5m/s', the overall heat transfer coefficient was reduced up to 26% than that of the 'velocity of 0.5m/s'

  • This study was designed to provide basic data for the application and practical use of vinegar disinfection for raw vegetable preparation in foodservice operations. The test materials were washed and disinfected by three different methods(tap water washing, chlorine water disinfection, vinegar disinfection) and stored at $3^{\circ}C$ and $10^{\circ}C$ for 7 days. Then, their microbiological qualities were compared. Total plate counts increased over the course of the storage period, and all samples, except in the case of tap water washing, remained under the permitted limit until the 7th day of storage. In particular, vinegar disinfection showed the lowest increase in total plate counts(2.35${\sim}$4.03 log CFU/g). While the total plate counts of chlorine and vinegar disinfection were within the 6.00 limit of microbiological safety, the tap water washing treatment passed the permitted limit. The psychrotrophic counts increased steadily over the course of the storage period, and increased least at $3^{\circ}C$, however, the tap water washing showed the most drastic increase, while vinegar disinfection yielded the smallest increase.
