In order to evaluate primary clarifier performance on TSS(Total Suspended solids) removal, four different sampling sets were collected as part of this study; (1) weekly test, (2) the diurnal sampling, (3) the settling velocity distribution sampling. Primary effluent TSS($TSS_{PE}$) and non settleable TSS($TSS_{NON}$) concentrations were averaged 160 and 75.5 mg/L, respectively. These data suggest approximately 85 mg/L TSS can be removed more. Average $TSS_{NON}$, $TSS_{PE}$, and Dispersed TSS(DTSS) concentrations(75.5, 160, and 104 mg/L, respectively) suggest that 28.5 mg/L of TSS difference attributable to poor flocculation, whereas 56 mg/L of TSS difference attributable to poor hydraulics within primary clarifier. In this study, equations for maximum TSS removal efficiency and effluent TSS concentration were suggested and compared with experimented data.

Non-point source pollution associated with suspended solids in stormwater has been known to often adversely affect surface water ecosystems. Various methods of treating stormwater in the basin area before the stormwater reaches the receiving body of water have been developed. However, these treatment methods tend to be costly to install and also to maintain. In this study, an economical way of removing TSS (total suspended solids) from stormwater runoff with a fabric filter system was developed. Polyester was chosen as a fabric-filter material, because it was found to be economical in cost and relatively resistant to various chemicals. An experimental device was developed and used to determine filtration rates through polyester fabric samples of a series of several pore-opening sizes ($20{\mu}m$ to $94{\mu}m$) under a series of water-heads (0.25 to 1 m). It was found that the filtration rate increased as the size of water head increased. It was also found that the smaller the pore size of the fiber filter was, the higher the TSS removal efficiency was. However, the TSS removal efficiency was not found to be much different among the filters with different sizes of pore opening due to the fact that most mass of TSS was associated with large particles.

Recently, as a variety of techniques of CMF (Compressed media filter) that has advantages of high porosity and compressibility have been developed in the U.S. and Japan. Therefore, the interest of intensive wastewater treatment using CMF has grown. This study examined the feasibility of CMF with varying sewage water quality to determine the optimum operating conditions. A preliminary tracer test that investigated the filtering process under various compression and flow rate conditions was performed. In a high compression condition, different porosities were applied to each depth of the column. Therefore, a distinct difference between a theoretical value and results of tracer test was observed. For the TSS (Total suspended solid) removal and particle size distribution of CMF for pre-treatment water under the various compression conditions, the compression ratio of 30 percent as the optimal condition showed greater than 70% removal efficiency. In addition, the compression ratio of >15% was required to remove small-sized particles. Also, an additional process such as coagulation is necessary to increase the removal efficiency for < $10{\mu}m$ particles, since these small particles significantly influence the effluent concentration. Modeling results showed that as the compression rate was increased, TSS removal efficiency in accordance with each particle size in the initial filtration was noticeably observed. The modeling results according to the depth of column targeting $10{\mu}m$ particles having the largest percentage in particle size distribution showed that 150-300 mm in filter media layer was the most active with respect to the filtering.
A continuous foam separator has been used to remove TSS, $NH_3\;and\;NO_2^-$ from the recirculating water in aquaculture. Experimental runs were carried out to determine the foam separation variables, such as, hydraulic retention time, superficial air velocity and foam .height. The removal efficiency of TSS, $NH_3\;and\;NO_2^-$ was increased with hydraulic retention time and superficial air velocity, and removal efficiency of $NH_3$ was increased steadily with foam height. As DO concentration was increased with superficial air velocity and foam height, foam separator is also used for oxygen addition. It was concluded that foam separator might offer better perspective for removal of harmful components in fish culture water.
This study was conducted to understand factors affecting TSS and heavy metals transport on the road, parking lot and roof. During storm events, heavy metals, which were mostly attached to TSS, were also transported when TSS was washed off in the road, parking lot and roof. This finding may be supported by the significant correlations between TSS load and total and soluble heavy metals load including Cr, Fe, Cu, and Pb (Pearson r value: 0.52 to 0.73; probability p value<0.01). Generation and transport of TSS and heavy metals were greater in the road and parking lot compared to the roof due to vehicular activities, slope and greater catchment areas of these sites. It was found that TSS transport during peak flows of storm events ranges from 65% to 75% implying that by controlling peak flows, TSS transportation to nearby water bodies may be decreased. Depending on the target TSS and heavy metal reduction, sizing of low impact development (LID) technologies and green infrastructures (GI) such as infiltration trench, tree box filter, and rain garden may be calculated. Future researchers were recommended to assess the limitations of the systems and determine the design considerations for these types of facilities.

The purpose of this study is to assess the applicability of device-type stream coagulation process which combines physiochemical, biological processing for efficient improvement of water quality in small, middle-sized urban streams. The stream purification facility of this study is compose of pressure flotation type Micro Bubble Process(MBP) to remove TSS and TP and conduit line type Attached Microbial Pipe System(AMPS) to remove BOD. Test conditions of each device were set by floating stay time and change of ultra fine bubble injection amount of MBP, and change of AMPS stay time. Also, removal efficiency of pollution sources of each process were assess by change of season. As result of continuous operation of each process, MBP showed a maximum of TSS 83.69%, TP 95.15% process efficiency and AMPS showed a maximum of 52.95% TBOD5 removal efficiency. Also as result of circular operation of each process, MBP showed a maximum of TSS 69.75%, TP 70.17% process efficiency and AMPS showed a maximum of 68.58% TBOD5 removal efficiency. Therefore, it is considered that this stream coagulation process is effective in improving the water quality of streams in urban areas.

