The purpose of this study is to design the requirements for the materials of stabilizing slurry and to determine the optimum slruuy mix design used in the underground wall of Inchon LNG #213 and 214 tank. After the materials and mix conditions of stabilizing slurry investigated and tested, we propose materials and optimum mix design according to testing items including funnel viscosity, we propose materials and optimum mix design according to testing items including funnel viscosity, fluid loss, cake thickness and specific gravity. As this results, we select optimum mix design that the upper limit ratio of bentonite is 2.0%, polymer is 0.1% considering the funnel viscosity and dispersion agent is 0.05% considering the fluid loss. Also we select all materials which are composed of GTC4 as bentonite, KSTP as polymer and Bentocryl as dispersion agent. All test results are satisfied our specifications for stabilizing slurry.

Some rotorcraft fuel tanks are required to be self-sealing and crashworthy for enhancing the survivability of crews. Self-sealing capability prevents the fuel leakage through contacting fuel with self-sealing material when the tank wall is penetrated by projectiles such as bullets. US army established MIL-DTL-27422D which specifies the detail requirements related to gunfire resistant fuel tank especially for military rotorcraft. The Fuel tanks for Korea Helicopter Program have been developed in accordance with MIL-DTL-27422D. The Self-sealing capability of the fuel tanks has been confirmed by the gunfire resistance test which specified on the MIL-DTL-27422D.

New concept of LNG-FPSO ship with moonpool and bilge step in bottom is considered and investigated in the point of motion reduction and sloshing phenomena of the cargo and operation tanks. The cargo capacity of the ship of which principle dimensions is L x B x D x t(design) =270.0 x 51.0 x 32.32 x 13.7(m) 16K at 98% loading condition. The two moonpools and rectangular step at bilge part are setted up specially for getting the effect of motion decrease. For the motion analysis, linearized three dimensional diffraction theory with the simplified boundary conditions is used. The six-degree of freedom coupled motion responses are calculated for the LNG-FPSO ship. Viscous effects on the roll motion responses of a vessel are taken into account in this calculation program using an empirical formula suggested by Ikeda, Himeno and Tanaka is used. The case study for the moonpool size had been carried out by theoretical estimation and experimental method. For the optimization of the moonpool size and effect of the step, 9 cases of its size and with and without step are considered. From the results of calculation and experiment, it can be concluded that this designed LNG-FPSO ship have possibility to carry out her missions in the rough sea as for the owner's demand waves condition. The motion responses, especially roll motion, for the designed LNG-FPSO ship are much lower than those of another drillship and shuttle tanker and limit criterions are satisfied. For the check of the cargo tank and operation tank sizes we have performed sloshing analysis in the irregular waves which focuses on the pressure distribution on the tank wall and the time history of pressure and free surface for No.2 and No5. tanks of LNG-FPSO with chamfers. Finally we got the tank size which has no resonance and no impact pressure in all filling in the bow quartering and beam sea.

Nowadays, it is required for naval ships to estimate 3D underwater radiated noise pattern in all direction at peak frequencies of hull vibration for the reduction of being detected and doing the effective operation. For this purpose, the numerical method has to be developed to calculate 3D underwater radiated noise pattern with experimental data. It is very difficult to obtain the experimental data for the real ship. Alternative to get the experimental results is to use NAH(near-field acoustic holography) in acoustic tank with experimental model. Application of NAH in acoustic tank for the experimental model needs some investigation of reflection wave from the wall of the acoustic tank and unmeasured zone of the experimental model due to the supporting structure for it. In this study, the effect of reflection wave in the acoustic tank and unmeasured area of the experimental model when using the NAH was investigated with experiment and numerical model. From these, it is known for the error due to reflection wave can be reduced when the distance between the measurement plane and source is being shorten. Also, unmeasured area of the experimental model gives rise to some error in the estimation of the far-field acoustic pressure.

SMART100 has a containment pressure and radioactivity suppression system (CPRSS) for passive containment cooling system (PCCS). This prevents overheating and over-pressurization of a containment through direct contact condensation in an in-containment refueling water storage tank (IRWST) and wall condensation in a CPRSS heat exchanger (CHX) in an emergency cool-down tank (ECT). The Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (KAERI) constructed scaled-down test facilities, SISTA1 and SISTA2, for the thermal-hydraulic validation of the SMART100 CPRSS. Three separate effect tests were performed using SISTA1 to confirm the heat removal characteristics of SMART100 CPRSS. When the low mass flux steam with or without non-condensable gas is released into an IRWST, the conditions for mitigation of the chugging phenomenon were identified, and the physical variables were quantified by the 3D reconstruction method. The local behavior of the non-condensable gas was measured after condensation inside heat exchanger using a traverse system. Stratification of non-condensable gas occurred in large tank of the natural circulation loop. SISTA2 was used to simulate a small break loss-of-coolant accident (SBLCOA) transient. Since the test apparatus was a metal tank, compensations of initial heat transfer to the material and effect of heat loss during long-term operation were important for simulating cooling performance of SMART100 CPRSS. The pressure of SMART100 CPRSS was maintained below the design limit for 3 days even under sufficiently conservative conditions of an SBLOCA transient.
LNG storage outer tank is a vertically and horizontally prestressed concrete wall structure. Therefore, when the storage tanks become larger, prestressing tendons become longer and eventually the prestressing loss becomes larger. Also, recently, bomb terrors and accidental crashes have occurred frequently on important infrastructures. Therefore, LNG storage tanks are also exposed to these dangerous scenarios, where they need to be evaluated and protected from these threats. Therefore, in this study, the behavior of 270,000 kL LNG storage outer tank impacted by a flying object is evaluated using implicit FEM code, LS-DYNA. In the analysis, the prestress loss due to the increased length of prestressing tendons from enlargement of outer tank is considered. A comparison study between the LNG tanks with and without prestress loss is performed to investigate the impact behavior and the effect of prestressing force change on the safety and serviceability prestressed concrete containment.

The steady and transient thermal and flow analysis for liquid helium using for the pressurization of liquid rocket propellant tanks have been conducted numerically. The required inner diameter of helium channel that satisfy the design mass flow rate and velocity, through the steady state analyses for various thermal conditions at the wall, is determined and it is found that due to the sign of Joule-Thomson coefficient of helium, the temperature of helium increase monotonically for adiabatic wall condition. The temporal behavior of helium temperature, density, velocity are also investigated under the existence of local heat inflow on the wall.

The flow around a rotating circular cylinder near a plane wall is investigated by the measurement of the lift acting on the cylinder and by the flow visualization using the hydrogen bubble technique in the circulating water tank. The experimental parameters are the rotating direction of the cylinder, the space ratios H/D($H/D=0.05{\sim}0.5$) between cylinder and plane wall and the velocity ratios ${\alpha}({\alpha}=0{\sim}{\pm}2.0)$. In the case of clockwise, the lift on the rotating circular cylinder was increased with the reduction of the space ratios and with the velocity ratios, the upper separation point was more shifted in the rotating direction with them. In the case of anticlockwise, the absolute value of the lift on the rotating circular cylinder was increased with the space ratios and with the velocity ratios, the lower separation point was more shifted in the rotating direction with them.
