Fault detection of shadow mask by use of image data processing

  • At the KACC'91 conference, we proposed a method of automatic detection of shape of the faulty holes of a shadow mask which is used in a cathode-ray tube of a color television. In this method, the image data are taken from two areas of the mask with CCD camera. Comparing the shape of holes in these two areas by use of a signal processing technique, we can find any fault in the shape of holes. This paper describes the effect of smoothing filters of effectively finding the faulty holes from the difference image data. A computer simulation and actual experiment with a shadow mask have shown that this method of fault detection is very effective for practical use.

The Effect of Media on Taking Plastic Surgery (미디어 노출이 성형 행동에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of media on plastic surgery experiment. Firstly this study try to find the relationship between exposure to media and other intervening factors(e.g., body image, self-esteem, fashion attitude). The data collected for this study was gathered through questionnaire survey with 443 female students in Seoul. The results are as follows: Using ANOVA, we found that those prefer the magazine over TV or Internet had positive body image, higher self-esteem, and positive fashion attitude(e.g., personality/self-expression, fashion leadership, sexual attraction). Using regression analysis, we found that the we found that the factors influence plastic surgery behavior are the exposure to magazine and the factors influence plastic surgery planning are the clothing attitude (especially fashion leading power, sexual attraction).

  • Recent mechatronics technology is the most appropriate high technology in the agricultural application to save repetitious labor. Cow's body parameters were measured by traditional several measurer. Image processing technology was used to measure automatically their parameters to reduce lots of labor and time. The parameters were measured form a small model cow, which is easily measured, instead to a real cow. The image processing system designed and built for this project was composed of a Pentium PC, and TV frame card two cameras which were located on side and top of model cow. 11 parameters of cow's body were measured and the error between real data and the data by image processing was less than 10%. Based on the results of this research the parameters of a real cow could be measured in the future.

  • A flow measurement system which is able to measure the instantaneous three-dimensional velocity components and the pressure distribution of fluid flows is developed using a digital image processing system and the stereoscopic photogrammetry. This system consists of two TV cameras a digital image processor and a 32-bit microcomputer. The capability of the developed system is verified by a preliminary test in which three-dimensional displancements of moving particles arranged on a rotating plate are tracked automatically. The constructed system is through the measurement and spatial pressure distribution is also obtained. The measurement uncertainty of this system is evaluated quantitatively. The present technique is applicable to the measurement of an unsteady fluid phenomenon especially to the measurement of three-dimensional velocity field of a complex flow.

  • Motion capture means the recording of movement of objects such as human beings, animals, creatures, machines, etc in a form applicable to computer. Since the motion capture system can be introduced to the fields where realistic movement of human beings and animals, which cannot be attained with an existing key frame method is required, large scale is necessary or economical burden exists, it has a merit and possibility of new expression. For these reasons, this method is increasingly used in the field of digital entertainment such as movie, TV, advertisement, documentary, music video, etc centering around the game. However, in spite of such an advantage, problems such as too much advance preparation work in digital image expressions using motion capture, marker attachment, compensation of motion data, motion retargeting and lack of professional human resources, etc. are becoming a prominent figure. Accordingly, this study intends to suggest the way of more effective production of motion capture digital image through finding the problems and their draft possible solutions in the production process based on the image production examples using motion capture.

  • Recently, with the advent of stereoscopic 3D TV, the activation of 3D stereoscopic content is expected. Research on 3D auto stereoscopic display has been carried out to relieve discomfort of 3D stereoscopic display. In this research, it is necessary to generate the elemental image from a lens array. As the number of lens in a lens array is increased, it takes a lot of time to generate the elemental image, and it will take more time for a large volume data. In order to improve the problem, in this paper, we propose a method to generate the elemental image by using OpenCL based on CUDA. We perform our proposed method on PC environment with one of Tesla C1060, Geforce 9800GT and Quadro FX 3800 graphics cards. Experimental results show that the proposed method can obtain almost 20 times better performance than recent research result[11].

  • Digital broadcast environment led to the emergence of UHDTV following HDTV. The demands for realistic images which are created with the use of UHDTV have been applied to various fields. Of various application methods, multiplanar imaging, which is used to display high definition image contents after multiple HD or UHD displays are connected with each other up and down, and left and right, is often applied to display images and the advertising market. Today, the firms that make high-definition multiplanar images mostly use their independently developed program. Therefore, it costs higher than other general works. For the reason, multiplanar image contents are mostly made in the way of enlarging HD images over 2 to 5 times. In this experiment, the software application widely known for UHDTV based multiplanar images is applied to test a method of implementing UHD panoramic realistic images without quality degradation.

  • As security and surveillance have become the center of interest, remote controlled CCTV(Closed-Circuit Television) market has been formed while rapid development of digital image compression technology and Internet triggered the advent of web cameras. The characteristic of web camera is that it can provide users with higher quality image than CCTV at any place where Internet access is available. However, As for the system administrator, the existing web camera have disadvantage in that they allows users only. who are connected to the server of the web camera, to see the image from it. In this paper, in order to make up for this defect, designed multi-vision interface showing multi images on single screen and, for the purpose of the improvement in efficiency, the functions of saving images and of scheduling the time to save the images.

  • There have been more demands for the culture and leisure activity services in the industry friendly to older adults. Of these culture and leisure activities, the activity of their watching TV programs and online media content has been on the increase. High-resolution display devices have become popular and are cheaper than before, and hardware for realizing multi-dimensional images can be easily configured. However, it is not easy to view high-resolution multi-dimensional images that reflect the physical and mental characteristics of the elderly. It is expected that the results of this study contributes to developing a variety of content for older adults' culture and leisure activities with the use of reality image technology and promoting the industry friendly to older adults by developing.

Performance Analysis of Implementation on Image Processing Algorithm for Multi-Access Memory System Including 16 Processing Elements (16개의 처리기를 가진 다중접근기억장치를 위한 영상처리 알고리즘의 구현에 대한 성능평가)

  • Improving the speed of image processing is in great demand according to spread of high quality visual media or massive image applications such as 3D TV or movies, AR(Augmented reality). SIMD computer attached to a host computer can accelerate various image processing and massive data operations. MAMS is a multi-access memory system which is, along with multiple processing elements(PEs), adequate for establishing a high performance pipelined SIMD machine. MAMS supports simultaneous access to pq data elements within a horizontal, a vertical, or a block subarray with a constant interval in an arbitrary position in an $M{\times}N$ array of data elements, where the number of memory modules(MMs), m, is a prime number greater than pq. MAMS-PP4 is the first realization of the MAMS architecture, which consists of four PEs in a single chip and five MMs. This paper presents implementation of image processing algorithms and performance analysis for MAMS-PP16 which consists of 16 PEs with 17 MMs in an extension or the prior work, MAMS-PP4. The newly designed MAMS-PP16 has a 64 bit instruction format and application specific instruction set. The author develops a simulator of the MAMS-PP16 system, which implemented algorithms can be executed on. Performance analysis has done with this simulator executing implemented algorithms of processing images. The result of performance analysis verifies consistent response of MAMS-PP16 through the pyramid operation in image processing algorithms comparing with a Pentium-based serial processor. Executing the pyramid operation in MAMS-PP16 results in consistent response of processing time while randomly response time in a serial processor.
