Effect of Chrysanthemum Morifolium Extracts on the Synthesis of Laminin of Madin-Darby Canine Kidney Cells (감국(甘菊)이 MDCK 세포의 Laminin 합성에 미치는 영향)

  • Basement membranes (BMs) are extracellular matrices associated with epithelia, endothelia, muscle, fat and peripheral nerve. They are involved in cell survival, migration, differentiation. BMs functions also include tissue formation and provide mechanical stability as a selective barriers. Laminins are heterotrimeric glycoproteins found in BMs and have a crucial role in cell adhesion and signalling. Madin-Darby canine kidney (MDCK) cells are the best established mammalian model for studying epithelial cell biology The cells form an epithelial monolayer, with tight junctions separating an apical surface from a basolateral membrane facing the filter support and neighboring cells. In this study, using MDCK cells, the synthesis of the BM protein such as laminin with or without methanol extract of Chrysanthemum morifolium (CM) stimulation was analyzed by immunoblotting and CM showed significant increased cell density and enhanced synthesis of laminin.

Selenization methods for CIGS solar cell prepared by Cu-In-Ga metal precursors (CIGS 태양전지 제조를 위한 Cu-In-Ga 금속 전구체의 셀렌화 방법 연구)

  • $Cu(InGa)Se_2$ (CIGS) 태양전지는 박막형 태양전지 중 가장 높은 에너지 변환 효율이 보고 되고 있다. CIGS 태양전지를 제조하는 방법은 3 단계 동시 증착법, 금속 전구체의 셀렌화 공정법, 전기 증착법 등이 있다. 이 중 금속 전구체의 셀렌화 공정법은 다른 제조 방법에 비해 대면적 생산에 유리하고, 비교적 공정 과정이 간단하다는 장점이 있다. 하지만 금속 전구체의 미세구조 및 제조 방법, 셀렌화 공정의 최적화에 대한 연구가 부족하다. 본 실험에서는 후면전극으로 사용되는 Mo 층이 증착된 소다회 유리(soda-lime glass)를 기판으로 사용하였다. Cu-In(4:6), Cu-Ga(6:4) 타겟을 DC 스퍼터링 시스템을 이용하여 금속 전구체를 증착하였다. 이 후 미국 Delawere 대학교의 IEC 연구소와 한국전자통신연구원 (ETRI)에서 금속 전구체의 셀렌화 공정을 진행하였다. 셀렌화 공정 전후의 금속 전구체의 결정 크기와 미세구조의 변화를 관찰하기 위하여 주사전자현미경 (SEM)과 X선 회절 분석기 (XRD)를 사용하였다. 센렌화 공정이 진행된 금속 전구체 위에 버퍼층으로 사용되는 CdS와 전면전극으로 사영되는 ZnO, ITO 층을 합성한 후 에너지 변환 효율을 측정하였다. 최고 효율은 9.7%로 관찰되었다.

Usability Evalulation of Button Selection Aids for PDAs (PDA 화면 내 버튼 선택을 위한 입력지원방식의 사용성 평가)

  • The primary objective of this study is to design input methods for assisting button selection tasks on a PDA screen. Familiar methods in the existing computing environments were investigated to develop aiding methods. Factors manipulated in the experiment included aiding method, button size, and users' prior experience with PDAs. A total of sixteen participants examined the usability of button selection tasks. Two types of button selection tasks were used as experimental tasks; one was selecting a target button, and the other was selecting multiple target buttons consecutively. The results showed that the aiding method and the button size had significant effects on the subjective satisfaction as well as the performance. In addition, users' prior experience with PDAs affected the performance significantly. The interaction between the aiding method and the button size was found to have significant effects on the performance. However, the interaction effect between the button size and the PDA experience was significant on the task performance time only for the multiple button selection tasks. Design considerations were proposed based on the experimental results. These can be applied to the PDA interaction design to make the PDAs more usable.

  • In this paper we propose a fuzzy-neural network(FNN) which includes both advantages of the fuzzy logic and the neural network. The basic idea of the FNN is to realize the fuzzy rule-base and the process of reasoning by neural network and to make the corresponding parameters be expressed by the connection weights of neural network. After constructing the FNN, a novel controller consisting of a conventional P-controller and a FNN is explained. In this control scheme, the rule-base of a FNN are automatically generated by error back-propagation algorithm. Also the parallel connection of the P-controller and the FNN can guarantee the stability of a plant at initial stage before the rules are completely created. Finally the effectiveness of the proposed strategy will be verified by computer simulations using a 2 degree of freedom robot manipulator.

