Compromised Sexual Territoriality Under Reflexive Cosmopolitanism: From Coffee Bean to Gay Bean in South Korea (이성애 중심 공간에서 조화로운 게잉과 게이의 성적 수행 공간으로: 종로구 '게이빈' 사례를 중심으로)

  • This article examines the sexualization of place under conditions of the compressed modernization and reflexive cosmopolitanism. In particular, I adopt Michel de Certeau's spatial didactic model of strategy and tactic to investigate the dynamics at play in the gay labelling of a Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf (Coffee Bean) in South Korea, and explore the 'gaying' that takes place within preconceived heteronormative space. Using interview data, I additionally explore the negotiation tactics and coping mechanisms at work when gays compete with heterosexuals for non-gay place. The results illustrate how gays gay in heteronormative space and how heteronormative space harmoniously embodies gay men. The findings suggest that spatial location and tactic play important roles in stimulating compromise of sexual territory. Gay Bean benefits from being nestled between locations with histories of tolerance, while it also prospers from reflexive cosmopolitan ideals of diversity and acceptance of others. Gay identity and gaying is interpreted as foreign in Korea, which buttresses gay performativity in spaces welcoming of foreigners and so-called "deviance." However, how gaying functions within place relies not only on spatial histories of tolerance outside, but also on the tactics of identity negotiation within. The findings suggest that spatial and tactical conditions induce gay individuals to police other gay-identified individuals when gays gay in so-called heteronormative places.

An Extended Negotiation Agent Using Multi-Issues under Time-Constraint Environment (시간제약 환경에서 다중 속성을 이용한 확장된 협상 에이전트)

  • The Internet has become a part of our life and has changed our living environments dramatically. However, Electronic Commerce (EC) stays currently at a level that a buyer deals only with an one-sided condition (price) proposed by a seller or compares the proposed condition to find a better one. As the agent technology makes progress, EC requires negotiation that is not one-sided but is a way to maximize profits of both seller and buyer. Moreover, negotiation in EC should consider multiple issues rather than a single issue to replace the traditional commerce. In this paper we propose a negotiation model, which guarantees balanced profits between two agents through negotiation using multi-issues, and makes a deal successfully under time-constraint environment. The proposed negotiation model suggests strategies(alternative and simultaneous strategy) that change the value of issues with each agent has time for negotiation. In this paper, we also suggest a strategy that proposes an offer to each other. We compare the proposed negotiation model with another negotiation model. The experimental results show that dynamic conceder tactic and linear tactic showed balanced profits and a high percentage of deals for negotiation between two agents, and the sum of utilities of two agents is high, when the alternative strategy is used.

The temptation of the slippery slope argument: A research of its nature (미끄러운 경사길 논증의 유혹: 그 실체의 탐구)

  • The slippery slope argument means that if we accept a type of action A, we are committed to accepting B, C and eventually N. Then, N is situation which we must not accept morally. It works causal mechnism that B because A is raised, C because B is raised. But in the logic textbooks and treatises, the slippery slope argument is classified as fallacy. The reason is that the argument is not a causal argument. Actually, it is a probable. Also it is argued that the argument is wrong because it fears about the future extremely. But We can not say all slippery slope argument is fallacy even though a slippery slope argument is sometimes fallacy. I think it is persuasive argument in a significant place. Therefore I argue that the argument is not simple logic as a form of thinking, but practical reasoning applied the context of dialogue. So in order to find it to be practical reasoning we demand the new understanding to fallacy theory. In traditionally, fallacy is defined to wrong reasoning logically, but according to Walton, fallacy means a verbal tactic or deceptive trick that can be used to cause someone to fall down in argument. That is to say, whether or not the argument is successful depends on how it uses as argument tactic in a given context of dialogue. Therefore I argue that whether or not the argument is successful, because of it is practical problem used in a context of dialogue, is to be approached to pragma and dialectical method, not semantic.

