  • 요즘 아날로그 방송에서 디지털 방송시대로 변화함에 따라 디지털 방송기술이 많이 발전되었다. 디지털 방송은 방송국으로부터 만들어지는 영상, 음성, 데이터 스트림들이 MPEG을 통해 효율적으로 압축하고 동기식으로 패킷화되어서 MPEG TS 패킷형식으로 서비스 이용자에게 위성 또는 지상파를 통해 전송되어진다. 방송되어지는 데이터 정보는 물론 그 외의 비관련 데이터도 제공되어짐으로써 서비스 이용범위도 많이 늘어나고 특히 기존의 영상과 음성위주의 방송과는 달리 사업자와 이용자간의 쌍방향으로 데이터를 송수신할 수 있는 기술이 고부가가치 사업으로 대두되고 있다. 디지털 방송을 수신해서 보기 위해서는 튜너로부터 수신되어 디지털화된 MPEG TS 패킷들을 분류해주는 과정이 필요하다. 본 연구에서는 실제 디지털 방송되었던 패킷 파일을 가지고 분류하였다. 영상 스트림과 음성 스트림을 분류하고 데이터 스트림을 분리하였다. 그리고 데이터 방송 규격의 데이터 스트림 파일을 별도로 입력하여 데이터를 분류하였다. 프로그램은 Microsoft visual c++6.0을 사용하여 구현하였다.

  • 본 논문은 PID 필터링된 MPEG-2 TS 데이터로부터 DSM-CC PS 패킷을 추출하여 원래의 섹션으로 구성한 후 이더넷 프레임으로 재구성하는 모듈에 전송하는 패킷변환모듈을 위한 하드웨어 모듈 설계를 제안한다. 제안된 모듈은 ALTERA 사의 IP를 토대로 수정하고 보완한 것으로써 하드웨어 기술언어인 Verilog를 이용하여 설계하였으며 모의실험을 통해 결과를 검증하였다.

Elimination of Discontinuity Phenomenon for Repeated Play of Finite DTV Stream (유한 DTV 스트림의 반복 재생시 불연속 현상 제거)

  • In general, there is discontinuity phenomenon like a black screen and an irregular sound for repeated play of a finite digital stream. In this paper, for repeated play we analyze the relation between source and stream time causes this phenomenon. We obtain the time relation between video frame rate, audio frame rate, and TS packet transmission rate to eliminate this phenomenon. Using this time relation, we propose a new generation method of elementary stream (ES) and transport stream (TS) to eliminate discontinuity phenomenon. The test results of the generate ES and TS using the proposed method show that the discontinuity phenomenon can be eliminated for repeated play of a finite proposed stream.

An Implementation of Digital TV Stream Analyzer (디지털 TV 스트림 분석기 구현)

  • In this paper, we describe a software implementation of a digital TV stream analyzer that can be used for analyzing and verifying digital TV bitstreams on personal computes. It accepts as input MPEG-2 transport streams (TS's) already stored on hard disks and doesn't require any special hardware. After classifying TS packets into program specific information(PSI) TS section auido, video, program clock reference (PCR) private data and null packets, it displays their contents through a graphic user interface along with the syntax elements of the TS header. Also it displays the decoded I frame nearest in time axis the TS packet currently shown This feature helps pin pointing the specific location of problematic parts in bitstreams. The bitsteam analyzer provides the compliance test of MPEG-2 Systems standard and the data injection functionality with which one can easily insert additional data to existing MPEG-2 bitstreams. Using the resulting system one can produce at low test streams for interactive broadcasting and data broadcasting for laboratory use.

  • In this paper, a method of MPEG-2 Transport Stream (TS) multiplexing for Ultra HDTV (UHDTV) and its design and implementation as a SW tool is described. In practice, UHD video may be divided into several HD videos and each video is encoded in parallel. Therefore, it is necessary to synchronize and multiplex multiple bitstreams encoding each HD video for transmitting and storing UHD video. In this paper, it is assumed that 4 HD videos partitioning a UHD spatially are encoded as H.264/AVC and two 5.0 channel audios are encoded by AC-3. Therefore, 4 H.264/AVC elementary streams (ESs) and 2 AC-3 ESs is mainly considered in the TS multiplexing of UHD. For the carriage of H.264/AVC and AC-3 over MPEG-2 TS, PES packetization and TS multiplexing are designed and implemented based on the extended specification of the MPEG-2 Systems and ATSC (Digital audio compressed standard), respectively. The implemented UHD TS multiplexing tool emulates real time HW operation in the time unit corresponding to the duration of one TS packet transmission in a given TS rate. In particular, in order to satisfy the timing model, the buffers defined in the TS System Target Decoder (T-STD) are monitored and their statuses are considered in the scheduling of TS multiplexing. For UHD multiplexing, two kinds of multiplexing structures, which are UHD re-multiplexing and UHD program multiplexing, are implemented and their strength and weakness are investigated. The developed UHD TS multiplexing tool is tested and verified in terms of the syntax and semantics conformance and functionalities by using a commercial analyzer and real-time presentation tools.

