  • VMP(Variable Message Protocol) is bit-based variable message processing protocol that enables the sharing situation information in real time as a tactical datalink protocol for Korean Army. System A is currently under development and will be operated as an army system when its development is completed. In system A, the VMP processing terminal is mounted and the VMP is utilized for exchanging tactical information. System A can acquire situation information from mounted situation information acquisition system and share situation information with other system A by the VMP. In this paper, we propose a method of sharing situation information with system A and speed improvement methods of sharing situation information using VMP. As speed improvement methods of sharing situation information, this paper studied 'Removing Process of Sending VMP Observation Report', 'Adopting One-time Situation Information Send Button When Sharing A System Situation Information By VMP', 'Combination of Many VMP Messages Using Repeat Function Of Application Header'. And we conducted the experiment, the result was that the transmission speed of equipment to which the research method was applied was improved by 76.8% compared to the existing equipment.

  • Wireless mesh network (WMN) has recently emerged as a promising technology for tactical operation. If a platoon is organized with MPs, this system is suitable for tactical coverage is given for battle field where there is a shortage of wired infrastructure. However, MPs of typical WMN are generally fixed. This condition does not apply to diverse tactical scenarios. In this paper, it is considered that MPs have group mobility for flexible tactical networks. We propose cluster based multi-channel MAC scheme for mobilie WMN with single antenna condition. We have reduced the collision problems and message storming problems occur by mobility, so the reliability of WMN has been improved. Consequently, reliable communication is guaranteed by our framework in mobile WMN.

  • Recently, drones have been used in various field to overcome time and space limitations. However, single drone still has a lot of restriction on transportation wight and travel time. Therefore many studies have been conducted to increase the utilization by swarm of drones. Many things should be additionally considered in order to operate swarming drones securely. Especially the group key management is a challenging research topic in tactical domain due to existence of adversary that has anti-drone skill. In this paper, we proposed an efficient group key management scheme for tactical swarming drone networks where an adversary equipped with anti-drone skills exists. The group key can be updated with a small number of message exchange compared to other convenience schemes. The numerical and simulation results demonstrate that the proposed scheme manages the group key efficiently and securely.

  • It is important to consider saving location of message structures, structure of parser and creating method of parser generator for adopting KVMF to increase interoperability among different weapon systems. Especially, it requires to design the message parser by analyzing performance and maintenance when we adopting KVMF to previously developed weapon systems. In this paper, we propose the method of concurrent dynamic message processing for KMVF message based on KVID to support the developed and next-developed weapon systems. We show message conversion accuracy and performance effectiveness by adopting proposed method to Batallion Tactical Combat System.

  • The Army, Navy, and Air Force are making various efforts to develop a weapon system that incorporates the 4th industrial revolution technology so that it can be used in multi-domain operations. In order to effectively demonstrate the integrated combat power through the weapon system to which the new technology is applied, it is necessary to establish a network environment in which each weapon system can transmit and receive information smoothly. For this, it is essential to analyze the Information Exchange Requirement(IER) of each weapon system, but many IER analysis studies did not sufficiently reflect the various considerations of the actual tactical network. Therefore, this study closely analyzes the research methods and results of the existing information exchange requirements analysis studies. In IER analysis, the size of the message itself, the size of the network protocol header, the transmission/reception structure of the tactical network, the information distribution process, and the message occurrence frequency. In order to be able to use it for future IER prediction, we present a technique for calculating the information exchange requirement as a probability distribution using the Poisson distribution and the probability generating function. In order to prove the validity of this technique, the results of the probability distribution calculation using the message list and network topology samples are compared with the simulation results using Network Simulator 2.

  • In this paper, we propose a scalable content-based routing scheme for the tactical mobile ad-hoc networks where the nodes usually move together forming a group. Our scheme is classified as a content-based routing scheme based on publish and subscribe model. The nodes compose a cluster according to their position and interest. Our scheme allows multi-level cluster nesting. As a publish/subscribe model does, each node announces its interest to the cluster head who aggregates and announces the interests from cluster members to its neighbor cluster head. Actual data messages are delivered to the end node via cluster header in the reverse direction of the interest announcement. Using Qualnet simulator, we evaluated the performance of our scheme in comparison with two well-known content-based routing schemes. Simulation results show that our scheme maintains higher message delivery ratio as number of nodes increases whereas the two schemes show much lower delivery ratio. In addition, as the group mobility gets faster our scheme incurs less or similar control message overhead compared with the two schemes.

  • In this paper, we propose a new reliable multicast MAC protocol over the IEEE 802.11-based tactical ad hoc networks. The major contribution compared to the previous reliable multicast schemes using consecutive CTSs/ACKs is that the proposed scheme can send multiple CTS/ACK messages concurrently assisted by MC-DS/CDMA mechanisms. When multiple receivers receive the RTS/DATA message from a sender, they respond with the CTS/ACK message spread with pre-assigned code in the same time interval. The proposed scheme can reduce the overhead of multiple CTSs/ACKs. It is also possible to alleviate the received signal strength at the enemy detector and thus it improves low probability of detection performance. Through simulations and analysis, the proposed scheme outperforms that of the multiple CTSs/ACks in terms of the throughput, transmission delay and low probability of detection.

  • Tactical Data Links are standardized radio communication data links for military armed forces and used to transmit and receive data. Because they are the core elements of achieving information superiority in a NCW environment, various kinds of TDL are used by the Korean armed forces. Operating various types of TDL is very helpful in getting more information; however, at the same time, it is hard to integrate and make them co-operate with other TDLs or C4ISR systems. In this paper, we propose a XML based messaging system to make various types of TDL interoperable in a NCW environment. For the messaging system between TDL and C4ISR systems, we define XML message processing interfaces and suggest binary XML for serialization to save transmission loads over constrained military communication bandwidth. Our experiment results show that the TDL message can be transformed into generalized XML data that is interoperable with other TDLs and binary XML serialization, and it saves parsing and transmission time.

  • In this paper, we propose two-way authentication protocol between unmanned systems in tactical wireless networks in which long distance communications are not guaranteed due to a poor channel conditions. It is assumed that every unmanned systems have same random data set before they put into combat. The proposed protocol generates authentication code(AC) using random data that causes hash collision. The requester for authentication encrypts the materials such as their identifier, time-stamp, authentication code with the secret key. After then the requester transmits the encrypted message to the receiver. The receiver authenticates the requester by verifying the authentication code included in the request message. The performance analysis of the proposed protocol shows that it guarantees the security for various attack scenarios and efficiency in terms of communication overhead and computational cost. Furthermore, we analyzed the effect of the parameter values of the proposed protocol on the performance and suggest appropriate parameter value selection guide according to the level of security requirement.

  • Air Defense Command Control and Alert(ADC2A) system is a system that ensures simultaneity and integrity of air defense operations by combining sensors, weapons and Command and Control(C2) systems over a tactical network to protect forces, facilities and strategic points from enemy's air attack. Improving message processing speed is a very important factor for ADC2A, because it uses high frequency bit-processing of the Army standard KVMF message to communicate with internal and external systems. In this paper we proposed improved method of KVMF message processing for ADC2A system.
