The title compound consisting of a calix[4]arene molecule with four phenyl rings arranged alternately in anti-orientation fashion, two propyloxy groups attached on the upper rim of calix[4]arene, and polyther chain with two phyenyl rings attached on the lower rim of calix[4]arene offers a big cavity inside a molecule with might a potential for forming host-guest complexes.

The objectives of this study were : 1) to investigate the socio-demographic and housing characteristics, 2) to evaluate the present conditions of residential environment, 3) and to analysis the differences of residential environmental evaluation according to the characteristics of low-income families. Questionnaire survey method were used in this study. questionnaire were administrated by 264 household of low-income families in Taejon area. Data were analyzed by SPSS PC computer package. The statistics were frequencies, percentage, t-test, F-test and Ducan's multiple range test. The major findings were as follows; low income families evaluated all of their residential environment at lower, especially the worst of all was the comfortable environment outdoor. there were significant differences in evaluation of residential environment according to the housing characteristics of low income families. The results of this study can be used as basic information for housing p;an and policy for low income families in Taejon area.

This study was carried out to prove the effects of GMBT on the proliferation of splenic lymphocyte, active change of macrophage, T cell and B cell in continuous medication GMBT. The result were obtained as follows : 1. GMBT promote proliferation of splenic lymphocyte in vitro. 2. GMBT pretreated group was showed higher immune response than control group. 3. GMBT was not a rising effect in Con A but a rising effect in PHA. 4. GMBT treated group had highly producted more than 70% NO quality compared with control group. 5. GMBT was twice effect compared with control group in antibody production capacity of SRBC but meaningless m that of Anti-HBs Titer.

A novel melanogenic inhibitory compound, Phytoclear-EL1 (5,10-diacetyl-3-benzoyllathyrol) was isolated from Euphorbiae lathyridis. The effects of EL1 on culture normal human melanocytes (NHM) were assessed. EL1 reduced the melanin synthesis of NHM by 40% at a concentration of 2 $\square$g/ml without any apparent cytotoxicity. We also have found that the treatment of the cells with EL1 decreased the tyrosinase activity by 29% in situ. To elucidate the action mechanism of EL1, we investigated the changes in mRNA levels of tyrosinase, TRP-1 and TRP-2 using RT-PCR technique. AS a result, the mRNA levels of tyrosinase, TRP-1 and TRP-2 were markedly reduced by EL1 treatment. These results suggest that Phytoclear-EL1 is a novel whitening agent that is effective in human melanocytes.

Most renal diseases progress by consecutive cell responses such as hypertrophy, hyperplsia, proliferation, defferentiation, sclerosis, fibrosis and other cellular degenerative process. These cellular responses are mediated by the activation of various mitogens such as vasoconstrictors, growth factors, hormone, genotoxins and cytokines through mechanical, hemodynamic, immunological injury as well as metabolic abnormality. In this paper, we present a VR-based interface method which provides users more natural, realistic, and interactive communication and collaboration tool. Since most services in the communication systems matches with the services in the real world, the best understanding would be achieved when the communication services are represented in accordance with the services in the real world. However, conventional text-based interface and 2D GUI cannot provide such reality to the users. In this paper, we discuss VR-based interface to overcome such difficulty and introduce one instance of communication system using the VR-based realistic, what we call Virtual Village, which we are currently developing. This application might be applied to education in virtual space, desktop conferencing system, and entertainment such as MUD or the games in the distributed environment, etc.

A new device introducing brief pulses of odorozed air synchronized with subject's respiration to human subjects creating a positive response was developed. By the using superimposition technique of an evoked potential the positive responses to skatole in normal subject's were distinguishable. The odorant pulse trigger was the subject's respiration. Responses to aerosolized skatole consisted mainly of a positive wave with a peak latency of approximately 150 ms. In our cases, saturation of responses was found after 4-5 averagings with the responses becoming most clear after 7-8 averagings. And in cases of Alzheimer disease very quick adaptation was recognized.

Application sharing is the ability to use existing applications, such as Excel or MS-Word, during a group session without modification. In this paper, we present the design and implementation of an application sharing system, called ShareIt, which enable users to share arbitrary MS-Windows applications under the Win 3.1/95/NT and X window system, and evaluation of the system performance. To share an application, the image of the application window is captured and transmitted to other sites. With the use of the window capturing method, ShareIt allows any MS-Windows application to be shared regardless of not only the window systems but also the version-up of window systems.

Our platform introduced in this paper is based on DAVIC specifications which define high quality multimedia services with some extensions to provide user friendly and uniform interface to its users. We designed and implemented an integrated service platform for high quality interactive multimedia services, swithed digital broadcasting, and Internet services. The integration in terms of a service provider system, a delivery system, and a service user system is taken into account. Our research results in the development of integrated high quality interactive and digital broadcasting multimedia services with web-based common user interface and its experience will be feedback to the field trial service which will be launched from next year.

This study was to estimate and complete the flora of herbaceous plants found in Mt. Kyeryong National Park, Mt. Bomoon, and Mt. Shikjang in Taejon Korea. This research was conducted from April 1995 to August 1998. Herbaceous vascular plants were composed of 76 families,336 genera,574 species,4 subspecies, 105 varieties and 9 forms, totaling 691 taxa. The useful resource plants were categorized as edible plants (45.4%), medical plants (31.1%), pasture plants (28.7%), ornamental plants (16.4%) and industrial plants (1.6%).