Seamless Recording Algorithm Using MPEG System and Service Information in Mobile Broadcasting (MPEG 시스템 및 서비스 정보를 이용한 끊김 없는 모바일 방송 녹화 방법)

  • In the general recording method of mobile broadcasting, all incoming broadcasting streams after recording time will be saved regardless of its content. In this case, as such that viewers do not want to record, commercial advertisement, are saved together. In order to solve these problems, the proposed method checks if the contents such as advertisements are exist in the target stream by analysing the splicing in incoming MPEG-2 TS streams and, if splicing happened, excludes incoming stream after the splicing in the recording process. In the proposed method, first the splice in the recording stream is verified using the related flags of adaptation field in the TS packet and, if judged to cause a splice, the time of splicing is to be estimated by evaluating the value of splice_countdown filed. In this way, the proposed algorithm provides the seamless recording method by estimating the time of splice and excluding the contents after the splicing. To evaluate the proposed seamless recording method, the simulation was carried out by modifying the software of the existing mobile broadcasting terminal.

  • Korea has launched the world-wide first terrestrial UHD broadcast services on May 31, 2017. While the existing HDTV broadcast services use MPEG-2 TS (Tranport Stream) standard for multiplexing and delivering compressed media with additional data, the terrestrial UHD broadcast services use MMT (MPEG Media Transport) standard, which is the next-generation standard beyond MPEG-2 TS. However, the production cost of UHD contents is so high that only a part of the total broadcast time is filled with UHD contents and the UHD time portion is planned to be gradually increased. On the other hand, the ATSC 3.0 standard that uses MMT is not yet used in full-fledged broadcast services in North America. Hence MMT broadcast equipment is still at an early stage with high prices. In this paper we implemented a multi-thread software running on an ordinary PC that can be utilized to realize a low-cost converter that converts the output of an existing MPEG-2 TS multiplexer to an MMTP (MMT Protocol) packet stream. We also verified the functionality of the software through experiments.

  • As content serviced for IP set-top boxes is streamed over IP network, the existing hacking tools for IP network can be used to capture the streamed content. Until recently, most of the content serviced on IP set-top boxes has been MPEG-2 TS. However, this content will be gradually moved to WMV, MPEG-4 or H.264 because of the relatively low compression efficiency and overhead of the TS packet. In this paper, we propose a DRM scheme other than WMRM for streamed WMV content. Our approach is to design a DRM scheme independent to the existing WMV streaming system. We also design this scheme in order to provide the feature for controlling the DRM processing time considering device performance. We verified it through the experiment.

Design and Implementation of Network-Adaptive High Definition MPEG-2 Streaming employing frame-based Prioritized Packetization (프레임 기반의 우선순위화를 적용한 네트워크 적응형 HD MPEG-2 스트리밍의 설계 및 구현)

  • As the networked media technology have been grown in recent, there have been many research works to deliver high-quality video such as HDV and HDTV over the Internet. To realize high-quality media service over the Internet, however, the network adaptive streaming scheme is required to adopt to the dynamic fluctuation of underlying networks. In this paper, we design and implement the network-adaptive HD(high definition) MPEG-2 streaming system employing the frame-based prioritized packetization. Delivered video is inputted from the JVC HDV camera to the streaming sewer in real-time. It has a bit-rate of 19.2 Mbps and is multiplexed to the MPEG-2 TS (MPEG-2 MP@HL). For the monitoring of network status, the packet loss rate and the average jitter are measured by using parsing of RTP packet header in the streaming client and they are sent to the streaming server periodically The network adaptation manager in the streaming server estimates the current network status from feedback packets and adaptively adjusts the sending rate by frame dropping. For this, we propose the real-time parsing and the frame-based prioritized packetization of the TS packet. The proposed system is implemented in software and evaluated over the LAN testbed. The experimental results show that the proposed system can enhance the end-to-end QoS of HD video streaming over the best-effort network.

A study of STB software development for streaming synchronized data processing (스트리밍 동기화 데이터 처리를 위한 단말 소프트웨어 개발에 관한 연구)

  • Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) -A/90, which is a standard for terrestrial data transmission in Korea, defines synchronized data that has a strong timing association with a separate Program Element. It is classified as synchronized streaming data that is carried in packetized elementary stream (PES) packets or a synchronized non-streaming data that shall be carried in digital storage media command and control (DSM-CC) section. In this paper, we study the design and verification of synchronized streaming data processing algorithm based on ATSC -A/90. We designed a parser and a player for the algorithm development. The received PES packet including synchronized streaming data is parsed in the parser. The parsed synchronized streaming data is synchronized and displayed by player. Finally, we ascertained that STB was working properly with MPEG-2 transport stream (TS) containing synchronized streaming data, as the proposed algorithm is implemented on a set-top box.