A Study on Error Analysis & Hedging Expressions of Medical Research Abstracts

  • Error analysis plays an important role because understanding the types of errors can give a better opportunity for both teachers and learners to recognize the nature of errors and ways of preventing them. This study looks into errors in the medical research abstracts written by 26 Koreans and also examines hedging expressions since hedging can be a necessary tactic in which the validity and objectivity of their claims is conveyed. The hedging expressions of these research abstracts are to be compared with those of Hyland (1996)'s study done on ENL academic writers of cell and molecular biology. The results of the study reveal that wrong word choice was the most commonly occurred errors, followed by prepositions, articles, adding and missing words. Many of these errors, except articles, seemed to derive from the native language interference. There were also run-on sentences, subject & verb agreement, tense, word order and minor errors. As for hedging, ESL medical writers seemed to use very limited hedging expressions and inappropriately strong modals. It is recommended to take variations of hedges using epistemic adverbials and adjectives to present their claims in a more valid and polite way. Limited verb choice was also noted. As for preventing or minimizing similar future errors, collocation practices in ESP focused on commonly used medical related words and expressions can be effective.

  • With international urgence of terror situation, many methods of terror techniques and skills are appearing and more intense and threatening terror is braking out not only in the air(plane), but also in the sea(ship). Korea is surrounded by 3 sides of sea and is a proud maritime nation that should advance to foreign country through the sea because South Korea and North Korea are confronting. Korea depend on the maritime transportation, 99.7% of exporting, importing material resources. Therefore, acquisition of the marine safety has the great affect on national security and economical life. On the high tension of situation about threat and possibility of maritime terroism, the potential ways of the improvement policy for counter-tactics against big maritime terror are the following. First, we should construct clear and well-organized network for accurate information about maritime terrorism Second, we should have the information of all domestic, foreign passenger's ships Third, national important facilities such as atomic energy plant, thermo-electric power plant, shipyard need policies to manage all emergency situation Fourth, government authorities should improve tactic abilitities by competing with support and budget inside of nation as well as outside of nation. To develop big maritime terror of our country, we will have to hold cooperative training & tactics contest of big maritime terror by cooperating educational industry organization with similar institute, improve the ability of members of big terror and acquire tactics information by excavating and exchanging a new technique through tactics seminar and public hearing.

Influence of Service Marketing-Mix(7Ps) on Consumers' Risk Perception of Eating at Family Restaurants in Seoul (서울지역 패밀리레스토랑의 서비스마케팅믹스(7Ps)성과가 고객의 구매위험인지에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this article was to study how the 7Ps influence consumers' risk perception of eating at family restaurants in Seoul. In this study, frequency analysis, reliability analysis, factor analysis and path analysis (SEM) of the data were performed. First, reliability analysis confirmed that the 7Ps performance and risk data could be used in this investigation. Path analysis showed that the 7Ps significantly influenced customers' risk perception of eating at restaurants in Seoul. According to the results, product negatively influenced performance risk (p<0.05) and financial risk (p<0.001); price negatively influenced performance risk (p<0.001), financial risk (p<0.001), and time risk (p<0.01); place negatively influenced performance risk (p<0.01) and time risk (p<0.001); promotion negatively influenced financial risk (p<0.05) and time risk (p<0.001); process negatively influenced performance risk (p<0.001) and time risk (p<0.001); physical evidence negatively influenced performance risk (p<0.05) and financial risk (p<0.001); and people negatively influenced performance risk (p<0.05), financial risk (p<0.001), and time risk (p<0.001). As a result, we confirmed that 7Ps were an effective marketing tactic for reducing consumers' risk perception of eating at restaurants. Therefore, family restaurant companies are recommended to administer the 7Ps without additional cost.