The motion comensated video coding technology is very improtant to compress video signal since it reduces the temporal redundancies in successive frames. But the computational complexity of the motion estimation(ME) is too enormous to use in the area of real-time and/or resolution video processing applications. To reduce the complexity of ME, fast search algoritjms and hardware design methods are developed. Especially, the three step search(TSS) is well known method which shows stable performance in various video sequences. And other variations of TSS are developed to get better performance andto reduce the complexity. In this paepr, we present the modified TSS using neighboring block's motion vectors to determine first step motion vector in TSS. The presented method uses the correlation of the adjacent blocks with same motion field. The simualtion resutls show that it has a good MAE performance and low complexity comparing with original TSS.
Due to climate change, coastal areas are being flooded with torrential rain, typhoons, and tsunamis. In addition, non-point source pollutants (NPSs) that accumulated on the ground, streets, and buildings during the dry season are washed off by rain and stormwater runoff, which adds to the damage associated with environmental pollution, e.g., pollution that makes its way into the ocean. Recently, low impact development (LID) has been considered as a means of controlling water circulation and NPSs. In the coastal area, permeable blocks have been constructed mainly to reduce the flood damage caused by waves. Some important design factors that must be considered to ensure long-term performance are the permeability coefficient, clogging, and the efficiency of the removal of total suspended solids (TSS), but currently there are no standardized design criteria or testing techniques that are used worldwide. Herein, we analyzed the permeability coefficient and the TSS removal efficiency tendency according to the permeability area ratio with an easily-detachable, permeable block filled with calcinated yellow soils as the filter media. Our lab-scale tests indicated that, when the permeability area ratio was 25%, the reduction of the permeability coefficient after clogged was 11%, which was a significant decrease compared to other cases. Permeability persistence increased when the permeability area ratio increased from 50% to 75%. The TSS removal efficiency decreased as the permeability area ratio increased. Our pilot-scale test indicated that the TSS removal efficiency was more than 80% higher in all cases. We also found that the permeability persistence was excellent as the permeability area ratio increased, and, in actual construction, it is effective to set 5.3% of the total area as permeable area in terms of permeability and economic feasibility.

Constructed wetlands (CWs) are effective technologies for urban wastewater management, utilizing natural physico-chemical and biological processes to remove pollutants. This study employed a bibliometric analysis approach to investigate the progress and future research trends in the field of CWs. A comprehensive review of 100 most-recently published and open-access articles was performed to analyze the performance of CWs in treating wastewater. Spain, China, Italy, and the United States were among the most productive countries in terms of the number of published papers. The most frequently used keywords in publications include water quality (n=19), phytoremediation (n=13), stormwater (n=11), and phosphorus (n=11), suggesting that the efficiency of CWs in improving water quality and removal of nutrients were widely investigated. Among the different types of CWs reviewed, hybrid CWs exhibited the highest removal efficiencies for BOD (88.67%) and TSS (95.67%), whereas VSSF, and HSSF systems also showed high TSS removal efficiencies (83.25%, and 78.83% respectively). VSSF wetland displayed the highest COD removal efficiency (71.82%). Generally, physical processes (e.g., sedimentation, filtration, adsorption) and biological mechanisms (i.e., biodegradation) contributed to the high removal efficiency of TSS, BOD, and COD in CW systems. The hybrid CW system demonstrated highest TN removal efficiency (60.78%) by integrating multiple treatment processes, including aerobic and anaerobic conditions, various vegetation types, and different media configurations, which enhanced microbial activity and allowed for comprehensive nitrogen compound removal. The FWS system showed the highest TP removal efficiency (54.50%) due to combined process of settling sediment-bound phosphorus and plant uptake. Phragmites, Cyperus, Iris, and Typha were commonly used in CWs due to their superior phytoremediation capabilities. The study emphasized the potential of CWs as sustainable alternatives for wastewater management, particularly in urban areas.

This study sought to establish the optimum operating condition for the recovery of caustic (NaOH) solution from mercerization in textile process. As main factors, the silt density index (SDI) evaluation of ceramic membrane for the application of nanofiltration/reverse osmosis (NF/RO) membrane, the recovery yield measurement of caustic solution for the application of polymeric membrane, the optimum condition of chemical cleaning for the membrane regeneration, the optimum removal condition of total organic carbon (TOC), turbidity, color, and the permeate flux of ceramic membrane/polymeric membrane combined process were investigated. As results, ceramic ultrafiltration (UF) in the first step and nanofiltration (NF) in the second step were found to be suitable for the removal of total suspended solid (TSS), residual organics, turbidity including color, and the recovery of caustic solution from caustic wastewater stream in mercerization process. When only the ceramic UF membrane was used, the rejection efficiency of both of TSS and turbidity was more than 99.0%, and the color and TOC were rejected about 74.7% and 49.2%, respectively. Meanwhile, the combined membrane precess of UF and NF membranes showed even more efficient removal abilities and thus more than 99.9% of TSS and turbidity, 87.7% of color, and 78.2% of TOC were removed. In particular, 91.3% of NaOH was successfully recovered with 83.7% of total volume in the combined membrane process. With this regard, a clean caustic solution was obtained in a high purity, which can be reused for mercerization process, expecting to offer economical benefits.
