  • Objective: The additional arch length required for leveling (AALL) the curve of Spee (COS) can be estimated by subtracting the two-dimensional (2D) arch circumference, which is the projection of the three-dimensional (3D) arch circumference onto the occlusal plane, from the 3D arch circumference, which represents the arch length after leveling the COS. The purpose of this study was to determine whether the cusp tips or proximal maximum convexities are more appropriate reference points for estimating the AALL. Methods: Sixteen model setups of the mandibular arch with COS depths ranging from 0 mm to 4.7 mm were constructed using digital simulation. Arch circumferences in 2D and 3D were measured from the cusp tips and proximal maximum convexities and used to calculate the AALL. The values obtained using the two reference points were compared with the paired t -test. Results: Although the 3D arch circumference should be constant regardless of the COS depth, it decreased by 3.8 mm in cusp tip measurements and by 0.4 mm in proximal maximum convexity measurements as the COS deepened to 4.7 mm. AALL values calculated using the cusp tips as reference points were significantly smaller than those calculated using the proximal maximum convexities (p = 0.002). Conclusions: The AALL is underestimated when the cusp tips are used as measurement reference points; the AALL can be measured more accurately using the proximal maximum convexities.

  • We herein present results of flat and uniform polymer-blended small molecular semiconductor thin films. Which were produced for organic thin film transistors (OTFTs), using a simple pre-metered horizontal dipping process. The organic semiconducting thin films were composed of 6,13-bis(triisopropylsilylethynyl)-pentacene (TIPS-PEN) composite blended with a polymer binder of poly(${\alpha}$-methylstyrene) (PaMS). We show that the pre-metered horizontal-dip-coating(H-dip-coating) process allowed the critical control of the thickness of the blended TIPS-PEN:PaMs thin film. The fabricated OTFTs using the TIPS-PEN:PaMs films exhibited maximum field-effect mobility of $0.22\;cm^2\;V^{-1}\;s^{-1}$. These results demonstrated that H-dip-coated TIPS-PEN:PaMS films show considerable promise for the production of reliable, reproducible, and high-performance OTFTs.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the degree of blocking of blue light of the tips and goggles of the curing light during the dental treatment using the blue light of the light curing. The light curing tips and goggles were placed on a UV-Vis spectrometer and the results of light transmission were analyzed. Comparative analysis. As a result, all four types of light curing tips used in the analysis showed excellent blue light blocking effect. In the case of safety goggles, red-type goggles showed blue light transmittance similar to those of light curing than yellow-type goggles. As a result, it is recommended that the attachment of the light curing with high degree of blue light blocking and the wearing of safety glasses are necessary to protect the eyes. This behavior is thought to reduce persistent irritation and fatigue in the eyes.

  • In order to survey anthraquinone productivity from in vitro root culture, transformed hairy roots of Rumex crispus were induced from leaf segments by infection with Agrobacterium rhizogenes strain $A_4$ and compared with adventitious roots. The optimum condition of adventitious root formation from leaf segments was 5 $\mu$M NAA added to MS medium. Mannopine was detected in the extract of hairy roots by paper electrophoresis, but not in adventitious roots. Secondary root tips of both adventitious roots and hairy roots elongated without lateral root branching in hormone free MS medium, but primary root tips showed more rapid growth with extensive lateral root branching. MS basal medium was the best for growth of the adventious roots and hairy roots for anthraquinone content. Adventitious root tips and hairy root tips cultured in liquid MS medium supplemented with 0.05 $\mu$M NAA and 0.1 $\mu$M kinetin (contained 5% sucrose) showed the maximal growth and anthraquinone content. Anthraquinone content of hairy roots was increased by the culture periods, but was reduced after 25 days of culture.

  • The effect of alachlor treatment on peroxidase synthesis in oat root tips was studied. Alachlor caused increase in the amount of soluble peroxidase in oat root tips, peroxidase activity increase as the rate of alachlor application increased, Alachlor treatment of oats with $1{\times}10^{-6}M$, peroxidase activity increased 0.20 unit higher than that of nontreatment. After 12hr, 65mM of peroxide treatment of oats inhibited 16% root growth, and 130 mM peroxide treatment caused 59% inhibition. With PAGE of peroxidase extracted from normal root tips, PAGE give 4 species($P_2$, $P_3$, $P_4$, and $P_5$ band) of peroxidase. Alachlor significantly activated isoperoxidase. Three isoperoxidase($P_1$, $P_6$, and $P_7$) are synthesized at a increased concentration of alachlor, SDS-PAGE analysis of proteins extracted from oat root tips showed that they were made up of subunits blow 100 kD polypeptide.

