All over the value chain, a logistics information system must satisfy several requirements about gathering and sharing related information. For example, distributors or forwarders need up-to-date information for scheduling and managing their logistics resources. Meanwhile, consignors or consignees want to know the dynamic information about current states or location of their goods. Such information is dependent upon the quality of data sets collected throughout the logistics processes. Thus, gathering accurate data promptly is the essential factor for the success of a logistics information system. However, there are limits in reducing both time-gap and man-power for datn sourcing, since this process is done manually or by using bar codes and scanning devices. Smart-tag can be the alternative to such n time-consuming and inefficient operation, especially for handling piles of goods. The tag includes a micro-chip containing data which is remotely readable by readers with antenna. Logistics system with Smart tag can provide all the information anywhere and anytime, and it will increase the efficiency of logistics and satisfaction of users. In this paper, we propose a conceptual architecture for smart-tag based logistics system and describe its functions.

In global shipping logistics, it is important for users to keep track of the location of their continuously moving cargos. Analyzing the GPS data stream coming from the tag which is attached to the cargo, we are able to keep track of the cargo location in terms of going into or out of a certain logistics area using the information of the spatial relationship change between the tag and the logistics area. In this paper, we propose a simulation system for measuring the precision and false alarm rate of the cargo location tracking algorithm which generates spatial events over the global logistics areas. Due to the difficulty of experiment with a real tag, we developed a tag emulator to create a virtual tag which operates exactly like a real tag. We show the cargo location tracking system works correctly with the tag emulator which communicates with it using the same protocol as the real tag.
The purpose of this study is to analyze the RFID recognition performance by level of water. A 13.56 MHz RFID management system for packaged liquid food logistics is consisted of antenna, reader, passive type tags, and embedded controller. The tests were conducted at different level of water, distances between tag and antenna, and position of attached tags. To analyze the RFID recognition performance, maximum recognition distances for a container and recognition rates for a logistics made of 27 containers were measured and analyzed. The maximum recognition distance for a container was different depending on position of attached tags, and attached tag at upside position showed a good performance. But, the recognition rate of 27 containers showed a good ability for attached tags at front side position, 30~35 cm distance to antenna, and water level 1. Therefore, to manage packaged liquid food logistics using RFID system, position of attached tag, distances between tag and antenna, and level of water should be considered.

In this paper, we suggest postal RFID adaptation model, tag data structure and code which can be used for real time trace and track of parcel processing and pallet management. This paper also shows postal RFID application system architecture and testbed based on the proposed tag data structure and code, and shows recognition performance of tag on parcel and pallet by speed and mounting tag material such as can, water, and paper using implemented postal RFID system for postal logistics. The contribution of this paper is to stimulate deployment of RFID technology for postal logistics service and SCM (Supply Chain Management).

RFID technology is applied to port logistics applications since it monitors objects wirelessly without line of sight and constructs ubiquitous system with low cost. Changes of stock status in the warehouse environment make the technology more important for managing such frequent storing and un-storing. Although the RFID has beneficial characteristics of low cost and low complexity, simultaneous responses of RFID tags cause tag identification collision due to absence of elaborate medium access control scheme. Several algorithms have been proposed to overcome the tag collision problem. However, it is difficult to adopt the methods to the logistics systems that has varying loads since there was no consideration on RFID tag's mobility. Therefore, we propose an efficient RFID tag anti-collision protocol, and simulation results demonstrate performance improvement by using the proposed scheme.

This paper introduces the development of HF(NFC) and UHF band(13.56 MHz, 920 MHz) tag antennas, imbedded in a box. In dual band antennas, the HF band tag can be used to inspect the box using NFC, and the UHF band tag can be used for logistics. The dielectric constant of the box material is measured and used for simulation. The Ntag213 chip manufactured by NXP is used in HF loop antennas, since NFC is possible with Ntag213. For the UHF band, the Higgs-3 chip manufactured by Alien is used. The HF tag antenna is located at the center of the UHF tag antenna, and the location of the HF tag antenna is calculated while considering coupling effects. The designed tag can be used by both the bands for the purposes of logistics and authentication.

RFID technologies have attracted a lot of attention in recent years because of their cost/time-effectiveness in large-scale logistics, supply chain management (SCM) and other various potential applications. One of the most important issues of the RFID-based systems is how quickly tags can be identified. Tag collision arbitration plays a more critical role in determining the system performance especially for passive tag-based ones where tag collisions are dealt with rather than prevented. We present a novel tag collision arbitration protocol called Optimum Frame-Slotted Aloha (OFSA). The protocol has been designed to achieve time-optimal efficiency in tag identification through an analytic study of tag identification delay and tag number estimation. Results from our analysis and extensive simulations demonstrate that OFSA outperforms other collision arbitration protocols. Also, unlike most prior anti-collision protocols, it does not require any modification to the current standards and architectures facilitating the rollout of RFID systems.

This paper presents an UHF(Ultra High Frequency) band small cavity structured RFID(Radio Frequency Identification) tag antenna with a long reading range, designed to apply on metal cart or pallet for auto-parts logistics. The size of tag antennas is $140{\times}60{\times}10mm^3$, attached on a exporting metal cart, and it can give the information of inventory and logistics of carts. By collecting the exported carts and increasing the recovery rate of missing carts or pallets, the paid import tax can be refunded when the carts are returned back to the manufacture. The tag antenna was equipped with a cover to prevent damage, and the dielectric constant of the cover is considered for the simulation. The reading range of the tag antenna is 12 m using LP(Linear Polarization), 10 m with CP(Circular Polarization) reader antennas. This 920 MHz UHF RFID cavity tag ensures the long reading distance of the antenna regardless of the material of the object where it is attached.

In recent, rapid and accurate processing for logistics have been required, according as logistics has grown dramatically. Especially, identifying, locating, or tracking objects in ports are important, because ports are gateways to extended markets. In this paper, we describe the design and implementation of a smart tag system for ubiquitous port logistics. Our solution consists of three parts: an active RFID to identify objects, an electronic container seal to charge with security of containers, and a RTLS system to locate objects. Because identification technology for logistics can be read by heterogenous systems, compliance with the international standard is one of the most critical issues. This paper introduces the method to maintain compliance with ISO, and conducts some verifications. In addition, we analyze the system performance such as lifetime, identification rate, and time for multiple tag identification.
RFID(Radio Frequency IDentification) is appearing by point technology by Ubiquitous environment of new paradigm and Logistics' application But, RFID chip of this is high price and short bandwidth, low power and interference etc. can become technological problem This is getting into obstacle in common use. Reader and tag, Embedded software etc.. that are accomplishing standardization are imported paying most expensive royalty. This paper deals with a RFID cognition system that use PDA under ubiquitous environment to apply to Logistics system A RFID cognition system processes input/output of fundamental information attaching a tag onto products. And a RFID cognition system supports quick, correct and sqfe synthetic Logistics managerial system through construction of database. This can minimize logistics costs and improve the quality of customer service. A RFID cognition system has advantage that can widen range of application to area that cognition system of existent fixing style can not do. Also, it can expect economical effect through inexpensive system construction.