  • Objectives : The aim of experiment is to examine anti-inflammatory effect and anti-oxidant effect of Naesohwangryun-tang (NSHRT) in LPS-stimulated RAW264.7 macrophage cells. Methods : In the present study, The cell viability was performed by MTT assay. Nitric oxide (NO) production and prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) synthesis were performed by NO assay and ELISA KIT. The anti-oxidant effect was performed by DPPH and ABTS radical scavenging activity. The inhibitory effects of pro-inflammatory mediators and cytokines were confirmed by realtime PCR and western blotting. Results : NSHRT was no cytotoxicity at treated group. NO and PGE2 production were inhibited compared to the LPS treated group and also mRNA and protein expressions were significantly decreased compared to the LPS treated group. Conclusions : According to the above experiments, we confirmed that NSHRT has anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant effects. It is suggested that NSHRT is potential ingredient of skin diseases.

  • This paper represents the mobile robot system remote controlled by PDA(personal digital assistance). So far, owing to the development of internet technologies, lots of remote control methods through internet have been proposed. To control a mobile robot through internet and guide it under unknown environment, We propose a control method activated by PDA. In a proposed system, PDA acts as a user interface to communicate with notebook as a controller of the mobile robot system using TCP/IP protocol, and the notebook controls the mobile robot system. The information about the direction and velocity of the mobile robot feedbacks to the PDA and the PDA send new control method produced from the fuzzy inference engine.

  • As an approach to develope a control system with high robustness in changing control environment conditions, this paper will propose a robust control system, using multilayer neural network and biological immune system. The proposed control system adjusts weights of the multilayer neural network(MNN) with the immune algorithm. This algorithm is made up of two major divisions, the innate immune algorithm as a first line of defence and the adaptive immune algorithm as a barrier of self-adjustment. Using the proposed control system based on immune algorithm, we will work out a design for the controller of a robot manipulator. And we will demonstrate the effectiveness of the control system of robot manipulator with computer simulations.

  • A 32-year-old woman complaining of cough, sputum, and chest discomfort for the past ten days was admitted to the hospital. The radiologic findings were transradiant left lung with reduced number and size of vessels, mediastinal shifting to the right at expiration, matched ventilation-perfusion defect on ventilation-perfusion scan, and diffuse hypoplasia of the left pulmonary artery and i1s branches on the pulmonary angiography. We describe a case of unilateral hyperlucent lung by main bronchus obstruction in a patient who presents a clinical picture suggestive of the Swyer-James syndrome.

Characterization of Fine Dust Collection Using a Filter Ventilation (환기장치와 필터를 활용한 미세먼지 제거특성 조사)

  • In this study, we examined the removal characteristics of suspended particulate matters which are one of carcinogens to cause lung cancer. The fine dust capture by a pilot scale filtration system depends on several important variables such as humidity, initial fine dust injection volume, and flow rate. The average concentration of particulate matters in the test chamber decreased, but the ultimate collection efficiency did not change during the filtration under high humidity, compared to those of using ambient conditions The initial injection amount of fine dust did not influence the particle capturing efficiency. When the flow rate reduced from 0.6 m/s to 0.3 m/s, the dust collection time increased approximately 1.4 times. Among all variables tested, the flow rate showed the most significant effect on the removal efficiency of fine particulate matter.

  • An improving example for traditional rapid mix system was studied in the base of mechanisms of alum coagulation. Local status of the major water treatment plants was also investigated and evaluated for upgrading these plants. A new design and operating criterium for rapid mix system was proposed to velocity gradient, G of $1,000-1,500sec^{-1}$ and detention time, t of 1 sec from the results of experiments and literature reviews. Comparing the present rapid mix system to this criterium, apparent difference existed between them. In this study, for improving Seongnam water treatment plant, a design criterium of velocity gradient, and detention time was set to $1,100sec^{-1}$, 1 sec, respectively. A new rapid mix system adopted the nozzle injection countcurrently cross the inlet pipe to the whole area. The injection velocity was 17m/s, nozzle diameter was 1.0mm, and number of nozzle was 70. The new modified system without running present four 75 HP agitators was able to improve water quality(based on sedimentation effluent) by 15-35% and to reduce electrical energy by 98%.