  • In this study, we prepared PVDF membranes via TIPS for water treatment applications. PVDF was used for its excellent chemical and mechanical properties. The effect of coagulation bath composition, temperature, and heat capacity on the overall membrane morphology was studied and observed using SEM. A mixture of DOP and DBP was used as the diluent, and silica was used as an additive. It was observed that as the heat capacity of the coagulation bath increased, the crystallization rate of PVDF decreased yielding larger pores. Also, as the heat capacity of the coagulation bath decreased, the crystallization rate of PVDF increased yielding smaller pores.

  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to measure the temperature of the plugger tip of 3 cordless heat carriers set at $200^{\circ}C$. Materials and Methods: Pluggers of the same taper (0.06, 0.08, 0.10) and similar tip sizes (sizes of 50 and 55) from 3 cordless heat carriers, namely SuperEndo-${\alpha}^2$(B & L Biotech), Friendo (DXM), and Dia-Pen (Diadent), were used and an electric heat carrier, System B (SybronEndo), was used as the control. The plugger tips were covered with customized copper sleeves, heated for 10 seconds, and the temperature was recorded with a computerized measurement system attached to a K-type thermometer at room temperature (n = 10). The data were analyzed with 2-way analysis of variance at a 5% level of significance. Results: The peak temperature of the plugger tips was significantly affected by the plugger taper and by the heat carrier brand (p < 0.05). The peak temperature of the plugger tips was between $177^{\circ}C$ and $325^{\circ}C$. The temperature peaked at $207^{\circ}C-231^{\circ}C$ for the 0.06 taper pluggers, $195^{\circ}C-313^{\circ}C$ for the 0.08 taper pluggers, and $177^{\circ}C-325^{\circ}C$ for the 0.10 taper pluggers. Only 5 of the 12 plugger tips showed a temperature of $200^{\circ}C{\pm}10^{\circ}C$. The time required to reach the highest temperature or $200^{\circ}C{\pm}10^{\circ}C$ was at least 4 seconds. Conclusion: When using cordless heat carriers, clinicians should pay attention to the temperature setting and to the activation time needed to reach the intended temperature of the pluggers.

  • This study investigated the effects of cryopreserving Chrysanthemum morifolium cv. 'White ND' shoot tips for eliminating viroids. As a result, smaller shoot tips (2-3 LP, 1mm) showed a better survival and regrowth than larger shoot tips (4-5 LP, 1.5mm). The most effective vitrification solution for survival and regrowth was PVS3, which induced a high survival rate after 60 minutes of incubation. For a high efficiency, the best pre-treatment condition for vitrification was incubation in 88 mM sucrose for 24 h, 0.3M sucrose for 16 h, 0.5 M sucrose for 6 h, and 0.7 M sucrose for 3 h, in a descending order. The ploidy levels were the same in the mother plants and following cryopreservation, which confirmed the absence of any gene mutation.

  • Carbon tips were grown on Si cantilevers by applying an electron beam to them directly with Scanning Electron Microscope. A carbon tip was fabricated by aligning the electron beam directly down the vertical axis of Si cantilever and then irradiating a single spot on the cantilever for a proper time in the dominant atmosphere of residual gases generated by the oil of the diffusion pump. A number of control parameters for SEM, including exposure time, acceleration voltage, emission current, and beam probe current, were allowed to make various aspect ratio feature. The growth of carbon tips was not affected by the surface morphology of substrates. We could acquired the tip whose effective length is 0.5 $\mu\textrm{m}$, bottom diameter is 90 nm and cone half angle $3.5^{\circ}$ The growth technique of the high aspect ratio carbon tips on the tip-free cantilevers is available to reduce the complexities of fabricating sub-micron scale tips on the PZT thin film actuator integrated AFM cantilevers.
