  • Twelve Italian ryegrass (Lolium mult~flomm L.) cultivars have recommended as the government recommended forage cultivars since 1984, however, the forage performance and quality have been mostly tested at two locations, such as Suweon and Sunghwan in the Middle Northwestern and Middle Southwestern Coast Regions, respectively. Therefore, the objective of this experiment was to retest the forage performance and quality of already recommended twelve government Italian ryegrass cultivars at five scattered locations, such as Icheon, Suweon, Sunghwan, Keon- and Kwangju from 1992 to 1995 with the intention of improving recommendations to dairy farmers. Cultivars with more dry matter yield than the control 'Tetrone' were 'Tosca' , 'Bartissimo' , 'Florida 80' and 'Gordo' in the Middle Northwestern Coast Region ; 'Tosca' , 'Florida 80' , 'Bartissimo' , 'Wencke' and 'Gordo' in the Middle Southwestern Coast Region ; 'Tosca' , 'Florida 80' , 'Sikem' , 'Bartissimo' , 'Wencke' and 'Gordo' in the Keongbuk Inland Region; 'Florida 80', 'Tosca' , 'Barmultra' and 'Bartissimo' in the Southern Inland Region and 'Florida 80' , 'Gordo' , 'Sikem' , 'Bartissimo' and 'Tosca' in the Southern Coast Region. At all the locations in 1992-95, 'Florida 80' produced the highest forage yield and showed earliness, but this cultivar was less cold tolerant in the Middle Northwestern and Middle Southwestern Coast Regions and grew tall which made it vulnerable to lodging in all the exprimental regions except the Southern Coast. Differences among the ryegrass cultivars for the three year mean ADF and NDF were small and inconsistent.

  • Korea Institute of Radiological & Medical Sciences (KIRAMS) has been developing a K120 superconducting cyclotron. We have designed the magnetic field of a K120 superconducting cyclotron. Two pairs of superconducting NbTi coils have been introduced to accelerate variable ions ($0.125{\leq}Z/A{\leq}0.5$). The spiral sector has been designed for stable beam acceleration. The basic design parameters of the magnet geometries are calculated by analytic equations. The magnetic fields and the geometries are simulated by TOSCA and are verified by GENSPEO. We use Carbon ions during the design process as the criteria. The main parameters and properties of the K120 superconducting magnet are presented.

  • We report on the applicability oj a method recently developed in our laboratory for measuring the antioxidant potential of isolated chemicals and extracts derived from natural products. Peroxyl radicals generated by thermal homolysis of 2,2'-azobis-amidinopropane (ABAP) oxidize $\alpha$-keto-${\gamma}$-methiolbutyric acid (KMBA) to ethylene, which is monitored by gas chromatography. Inhibition of ethylene formation in the presence of antioxidants that compete with KMBA for peroxyl radicals is the basis of the Total Oxyradical Scavenging Capacity Assay (TOSCA; Winston et al., 1998). Antioxidative activities of water-soluble extracts of American green tea, the anti-hepatotoxic flavonolignan from milk thistle (Silybum marianum) silybin, Ginkgo biloba extract EGb 761, and a series of naturally occuring sesquiterpene lactones (all ger-macranolides found in in fungi, liverworts, and plants) were studied. The specific TOSC value per $\mu$M silybin was 5.2, which is essentially comparable to that of Trolo $x^{ⓡ}$, a water-soluble vitamine E analog. Tea and Ginkgo extracts exhibited potent peroxyl radical scavenging capacity with values, respectively of =1700 and 1000 $\mu$mols Trolo $x^{ⓡ}$ equivalent per gram dry matter. The known anti-inflammatory activity of some germacranolides prompted study of their antioxidant capacity. None of the lactones exhibited antioxidant capacity toward peroxyl radicals comparable to Trolo $x^{ⓡ}$; costunilide, the most lipophilic, had a TOSC value = to glutathione. The potential role of peroxyl radicals in lipidperoxidation, other cellular damage, and var-ious disease states suggest a possible preventive role for silybin, green tea and Ginkgo biloba in oxidative stress caused by these free radical species.ecies.

  • This research aims to examine the differences in the christians' self-conscious feelings - shame and guilt-feeling etc. - according to their religious propensity. For this 711 christians were participated. First, we explored the relationship among demographic variables, religious propensity and self-conscious feelings, and then tested the differences in the self-conscious feelings according to 4 religious propensity - pro-religious, intrinsic-religious, extrinsic-religious and non-religious - groups. The result showed that intrinsic religious group is significantly higher in the guilt-feeling than extrinsic religious group, but there were no difference in shame. In conclusion, christian's intrinsic-religious, propensity seemed to relate to mature religious attitudes, but christian's extrinsic-religious propensity to immature attitudes. Finally the implications and limitations of the study, as well as suggestions for the further study were discussed.
