Although researchers have proposed various recommendation systems, most recommendation approaches are for single users and there are only a small number of recommendation approaches for groups. However, TV programs or movies are most often viewed by groups rather than by single users. Most recommendation approaches for groups assume that single users' profiles are known and that group profiles consist of the single users' profiles. However, because it is difficult to obtain group profiles, researchers have only used synthetic or limited datasets. In this paper, we report on various group recommendation approaches to a real large-scale dataset in a TV domain, and evaluate the various group recommendation approaches. In addition, we provide some guidelines for group recommendation systems, focusing on home group users in a TV domain.
Collaborative filtering(CF) for the personalized recommendation is a successful and popular method in recommender systems. But the mainly researched and implemented cases focus on dealing with independent items with explicit feedback by users. For the domain of TV program recommendation in VOD service platform, we need to consider the unique characteristic and constraints of the domain. In this paper, we studied on the way to convert the viewing history of each TV program episodes to the TV program preference by considering the series structure of TV program. The former is implicit for personalized preference, but the latter tells quite explicitly about the persistent preference. Collaborative filtering is done by the unit of series while data gathering and final recommendation is done by the unit of episodes. As a result, we modified CF to make it more suitable for the domain of TV program VOD recommendation. Our experimental study shows that it is more precise in performance, yet more compact in calculation compared to the plain CF approaches. It can be combined with other existing CF techniques as an algorithm module.

In this paper, we propose a power allocation scheme of the unlicensed user based on orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) in the TV white space (TVWS). Power constraints in TVWS should be satisfied in the time domain. However, because OFDM has high PAPR (peak-to-average power ratio), it is difficult to satisfy power constraints of TVWS in the time domain. Furthermore, the conventional power allocation schemes cannot be generally applied to unlicensed user in TVWS. Therefore, we propose a power allocation scheme to satisfy power constraints of TVWS by reducing PAPR in the time domain. In addition, we analyze the capacity of the unlicensed user based on OFDM in a closed form. Based on the capacity analysis, as the number of subcarriers decreases, the capacity can be enhanced. In simulation results, we show that the capacity of the unlicensed user increases, as the number of subcarriers decreases and the mean of the channel between the transmitter and the receiver of the unlicensed user increases.
We give several characterizations of a TV-PVMD and we show that the localization R[X;S]$_{N_{\upsilon}}$ of a semigroup ring R[X;S] is a TV-PVMD if and only if R is a TV-PVMD where $N_{\upsilon}\;=\;\{f\;{\in}\;R[X]{\mid}(A_f)_{\upsilon} = R\}$ and S is a torsion free cancellative semigroup with zero.
Objective: This paper focuses on the new trend of applying NUI(natural user interface) such as gesture interaction into television and investigates on the design improvement needed in application. The intention is to find better design direction of NUI on television context, which will contribute to making new features and behavioral changes occurring in next-generation television more practically usable and meaningful use experience elements. Background: Traditional television is rapidly evolving into next-generation television thanks to the influence of "smartness" from mobile domain. A number of new features and behavioral changes occurred from such evolution are on their way to be characterized as the new experience elements of next-generation television. Method: A series of expert review by television UX professionals based on AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process) was conducted to check on the "relative appropriateness" of applying gesture interaction to a number of selected television user experience scenarios. Conclusion: It is critical not to indiscriminately apply new interaction techniques like gesture into television. It may be effective in demonstrating new technology but generally results in poor user experience. It is imperative to conduct consistent validation of its practical appropriateness in real context. Application: The research will be helpful in applying gesture interaction in next-generation television to bring optimal user experience in.

In the paper, we propose efficient article and scene change detection algorithms to make the index of sports news compressed in MPEG-2 domain. In the proposed algorithm, the information in MPEG-2 compressed domain is directly used without decoding to save the computation time. The scene change detection algorithm is constructed in an hierarchical method so that the time for detection can be greatly reduced. Also, the algorithm can provide the robust detection against abrupt illuminance change because the luminance and chrominance components are simultaneously considered. Also, the scene change caused by special effect such as dissolve and wipe can be detected in the compressed domain. In the article detection, the algorithm is constructed for robust detection of the anchor frame using the concept of CCV(Color Coherent Vector).

With the advent of ubiquitous computing environments, it has become increasingly important for applications to take full advantage of context information, such as the user's location, to offer greater services to the user without any explicit request. In this paper, we propose context-aware active services on the basis of CAMUS (Context-Aware Middleware for URC Systems). CAMUS is a middleware for providing context-aware applications with development and execution methodology. Accordingly, the applications developed by CAMUS respond in a timely fashion to contexts. To evaluate, we apply proposed active services to TV application domain. Therefore, we implement and experiment the TV contents recommendation service agent, control service agent and TV task based on CAMUS. The context-aware TV task is to recommend programs and control of TV according to user preference, location and voice commands.

In this paper, we propose context-aware active services based on context-aware middleware for URC systems (CAMUS). The CAMUS is a middleware that provides context-aware applications with a development and execution methodology. Accordingly, the applications based on CAMUS respond in a timely fashion to contextual information. This paper presents the system architecture of CAMUS and illustrates the content recommendation and control service agents with the properties, operations, and tasks for context-aware active services. To evaluate CAMUS, we apply the proposed active services to a TV application domain. We implement and experiment with a TV content recommendation service agent, a control service agent, and TV tasks based on CAMUS. The implemented content recommendation service agent divides the user's preferences into common and specific models to apply other recommendations and applications easily, including the TV content recommendations.
In this paper, we propose a classification system of TV program scenes based on audio information. The system classifies the video scene into six categories of commercials, basketball games, football games, news reports, weather forecasts and music videos. Two type of audio feature set are extracted from each audio frame-timbral features and coefficient domain features which result in 58-dimensional feature vector. In order to reduce the computational complexity of the system, 58-dimensional feature set is further optimized to yield l0-dimensional features through Sequential Forward Selection (SFS) method. This down-sized feature set is finally used to train and classify the given TV program scenes using κ -NN, Gaussian pattern matching algorithm. The classification result of 91.6% reported here shows the promising performance of the video scene classification based on the audio information. Finally, the system stability problem corresponding to different query length is investigated.

To fully utilize scarce spectrum resource, it's necessary to develop and evaluate promising business models prior to making technology R&D plan and industrial promotion policy. The purpose of this paper is to design potential business models, evaluate the propriety of commercializing the models, and discuss promotion policies after exploring promising sectors consuming spectrum resources. The research is based on TV white space, which is vacant TV channels in region or time domain and considered as core spectrum resource along with digital terrestrial television switchover. As the result, four kinds of business models were derived, including broadcasting and telecommunication types. Each model was discussed from four standpoints: customer value proposition, profit formula, key resources, and key processes, and the propriety for commercialization was evaluated by three dimensions: technological evaluations, business-oriented evaluations, and user-oriented evaluations. The promotion policies of government and market participants for the activation of TV White space-based business models were discussed as well.