Identification and Distribution of predominant tactic Acid Bacteria in Kimchi, a Korean Traditional Fermented Food

  • To effectively investigate the identification and distribution of the lactic acid bacteria in Kimchi, polyphasic methods, including a PCR, SDS-PAGE of the whole-cell proteins, and 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis, were used. In various types of Kimchi fermented at 20$\^{C}$, the isolate KHU-31 was found to be the predominant lactic acid bacteria. This isolate was identified as Lactobacillus sake KHU-31, based on SDS-PAGE of the whole-cell proteins and a 165 rRNA gene sequence analysis, which provided accurate and specific results. Accordingly, the approach used in the current study demonstrated that Lactobacillus sake KHU-31, together with Leuconostoc mesenteroides, were the most predominant lactic acid bacteria in all types of Kimchi in the middle stage of fermentation at 20$\^{C}$.

  • As the existing paradigm of consumption has changed, companies have been actively engaged in targeting culture-oriented emotion, creating added values through appealing to customers' emotion and improving the values of culture and art. Each company has created differentiated space and inner space to lead trends, and has provided space for various experiences as an innovative marketing area to attract customers and promote consumption. In this aspect, we should focus on space marketing which considers cultural background or emotion as a main target Therefore, this study selected a cultural program as a strategic means to identify space marketing in terms of experience. The study speculated marketing in terms of space experience and analysed space for cultural programs with differentiated experiences in order to use the results as basic data for identifying the marketing values of the cultural programs and their uses. The results of the study are presented as follows: when space experience is a factor of marketing and the cultural program is a tactic in terms of marketing, their specific relations are speculated through a certain module. The order of using the cultural program for space experience, features of space representation and tactics for experience were different and the strategies evoked very complicated and mixed experiences.

  • This article covenants with the post buckling witticism of carbon nanotube reinforced composite (CNTRC) beam supported with an elastic foundation in thermal atmospheres with arbitrary assumed random system properties. The arbitrary assumed random system properties are be modeled as uncorrelated Gaussian random input variables. Unvaryingly distributed (UD) and functionally graded (FG) distributions of the carbon nanotube are deliberated. The material belongings of CNTRC beam are presumed to be graded in the beam depth way and appraised through a micromechanical exemplary. The basic equations of a CNTRC beam are imitative constructed on a higher order shear deformation beam (HSDT) theory with von-Karman type nonlinearity. The beam is supported by two parameters Pasternak elastic foundation with Winkler cubic nonlinearity. The thermal dominance is involved in the material properties of CNTRC beam is foreseen to be temperature dependent (TD). The first and second order perturbation method (SOPT) and Monte Carlo sampling (MCS) by way of CO nonlinear finite element method (FEM) through direct iterative way are offered to observe the mean, coefficient of variation (COV) and probability distribution function (PDF) of critical post buckling load. Archetypal outcomes are presented for the volume fraction of CNTRC, slenderness ratios, boundary conditions, underpinning parameters, amplitude ratios, temperature reliant and sovereign random material properties with arbitrary system properties. The present defined tactic is corroborated with the results available in the literature and by employing MCS.

Damage identification of 2D and 3D trusses by using complete and incomplete noisy measurements

  • Four algorithms for damage detection of trusses are presented in this paper. These approaches can detect damage by using both complete and incomplete measurements. The suggested methods are based on the minimization of the difference between the measured and analytical static responses of structures. A non-linear constrained optimization problem is established to estimate the severity and location of damage. To reach the responses, the successive quadratic method is used. Based on the objective function, the stiffness matrix of the truss should be estimated and inverted in the optimization procedure. The differences of the proposed techniques are rooted in the strategy utilized for inverting the stiffness matrix of the damaged structure. Additionally, for separating the probable damaged members, a new formulation is proposed. This scheme is employed prior to the outset of the optimization process. Furthermore, a new tactic is presented to select the appropriate load pattern. To investigate the robustness and efficiency of the authors' method, several numerical tests are performed. Moreover, Monte Carlo simulation is carried out to assess the effect of noisy measurements on the estimated parameters.
